We recently visited this location and we were originally attracted to it by the sign that said that they sold boba tea there. I was excited to give this place a try - but what others have said is true - there is an extremely pungent smell of (what I believe is) mold that's rampant throughout the room. I had to cover my nose while I was there because it was so overbearing. At the desk, there were an assortment of other pastries and bakery items that were out for display - but what I noticed was that one of the pastries had a massive amount of what I believed was mold growing on top of it. It was discolored gray and I couldn't help but stare at it. The lady that tended to us was kind enough, but I think it's just her tending the store. I didn't see anyone else there and she walked out to the back to make the tea drinks for us. Judging by the state of the front of the store - I was really curious to see the state of the store in the back. The tea I drank was okay. It didn't taste completely off, but it was generic. Sugary. The state of the location had just set me off so much I didn't feel comfortable continuing to consume it. Frankly, we sort of expected better. If nothing else, the very harsh smell needs to be removed. There were enough indicators there for me to suspect there's a lot of mold growing somewhere within that room. read more

Take your "tyme" and relax at this sweet tearoom! It's cute, but not as prim as some other tearoom I've been to. There are plastic covers on the chairs, which is practical yes, but takes away from the formality of a tearoom. A couple of the tables were wobbly, and I think they could use one or two smaller tables for twosomes and threesomes. The paper napkins were wrapped the utensils with a cute ribbon which was a nice touch for paper napkins. The main drawback: There was literally a little waste receptacle ON the table! Definitely not appropriate. There's a sort of creepy yet quirky robot that greets you at the front door. It evidently speaks different languages. She's cute though! Her name is Rose. The Victorian afternoon tea was nice, you know okay. I had the cucumber sandwiches (and added chicken salad sandwich for an upcharge) and the tea for $16.95 came with a mini cupcake, a mini scone and a mini cookie. The cuke sandwich was lightly toasted and fresh, the chix salad was on wheat and too mayonnaise-y for my taste. The sweets were delicious. You can choose your sandwich from several options, and your flavor of scone. Today the had raspberry white chocolate, orange cranberry, and blueberry. The Earl Grey cream tea was hot and fresh. Nicely steeped! The teapot and the tea accoutrements were all pretty! The server, Jamie, was sweet and helpful. The shop was also filled to the brim with gifts: jewelry, tea things, figurines, ornaments, candles, soaps and other knickknacks. While I was there the tearoom filled up quickly! Families and guys enjoyed their tea times. However, the ladies behind me were quite loud and rude playing videos loudly of their kids doing "cute" things. So gauche! So uncouth! Not tearoom manners at all! I wanted to take their phones! Ugh! Several customers walked in and ordered from the counter with a large selection of smoothies, boba tea, bubble tea, chai teas, milk teas, coffees, and milkshaplus a huge selection of regular teas: black, herbal, green and white teas. I'd come back, but don't expect the typical English tea experience. It's a bit more low key and casual. Unless you have a large party, you can just walk in without a reservation. I did come back! It was nice that on a Friday, they were open late and we were able to grab a bite! Service was slow on this day because I think only one person was minding the store! Going here at night felt really off putting but I decided to try my chances at giving this place a shot! Going inside, there's this weird animatronic girl that's tilting her head left and right; I don't know if that's there to greet you but I've seen enough of Five Nights of Freddy's to have a fear of animatronics. Honestly, the black sheep in the room has to be the decor. I thought I was walking into an antique shop. A lot of vintage stuff on cabinets and trinkets just left and right... I was honestly wondering why that was there. There were tables in the middle with menus for tea but I was a bit confused about what I was walking into. The counter in the back is where you order your bubble tea. They have surprisingly a lot of options but it's just disorganized. It took me a minute to figure out what I wanted. I got the Lychee Rose drink with Boba. The guy at the counter asked if I'd like to try out a scone and I said sure. It ended up being around 12 bucks which is a tad expensive but gotta support the place somehow.. The Lychee Rose with boba; the drink had no ice and the boba was hot. I don't think the drink is too sweet but I should have asked for some ice. I think I got a Blueberry Scone. That was okay too... It was heated up but it was dry and I felt like it was there the whole day at the counter.. I sat there for a bit in silence just sitting down at the tables to take photos but left once I finished my drink. Tea Tyme is an odd place. It has an antique sort of charm to it but it also wants to present itself as a bubble tea shop/high tea place. It's okay. It's not my pick for good boba but at least I checked it out. read more

Food was soooooo good!!!!! So I didn't know what to get but the guy who helped me went over the whole menu with me. I decided on a spicy beef ramen! It has all the bells and whistles. I learned about this place on my laundry day. Went in for a tea and got food and the Thai tea. Since last Monday I've been in 4 times! The guy was the only worker I think that I saw and he was very helpful. Food came out in about 15 mins. The place was clean and the guy who has helped me was very helpful. Due to COVID we've been trying to stay in as much as possible. However, I was in DESPERATE need of a Honeydew bubble tea! During these times we are also trying to shop local & shop small businesses! Tea Tyme popped up and I am SO HAPPY it did! The shop is small, but full of little decorations, figurines, tea and other things. A few tables inside, but we decided not to sit. The lady at the counter was just the sweetest ever! She was very patient as my husband decided what he was getting. My Honeydew bubble tea was perfect! Right amount of sweet and boba was perfectly prepared! It definitely satisfied my craving! My husband got a chocolate milkshake and it was good, but mines was better. Haha. Very interesting shop but I liked its quirkiness. It's sectioned off and separate from the coffee place next door. This might be the only boba or bubble tea place in downtown Fredericksburg. There's an assortment of flavors and combos you can get, and it looks like the owner has a variety of powdered flavors. I got sakura rose, a light cherry-rose flavor, but there are so many to chose from, as detailed in the huge signs in the front. You can get a regular size for $5.50 or in a plastic lightbulb for $6. The owner was very nice and let me smell the flavors before committing. She will probably give you a sample of anything if you just ask. There's only a small table in the middle of the shop you can sit at and no public restrooms so it looks like this a grab-and-go place. The random things they have for sale are in cabinets and range from jewelry and teacups to even Beanie Babies and goblets. They also sell a variety of loose leaf teas. Only one Asian lady working the shop, so she was a bit curt and not very helpful when I was asking if they had milk cream to add, what butterfly pea tea was, etc. Too bad, as I would have went more adventurous - which would mean I would have spent more money here. I got my go-to taro bubble tea with two extra scoops of tapioca pearls. The drink was good, but nothing to write home about. The bobas had not taste at all - literally, which was disappointing, and they should (in my book) add a sublet sweetness for another flavor in the all-round taste profile. I did notice a mother and daughter sitting at another table enjoying afternoon tea - which their were many flavors and kinds of leaves to pick from; any place that serves their teas in proper eat sets automatically gets an extra star from me. read more

Stumbled upon this place while strolling through downtown Fredericksburg. It's decor is a bit dated but they offer afternoon tea service for very reasonable pricing. We only ordered bubble teas to go but we saw a small group having afternoon tea and it looked lovely. Our bubble teas were good. I ordered taro and my friends ordered regular milk tea without the sweetener. They were prompted to select a black tea from the shops loose leaf collection for their base which I thought was nice. I honestly cannot explain how anyone would give this establishment a five star rating! If you lived in Fredericksburg long enough, you probably had the pleasure of going to Pinkadilly Tea on Caroline Street or the former Tea Thyme and What Not. This absolutely was a horrible experience for my three year old granddaughter's first tea. We went for afternoon tea - not Bubble Tea! Upon entry I escorted my elderly mother-in-law who has mobility issues into the store. The carpet was in horrible shape and she nearly tripped coming up the ramp. To say there were knickknacks in this place was generous. It was simply junk and very large heavy furniture everywhere! And junk with very expensive price tags! We had made reservations for four which included a three year old. The tables had awful ripped vinyl covers which sat beneath glass tops. The chairs were so flimsy they nearly tipped over when we sat down. We were the only people in the place for our appointment at 11 o'clock. But as the owner was the only one in the place, service was quite slow and at least one customer walked out after waiting about 10 minutes for service at the counter. We ordered our tea but only had sugar on the table. Who goes to a ROYAL TEA and isn't offered cream, lemon and honey? No clotted cream or lemon curd, either! The food we ordered was horrible and nothing like what we were used to at Pinkadilly. The salads looked like they were dumped out of a bag that they bought at the grocery store and the scones were cut in small pieces and spread out to look like they had more food on the tiered tray. The sandwiches were quartered (which is fine) and toasted. Really? Who toasts finger sandwiches? Maybe the bread was stale. Most of the desserts if not all were store-bought out of a box, bag or tin. Bright fluorescent lighting and a local radio station playing in the background didn't help set any type of mood for afternoon tea. By the way, none of this was cheap! I think possibly the worst part of the experience was the dust, filth, and disorganization and clutter in the place. There were boxes of bubble tea everywhere and more junk that I did not care to look at while I was trying to have tea. I think you should also read some of the owners' responses on Google reviews to understand they are not in business to satisfy their customers. Definitely will not be returning! read more

Best place to go for bubble tea. They also sell loose tea. The bubble teas are yummy. They have so many flavors both of the tea and bubbles. They had several flavors of scones but I didn't try those. It is downtown Fredericksburg so parking can be challenging. They have late hours. read more

For a friend's birthday, we booked a table for 4 and thoroughly enjoyed the Royal Tea. Huge choice of teas, lovely sandwiches made to order, fresh scones and pastries and fresh fruit. All beautifully presented on a tiered stand. And great value! We're British and are suspicious and picky when we see "afternoon tea" advertised, but this did not disappoint at all. Service was great. The bubble tea prices are very overpriced. There's a significant price difference if you pay with cash versus card. They clerk didn't advertise this at all, and quite frankly I don't understand why I was made to pay $2 more just because I paid with a card. It's all money. It also tasted very bitter and the clerk wasn't very friendly. They make the tea behind a wall, so you can see what they put in it. That was concerning to me, because every other bubble tea place I've been to, they make the tea in front of you. The area where this store is located is very beautiful, so I recommend you go and visit the other stores. I, personally will not be going back to Tea Tyme. read more

Fun, kid-friendly experience. My daughters and I had the tea service. They had a lengthy menu of teas ranging from the exotic to the kitschy seasonal. The tea sandwiches represented slightly tweaked takes on traditional offerings, such as the ham and cheese with apricot dijon mustard (I did not know it existed in advance of this). The sweets ranged from baklava to scones with a good deal in between and the tower was topped with decorative fruit. If I had a criticism it would be that the scones aren't the more traditional you would expect at a British tea service, with clotted cream and the like, but they were still tasty. This place was wonderful. I'm a huge fan of bubble tea, so it caught my eye as I was walking through downtown Fredericksburg. It has a nice vibe, and I like viewing the antique items. It felt pretty cozy, and there seemed to be one worker making the items and taking orders. It didn't seem like a long wait, and I admire her great service and hard work. The bubble tea was absolutely delicious, and I noticed there wasn't an overabundance of ice filling the cup as I have seen in other places. Plus, to top it all off, the cups lids are shaped as cats!
