Miso Soup is one of the better Miso Soups that we have had, plenty of Miso and Tofu with a ton of flavor, will order again. Coffee was very good mild with no harsh bitter after taste. Missed: Karaage Chicken our order had been cooked awhile back, I am sure they do this to keep the orders coming out quickly, but would not order this again the that reason. First Date Place? Probably ideal casual atmosphere, not expensive other than the admission the the gardens, but we bought an annual pass to all three gardens at Golden Gate Park and got a good discount since my wife works at a school. Food: will be back for the miso soup and will try some other items on the menu. Value: clearly as the only place in the Japanese garden the could charge more, but thankfully their prices are very fair. The ordering process is efficient--you place your order, receive a number, and they bring the food to your table. The service is quick, and tables turn over relatively fast. I tried the popcorn chicken, which was just okay. It lacked flavor, and the chili seasoning wasn't strong enough to enhance the taste. The mochi ice cream was a bit pricey for what it is, but it was served on a beautiful wooden plate. The udon was the highlight of the meal. It was simple but flavorful, with a broth that tasted authentic, similar to what I've had in Japan. I wish I had ordered two bowls. The rice balls were filling but plain, without any filling inside. I really enjoyed the the Teahouse at the tea gardens. It was not overly crowded and there is ample shade to sit on warm days. They have a fun selection of foods and teas to choose from. I chose the Jasmine tea and green tea cheese cake. My husband and I really enjoyed them. I love the cute plates and cups too. We had a snack at the Tea House (the teahouse at the SF Japanese Tea Gardens) when we were exploring the gardens, and it was wonderful. We had the Genmaicha tea, the iced barley tea, the Goma (black sesame) dango, the Mitarashi (sweet soy sauce) dango, and the warabimochi. (Dango is a Japanese dumpling made from rice flours and steamed on a skewer. Warabimochi is a confection similar to mochi; and the Tea House's was coated in matcha powder.) There was quite a line, but it moved fast (since it's snacks and tea, people were getting up all the time, opening up seats in the tea house quite often as well). My boyfriend and I decided to spend this past Sunday at the Golden Gate Park. We stopped by the Japanese Tea Garden first as we've been meaning to go for a few weeks. The garden itself was beautiful and we were totally not expecting there to be a little tea house in the garden as well! It was a very pleasant surprise and we loved everything we ordered there. We had the udon noodles, miso soup, Mitarashi (sweet soy sauce) dango, and sencha tea. The udon noodles were really good and the Mitarashi dango were AMAZING! Best thing out of everything we ordered. It was so warm and pillow-y. The miso soup and sencha tea were pretty standard--the miso soup in particular was a bit on the lighter side, but not a problem for us. I would go back to the garden just to have their Mitarashi dango, to be honest. It's one of my new favorites in SF. Overall, Teahouse was a cute little establishment with yummy desserts and snacks that I would definitely stop by again. What an absolute delight! The Teahouse in the Japanese Tea Garden was the highlight of my visit there. It's right in the middle of the tea garden and is surrounded by all the trees and plants - you feel so removed from the outside world even with all the other people there. It's very tranquil and peaceful. The Teahouse itself is a very small and traditional looking building with a good amount of covered patio seating available. You order from someone at a window and then they bring your order out to you once it's ready and also hand you your tea from the window. I (of course) got some of the Sencha green tea and also got the tea house cookies. The green tea came in a beautiful tea pot and two cups so that I could serve it to both of us. Alongside that, we also ordered some of the chicken karaage, which was absolutely delicious, and a green tea cheesecake, which was very smooth and creamy. It was all so relaxing and created a perfect atmosphere as we sat on some of the stools that look out on the garden. The green tea was soothing and the assortment of cookies (including fortune cookies) were a great accompaniment. I loved my visit to the Japanese Tea Gardens, and the Teahouse there was definitely my favorite part of the experience. Despite being such a small shop within the park, all the food was made to order and brought to your table. A lot of seating available but try to get there early so you can get the front row seats with the best views. If you order the udon, they also provide a little spice shaker, definitely try it! The chicken kaarage was juicy and tender, I shared since we had a lot of food but I would totally order one for myself haha. And if you've never had mitarashi dango, I highly recommend! This place is so lovely! Ok, how can you resist a cute little Teahouse in the beautiful Japanese tea garden in wonderful Golden Gate Park? You can't really, it's extraordinarily picturesque. So naturally it's a perfect spot to grab a quick bite or cup of tea while looking at the architecture, bonsai trees and babbling waterfall of the gardens around you. You order at the counter, find a seat and get your food, and/or beverages delivered to your seat. I think generally it's busy during the winter, nice days, etc. but my boyfriend and I went on a rainy, foggy, Saturday in December and it was easy to order and get a seat at a communal table looking out to the garden. Our pot of Sencha tea was brought out quickly and was perfect for the two of us to share. We ordered a few things because we were hungry so we shared the Udon, miso soup, Chicken Karaage and pork bun. They have a variety of other little snacks so you can grab just a bite and some tea or eat a proper meal with dessert if you're hungry like us. The soups (miso and Udon) were probably our favorites of the bunch. Let's be honest you don't really go to this place for the food. The chicken karaage had flavor but didn't have a good texture, it was soggy and felt microwaved. The pork bun was fine. The Teahouse isn't very large and is nestled right in the center of the garden. It has a family style table in the middle. This place is so peaceful and offers beautiful views of the surrounding garden. In addition to tea, the Teahouse has a variety of light refreshments you can purchase to snack on. The Japanese Tea Garden was built in 1894 and is one of my favorite stops when I visit San Francisco. I highly recommend stopping in and getting some tea if you visit.
