Today is Thursday, July 31, 2025, and my heart has definitely sunk! Yesterday (July 30, 2025), Tea Mug posted on their Instagram account ( https://www.instagram.com/teamugboba ) that after 4 years of being in business, they're saying farewell to all their customers, as they're permanently closing effective immediately. I shall miss them sooooo much!!! The owners were always the SWEETEST couple and soooo professional with their business! And I was always recommending their place to my friends, because where else in the ENTIRE Westside can you find drinks made with REAL jackfruit or REAL pandan or even real DURIAN?!? I wish the owners the best! I'm sure that driving every day from Orange County to the Westside must have been a nightmare for 4 years and I'm sure the rent on anywhere on Sawtelle must have been a nightmare. I don't know the exact reasons behind you all closing, but I'm sure you all had your understandable reasons. No matter what, your presence on the Westside will be SUCH a huge loss and you'll both be missed SOOOO much! If you all open anything else on the Westside, please do let us all know!!! We'll come out and cheer you all on again!!!

Mango boba with popping boba and regular boba

We stopped by Tea Mug Boba on a Saturday while in the area, thirsty and craving something refreshing. With high reviews, we decided to give it a try--and we're glad we did! They offer a huge selection of drinks--pretty much anything you could want. My son ordered the mango boba with both regular and popping boba. He never finishes his drinks, but he finished this one! I tried it too--it was delicious. The mango flavor was spot on, the boba was perfectly soft (not overly chewy), and the popping boba was fresh and fun to eat. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's street parking on busy Sawtelle Blvd, but it's worth it. The place has a cute, modern, and hip vibe with a steady flow of customers. The cashier was super friendly and helpful in guiding us through the menu. With the add-ons, we paid about $9--not bad at all for a quality boba drink. We'll definitely be back to try more flavors when we're in the area again!

Small selection but big taste. Small little tea place in LA. Tiny store front with only a few tables. Small selection of drinks compared to some other places. Ordered the pandang milk tea and the taro milk drink. I have to say I was impressed. Flavor is great not too sweet (at sweet level 75%). Not much else to say other than this place hit the spot.

Service here is great and I would come back when in the area. The drinks are handmade and unique. They were super busy but still hand delivered each drink to the recipient. Flavor was good, boba was alright but the drink itself is amazing. Seating area is spacious with people doing work but filled up because the store is smaller.

I don't understand the hype of this spot. I came here after seeing its high reviews on Yelp. I came with one other person and we ordered from their kiosk. I went with their popular pandan milk tea and subbed it for oatmilk, 50% sweetness, less ice, and added boba. The person I came with got their tropical fruit drink. Our drinks took a very very very long time to make. And they messed up my order by putting no ice in it. I really didn't enjoy the pandan milk tea and the boba also wasn't really good. It was disappointing. The guy working behind the counter was nice though. He was trying his best to be quick but they just seemed like they couldn't keep up with orders. It was pretty busy when we went. There is sitting areas inside but parking is a little terrible. There is limited street parking and one parking spot in the back. Not sure if we would come back with other options in the area.

Location seems very popular with the locals. The front of house was clean and cozy. Ordered classic milk tea with pudding. Milk Tea had very small amount of pudding and was very sweet even though requested 25% sweet. They do not have a Sugar Free or 0% sugat option in the self order kiosk. The task of tea was okay but too sweet for my taste Also ordered the hoise special coffee. This was an interesting drink and had cocoa powder sprinkled on top. Also chose 25% sweet and it was fine. This drink needed more coffee flavor and less milk. Access to bathroom is not ADA friendly. There was a bike and step ladder on the way to the bathroom. It could also be cleaner. Metered street parking available and free on sundays Overall below average drinks but friendly staff.

My new go-to boba place! Tasty - with perfect chewy & consistently on-point boba! The secure cup-tailored takeout bags are a huge bonus! Parking tip: use the next cross-street for free street parking :)

Came in at 5:00pm waiting for my mother to pick me up from the area, had 4 hours to spend & was relieved Tea Mug Boba was open! Peaceful place, amazing drinks, strong WiFi, exceptional service. Perfect for studying. I got the taro with oat milk (thanks for adding it as an option!) & the Tiger Milk Tea w oat milk (contains Ceylon tea & Thai tea). I ordered via the self-service kiosk & noticed a sign at the front says they're short-staffed so that's why there's a kiosk now. Sign in at the front w ur phone number before u pay to get points. Tiger milk tea w oat milk: amazing!! I'm a big fan of Thai iced tea & didn't feel like more coffee but still wanted caffeine. I got 75% sweetness. Taro milk tea with oat milk: my favourite!!!!! Luv the oat milk option bc most boba places only have cow milk. Got my drink in less than 5 mins & watched a myriad of people come in & out while charging my devices & working on my laptop. AMBIANCE: The music is very quiet, & the surrounding area is a lot of fun so it makes sense that people are just stopping in. INTERIOR: - The white tables have 2 seats but could really seat 3-4 people if 2-3 people shared the bench, and the square table is bigger than my desk at home so I didn't feel awkward w my university supplies everywhere. - Even though the tables are so big, this isn't noticeable, as the interior appears very minimal & spacious. - Absolutely lovely patio area with blue wire chairs & walls to make it more reserved. Noticed a lot of people out there as the weather was very warm. HOURS: Usually I stop by on my way home from UCLA & am happy they're open relatively late (my classes usually end 9:30/10 so I'm able to come in just in time). I ordered one last taro oat boba drink before leaving. Amazing! One of my all-time favourite places!

    strawberry papaya smoothie

This review is totally overdue as this is likely my 9th or 10th time coming to this gem since trying their smoothies ~1y ago. Tea Mug is the only place I know of on Sawtelle that has all of the following: decent parking (metered street), fantastic drinks, wonderful staff (the owners are so sweet and remember my order every time), open late, AND power outlets near tables for doing work/studying. My first drink here was the pandan smoothie and while that was nice, I have only ordered their strawberry papaya smoothie since trying it--specifically 'strawberry papaya smoothie w/ almond milk, no condensed milk, no toppings, 25% sweetness'. It is THE Perfect Smoothie. The quality of their smoothies is what really stands out for this place. It can get a bit noisy due to the blenders, but I personally don't mind background noise while I work. I absolutely love Tea Mug and enjoy interacting with the staff as well~

Owner/worker is so nice!!! Place is the best for a strawberry smoothie craving. I don't even want to try new things because I love this smoothie so much

Ambiance: chick and cozy tea and smoothie place, located in the north of sawtelle, street parking Service: very friendly and patient with specific requests, they missed one order and fixed it quickly Drink: simple choices from their menu for drink and smoothie, two sizes to choose and you can adjust sugar level Signature Milk Tea - *** bland taste, though the boba was chewy and good Durian Smoothie - **** creamy texture and refreshing taste, highly recommend Price: decent quality and reasonable prices, and it costs about $6 per drink

Tea Mug Boba has become one of my go-to spots for a refreshing pick-me-up! The shop is always super clean, and I love the relaxed vibe here. There's convenient outdoor meter parking, which makes it easy to pop in for a quick boba fix or stay a while and chill. Service is quick and the staff is knowledgeable on their drinks and always asks us for our preferences. My absolute favorite drink is their Thai tea - it's perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and super refreshing! My boyfriend got the K.I.S tea, very refreshing as well. Whether you're a boba lover or just looking for a nice place to hang out, Tea Mug Boba is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommend!

I LOVE THIS PLACE. We ordered the pineapple smoothie and pandan milk tea. The interior is super cute and clean. Our host was soooo nice, I think he is the owner? He even brought our drinks to us instead of just calling out our number. He gave great recommendations, super great service. I wish I still lived in LA because I would come here all the time. I really enjoyed my pineapple smoothie, my bf liked the pandan milk tea but thought it was a bit grainy. If I was still a student this would have been my go-to study spot! +great service +great drinks +wifi

I ordered the Pistachio Matcha with Oat Milk + Jasmine Silk Boba at 50% sweetness. The pistachio flavor was dominant on this, and the creaminess goes well with the tea flavored boba. This actually tasted like a dessert drink to me, but it was still refreshing. It was not overly sweet, but I'd probably request even less sweetener next time. The jasmine silk boba has a fun, softer than Jello kind of texture. The staff seem friendly, though there isn't much interaction with them if you use their kiosk to place your order. The space is clean and has some benches for you to sit and wait for your order, but I don't recall seeing any tables so it's definitely a to-go kinda spot. I recommend and will come back here for boba when visiting the area again.

The Yuzu Osmanthus Silk Boba was also really refreshing, especially on a hot day. It had a nice light citrusy and floral flavor that made it very easy to drink. Now I understand why everyone keeps talking about this place!

Every time I visit, I always make sure to visit once, if not twice. Super affordable boba, cute cafe with lots of cute merch, AND they have food and snacks. How can you beat that? When we were in the area looking for boba, I saw that there was a Ume Tea nearby (there's only 2 in SoCal), so my friend and I decided to stop by after our visit to the Milpitas location. There's a decent amount of parking in the plaza, but it can get quite busy given the area and the amount of businesses, but you can always do street parking and walk over. It was quite busy for a Sunday afternoon as there were lots of pick up orders and others ordering form the kiosks (they have 3 if you count the tablet on the counter) and waiting for their orders. It's a narrower location with no public restrooms (at least if there was, it'd be behind the employees only door, but I didn't ask). There's some merch on the wall, but not much of it sadly and 1 small statue for photo ops. There's seating, but since the shop is narrow, they're more like benches with small tables. Here is where, I think my bias comes out a bit, the merch here was some left over collaboration merch and some bags and cups I think, but NorCal had several different kinds of plushies, a perfume block, other air fresheners, stickers, plushies, etc. They NorCal locations also had way more for their food/snack menu like fried baby octopus (my favorite), bento boxes and much more (also in terms of how many different types of drinks that they have). It might be because NorCal is the California originator or because each franchise owner has different choices in what they have, but it wasn't as mind blowing. I get it though with raising costs and the limitations of space that they have. I got a passionfruit mango green tea with lychee jelly, 50% sweet (I'd go lower next time since it was pretty sweet) and less ice. Pretty refreshing for a hot summer day. Friend got a purple sticky rice milk tea, 70% sweet. Not bad, and didn't skimp out on the purple rice. Flavor is middle level milk tea. Not bad, hits the spot if you need it, but not mind blowing. I don't think I'll go out of my way to go to this location again, but I might try the other one. My friend and I were having a conversation about this, but maybe Ume Tea didn't enter the 626 BOBA WARS as with how limited they are compared to NorCal, the competition would be much too fierce, but it's so obvious how much the community and locals love them here.
