The service was very friendly and the overall vibe felt very sanitary and welcoming. The reason for my lower rating would be the overall quality of my gel nails. I came in for a basic gel manicure appointment looking for a solid color - no frills. Unfortunately, there aren't as many colors to select from which made my choice limiting to start with. The main disappointment however was that my nail polish started chipping less than a week in. Typically my gel manicure will last a week+, but within a few days I had already chipped nail polish/kt coming off. To make matters worse, I was out of town for a wedding so I couldn't even go back to the salon for a fix. Within a week, the polish had peeled off several nails. I likely won't be returning here though I want to emphasize how friendly everyone was - not always my experience at nail salons salons, so I appreciated it here. read more

When my favorite nail tech from Lisa's Nails moved to a new salon, I was looking for another spot to try close to home, so I gave Tea Nails another shot. I had a mani/pedi and found the final polish job to be OK -- my nails weren't painted super well by my cuticle, but I was chip-free for a week, which was a win, and the tech spent a long time cleaning up my hands and feet and they had all the nice products -- cuticle oils, hand lotion, etc. The salon itself is beautiful and spacious and clean, and the polish selection is fantastic. The techs are very friendly, though they didn't like how short I keep my nails. The techs I usually go to could do my short nails just fine! The downsides are they are slow and the final polish job isn't top notch. I spent 2.25 hours there getting a dip manicure, and they couldn't get the top coat smooth (and cut my cuticle in the process of sanding down one nail). I booked it to Lisa's nails up the street and she fixed my nails with a quick base and top coat and I learned my lesson. Don't stray from Lisa's Nails!! read more

NO ACRYLIC SKILLS. Do not get a full set or a fill here!!!! The first time I went was three weeks ago on my birthday. I booked an appointment in the afternoon for a mani/pedi. The pictures on the website looked decent enough and the reviews were average. Now, I like acrylics medium length, not Cardi B long or anything. With my line of work long nails aren't required but encouraged as everyone has them. When I sit down, I tell the tech I wanted medium length. She kept saying that was "too long" and that I should get them shorter. I didn't budge. She tells me it's going to be an extra $10 because they are "so long". Okay, whatever. They really weren't that long. (see picture) She also kept pushing gel when I said repeatedly I wanted regular. Anyway, she does the nails, I drop $100+ and 25% tip. Fast forward three weeks and I'm ready for a fill. Again the lady that does them is complaining about the length and how I should cut them. No. Another person comes in and she gets up halfway finished to turn on the pedicure bath for them. She's clearly rushing at this point and paints them very quickly leaving huge streaks on the side where the second coat didn't take. The person in the pedicure chair has now been waiting for 20+ minutes and I'm feeling really guilty. Anyway, she finishes up, I go to dry. Bill comes to $30 I pay and leave a 25% tip again and I leave. Great. Not even 24 hours later, the first nail completely lifts. I glue it back on with some nail glue and tell myself I'll just go back and get it fixed no biggie. Then another one pops. Then another one. I got my fill Monday, this is Tuesday. Now Wednesday comes around and three more of the nails pop off. I'm really upset now. I call the salon and tell them what happened and that I'm really disappointed. They try to tell me to come in right then (I can't just drop everything and go immediately) but we finally settle on 4pm. She said she'd fix them free of charge. Great. Now I don't want to be a Karen or anything but a full set with fill is supposed to last up to 8-10 weeks. I had JUST gotten a fill on Monday. I was planning on going on vacation with my sister leaving Friday so this extra salon trip was really not in my schedule. The second I get in, the lady starts arguing with me citing the reason my nails all came off was that they were "too long". She said she would do them again but they need to be short otherwise they would just come off again. She then tells me I need to wait as the salon is packed. Cue another girl coming in. She shows the woman a reference picture on her phone and says she wants a full set. The woman straight up says to her that she wouldn't do that, that she has such good nails, and that she should do gel instead. The poor girl admitted this was her first time at a salon but that she really wanted a full set. Again, the woman said she should get gel. The girl caved and clearly was uncomfortable. So the woman calls me over (the same woman that did my fill and who spoke to the girl) and starts in on me again about the length. She said that she'd charge me another $20 to do a full set again. And she was refusing to do anything other than short. I kept saying I need them longer for work but she kept saying that they were too long and I must have been too hard on them for them to all pop off. She goes on about how a full set is $40 but she was willing to charge me $20 like this is some great deal and that she wasn't literally fixing her mistake. I'm now realizing they weren't confident in their acrylic skills and that's why she talked the girl out of it. I'm not about to drop ANOTHER $20+tip when I JUST spent $30+tip not TWO days prior. And I honestly didn't feel comfortable with her doing them again, short nonetheless. I cut my losses at this point and said I would just go somewhere else that would be able to do them longer She basically throws $20 at me and I leave. It just breaks my heart because I struggle a lot with depression/mental health issues so I rarely do anything for "self care" like this. I would have continued to go there for sets and fills had this been a positive experience but at least I know now. read more

I have now gone twice to this salon to get gel manicure and then a gel manicure and pedicure. Staff are always really friendly and kind and accommodating. I was able to schedule online with ease and when I had made an error they easily corrected it. I will happily keep coming back and love this little corner! My only confusion is around the discrepancy in cost (which is negligible but I like to plan what I'm spending). It ends up costing just a little more then I expected from the website sign up (about 5 dollars more each time - so online it said 30 for the gel manicure but I was charged 35 and for the mani/pedi online it said 60 and then I was charged 70) so I suspect the prices need to be edited on the website to properly reflect the cost. I am happy to pay that amount but would like to know ahead of time. Tip is cash only. read more

They make you sanitize the second you enter, take your temperature, and constantly have a plastic barrier between you and the technician. Everything is sanitized and clean. Good pedicure -- Got the middle priced pedicure and thought it was okay. My nails turned out great and it was a nice enough location, however I have a couple of notes -when I walked in I was immediately offered a water bottle, which I thought was nice -massage was meh - I planned on requesting she focus on my feet and I didn't even realize the massage had started she was doing it so lightly. By the time I realized that the massage had started it was nearly over. I thought she was just rubbing in the lotion really thoroughly. Oh well. - When you check in you select your service on a touch screen at the desk however the touch screen didn't have descriptions and there was no menu with descriptions either. I asked the gentleman at the desk what the differences in the three pedicures available were and I was told is that 1 is the most basic: soak, scrub, polish. 2 - all of 1 plus a massage. 3 - more stuff, he said it would take an hour and a half but didn't give more details. So hopefully those descriptions help you in your selection. I opted for the middle range pedicure and I thought it was reasonably priced at $30 but would have preferred a better massage. The polish turned out great though and the technician was meticulous. Overall I was comfortable, everything appeared to be sanitary and clean, and the location is so convenient to me that I'll likely return. 3.5 stars read more

First time customer review! I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! First off, the salon was very clean and they had a ton of color options. I was promptly greeted and offered a water which I thought was very thoughtful. They were a little behind schedule, but it was well worth the wait. My nails came out amazing! Filed perfectly and my technician took extra care with making sure there were no spots missed and that the polish was even. Also, it's a 5 minute drive from my office so that's definitely a plus. :) Unfortunately, they didn't have time to do a pedicure but I will be coming back on Thursday to get my toes done! read more

As the salon was empty, they sat me right away. The nail tech did an excellent job on my pedicure and all the staff were friendly. I thought this place had improved but I was wrong. I came here Friday for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. It is now Thursday not even a week and my nails are chipped. The girl that did my mani pedi felt so rushed when no one was waiting she over cut my toe nail and now it is so raw I can't even wear regular shoes even socks hurt me. I have never in my life got a gel that chipped in under a week. This place has a lot of color options, but that is the only thing going for them the service is terrible. This was my first time visiting Tea Nails. It is accessible via Bus 88 or 90. It's right across the street from CHA Somerville. I made an appointment because it was a Friday, and I wanted to make sure I was able to be taken care of straight away. The space is quite spacious and clean, and I was taken care of as soon as I walked in. Aiden/Aidan, the front desk was so so nice! He was very helpful and hospitable. He was very easy to speak to, especially when I had a request (which was fulfilled). His hospitality was greatly appreciated. Ivy was the woman who did my gel nails, and they came out beautiful. She was very attentive to details, making sure she cleaned my cuticles thoroughly and she got every corner of the nails. Thank you, Ivy, you won me ove I will be coming back again! read more

My experience with Tea Nails was frustrating. I booked a service online and received a confirmation via text. The owner called me at 7:30am the next morning to tell me to come 15-30 minutes later to accommodate other clients. Then, 15 minutes into my service, the owner told me she was going to give me something else because it would take too long and go into someone else's appointment time. She overbooked but didn't admit it or apologize or offer anything except that I pay for something I didn't want. I felt pressured to accept this because it wasn't the poor nail technician's fault, things had already started, and everyone was watching. read more

I really wish I could give 1 more star because they're super friendly, but my pedicure was messy and when I took a closer look I saw fingerprints on two of my nails. Her dog was in the salon. Cute dog!! But distracted, who I'm assuming was the owner, her every 2 minutes so she kept leaving me to get the dog back into the shop... so it took way longer to get my pedicure done. I love Tea Nails - unlike some salons, when you make an appointment (which you can do online), you actually get priority when you show up. They do great work, my gel manicures always last a full two weeks. They take their time and make sure the manicure doesn't get to close to the skin (which causes it to lift when your nails grow, making them peel off sooner), so be prepared that it will take a little longer than some salons that aren't as careful. Tipping is available by Venmo, the ladies are super friendly, and the place is very clean. Love them so much! read more

As a first time customer, this place was above and beyond my expectations. They were very attentive and caring throughout my pedicure (even with my tough feet from sports!). I have never felt so cared to or attended to with a nail service before. I work with my hands and feet a lot and am a big gal, so I've had a lot of poor interactions at salons where I felt judged or not cared for. At Tea Nails, I felt special and cared for, which is exactly what I needed. They immediately offered me a bottle of water and confirmed my name- they went the extra mile with my pedicure and did scrubs, massage, everything. My feet are not pretty, but Jessica made them pretty. I also love that they actually took the time to do it well- I had a lot of cuticle growth, and at other salons my nails have been ripped/cut because they were going so fast, but here they were so delicate and gentle, and my nails look better than ever before. She made sure I was okay as we went onto hands and she made me feel welcome. Yes he gentle music in the background was also lovely to hear and relax to. I had a horrible experience with Tea Nails! I have been getting acrylic nails at a different salon consistently for 2 years. My nail person ghosted me so I had to find a new place 2 weeks before my wedding! I went to Tea Nails to do both my trial nails and my wedding nails. I had so many problems. I am not just a disgruntled bride, these are legitimate issues! First, I had to settle on a different design because they said they could not do ombré French. I let this one go but was still disappointed. Second, scheduled my nail trial and wedding nails at the same time, as they were clearly mentioning my next appointment. But I called just to verify we were all set and they didn't put me in the appointments book. For my WEDDING!! It was so stressful and they kept me until like 8pm the night before I had to leave town for the wedding. See next comment. Third, Sally took FOREVER on my nails. It was just an acrylic refill and regular polish and it was over 2 hours, not including drying! No one has time for that. I was forgiving for the first appointment because I wasn't sure if I just made them nervous because this was for my wedding, but she was slow the second time too. My previous person did my nails in 35 minutes. Over 2 hours is just too slow. Fourth, they were out of silver gems for my ring finger but assured me they would order some for my wedding day nails and that they would be there when I came back in 2 weeks. When I called to verify my appointment, they nonchalantly said they couldn't order them. I was furious. I called Sally Beauty Salon down the street and that had nail gems. I had to go to Sally first, but my own gems, and bring them to my appointment. If I didn't call ahead of time, they would have completely screwed me over. AND, I think the correct response from them would have been to apologize for not going to get some from a different source and offer to buy them off me. But instead, they just shrugged and said the gems I bought were not as good of quality as the ones they normally buy. I was FURIOUS. Finally, what really pushed me over the edge, was that they not do the acrylic refills correctly. During my honeymoon, my nails started lifting and were literally popping off in whole pieces 5 days after my nail appointment. They ALL ended up popping off over the course of my honeymoon. I have never had such a bad experience with nails before, and to have it surrounding my wedding and honeymoon was even worse. This is the first time I've ever written a review on Yelp even though I rely on them. But the experience is worth sharing! I booked an appointment online for a gel nail fill and was excited since not many people do gel full set nails. Received confirmation through text and proceeded the next day to my appointment. 6pm, an hour before closing, only to find out I showed up on the wrong day. Ugh, I'm an idiot. Sally was so kind and offered to take me anyways! As we went through the process, I realized that there was some miscommunication in the system - they don't offer gel nail fills anymore (note: this is a gel nail and not gel color, it's a different bonding and similar to acrylic). Sally apologized no less than 10x and we figured out without going to acrylic how my nails could still look awesome. She was with me for just over an hour, you would never know the nails didn't get filled, and she was meticulous. She also refused to charge me full price even though she worked her butt off to make sure I was happy. They are clean and professional here and despite not offering the specific service I was looking for, I will 100% be going back. Thank you to Sally for being kind today when you didn't have to be. I was excited to find a local place. My first appointment was satisfying. Second time round was a different story: - I booked manicure and waxing. After finishing my manicure, the staff took me back to the waiting area and started giving another customer a pedicure. I think when you book two services in one nail saloon, the understanding is that you don't wait for 45 minutes in between. After waiting for awhile, I wanted to pay and leave at which point the same staff insisted that she can do my waxing right then-which I declined. -I paid via Venmo as they preferred and afterwards I received many calls from the store claiming that they did not receive my payment. I also received a comment to my Venmo payment: "Hun, where did you get your nails done?" I guess one account is used for various saloons. Neverthless, I like it better when I don't have to have multiple calls with a saloon on a Saturday night. -I paid extra for the long lasting color-which started to chip away next day. On day 2, 5 polish on 5 nails were half gone. Tried stopping by to see if they fix it , but they were closed at 5 pm on a day that their announced hours goes till 7. I am just leaving my second appointment here and I honestly wouldn't have come for a second one if they didn't cause my nails to be an embarrassment after my first appointment. Somehow I am even more disappointed now than I was the first time. I just moved to the area and found this place locally. I booked a pedicure and a FILL. They sat me in the pedicure chair and a woman came over with foils. I tried to tell her not to use them and showed her my OBVIOUS acrylic nails but she insisted. I figured she must know what she is doing and allowed it. Pedicure was fine. Went over to the chair for my nails and when she started to remove the foils I saw a disaster of gooey acrylic and she didn't know what to do. Her manager came over and it took over 2 hours for them to do damage control. Apparently they have no tools for acrylic and were not prepared for this. They broke one of my nails (my natural nails are very long) out of carelessness. The gel manicure they did over the damage looked ok, obviously not great but good enough considering what they looked like. This second visit today I came in for a gel manicure. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of my nails when they removed the polish and buffed them out. I chose black gel polish again, asked if they had rhinestones and specified clear. Apparently she ran out of clear so tried to put on colored gems upside down so the silver would show, to which I obviously told her to remove them. I pointed to two of my nails which had obvious blobs of gel and she told me that she knew and would fix it. What she did instead was try to "reshape" my nails to create an illusion that there was no blob. I had to ask her to match the shape of my nails and after fifteen minutes my ride came and I just surrendered. Every nail is a different shape completely. The blobs of gel are incredibly evident. There is no consistency. This was an absolute disaster and I am not even going to try to go back to them to fix it. I have never left a negative review on yelp before because I know how impactful they can be to a business and everyone has "off" days. This is just completely unacceptable. read more

I'm so disappointed with my experience at this local spot as I just moved to Somerville. I got a pedicure and had to switch pedicurists half way through because she was struggled so much. When filing my nails, she kept the file so low that the edge was rubbing hard on the skin beneath my nail. She told me to relax my foot and I explained she how she was hurting me. No change. When she "buffed my nails", she never touched the actual nail and instead just the skin around my toes. Clipping my cuticles: she cut me and I yelled out in pain. The woman who owned the place told her to just do the big toes instead, which the girl doing my toes repeated in English. What?! Then she started to work on my heals, which I really needed. She spent literally 15 seconds on my first foot and that's when I lost it. I looked at her and asked if that was it? The woman in charge switched her out with another woman. She spent another 10 mins fixing all the issues with my nails ( they were very uneven) and then went back and finished the pedicure. I walked away with paint on the bottom of my toes, and never had my toes properly buffed. You can see the ridge in the nails from my last pedicure. The whole process was a mess. I told the woman in charge, I felt bad, because the girl who started my pedicure was nice but she didn't do a good job, she replied "it's ok, she cuts people sometimes and we have to switch her out." (?!?!) No apology or discount offered. I will not go back there ever. read more

I came back for my first pedicure since the pandemic began and I was so thrilled with my experience! I called ahead and they could take me right away. Sallyn did my pedicure and she had the water running for me when I arrived. She made sure I used hand sanitizer when I entered and when I left. The salon is outfitted with plastic barriers between staff and customers and the staff were wearing masks. Sallyn did such a thorough job on my pedicure and took her time on a foot and calf massage. The owner Tea is a very sweet lady. All the ladies here are super nice & also the younger gentleman at the front desk, who I believe is her son & the older gentleman who often helps to find the polish in the back (her brother). They don't have a consistently good acrylic person at this place which sucks because I do like the ppl here & that is hard to find. When they just started out, they had a woman there named Lady who was from DR. She did my acrylics flawlessly. They lasted for 3 weeks, then I went back & she wasn't there, but my nails held up so good that I didn't even need a new set of nails because Lady had done such a great job applying them. The new lady completely butchered the job. She convinced me to try some annoying powder on my nails & this completely sucked. The application process was so tedious & I ended up being at the place for close to 5 hours getting my nails corrected over & over because they kept getting messed up. I went back again, I was going on vacation and needed some nice nails. Within 2 days of my vacation, 2 of my nails started to peal and one of them completely came off while I was in the shower. When I got back to the states, I went straight to the nail salon. Tea was very remorseful about what occurred but I was just so frustrated with the place. I told the girl to just remove all the nails, I didn't want anything fixed. Once she did, I left & haven't returned. Hopefully they now have a reliable acrylics person, who actually knows what they are doing & can get the shape & application right. Though I have had bad experiences with my nails everytime except for the first time I've come here, I am giving them 3 stars (though they deserve 2), just because of how nice the owner & her staff are.
