This is a cute, small tea shop with lots of interesting options. There's lots of samples to smell the tea and there were a couple samples available to drink. The ones I drank were very good too. Unfortunately, it seems like the samples for smelling were older and many didn't smell too good. Also, I had seen their gingerbread tea online, but they ran out when I got there. Tea Mansion is an eclectic store in Dupont that I had been meaning to try out! With a variety of teas from around the world, the store is very inviting and interesting to explore. It is a bit small, only about 4 seats in the entire store, but it has its charm! I popped in to take a meeting and enjoy a Wintermelon bubble tea. The tea tasted fresh and homemade, however, the bubbles were hard and stuck together. For the tea being $7 for a medium, I don't particularly think the quality matched up to its cost. I will note they had a very friendly staff member who took her time to answer customer questions on all the products. I appreciated the tea samples as well! I was in Dupont and was surprised to see a boba shop nearby and so went to check it out. Initially, it seemed good, the shop itself is cute and cozy but that was pretty much all it had going for it. My friend and I were perusing the dried tea for a bit (and they do have a large collection) but then we found out that the price started at like $40 for a small bag and we quickly put everything back. I feel like you don't even see those prices with quality Asian teas. Feeling bad for having stayed in there so long, my friend and I each got a boba tea but it was not good at all. To be honest, I've never had worse. I've had mid and subpar tea but this was bad. The flavor was almost nonexistent and tasted like it was dripped through paper multiple times, if that makes sense at all. I was very happy when I saw Tea Mansion because I had run out of green tea. I only buy organic. The sales people were super nice and friendly, and there was a wide variety of teas. But I already know my favorite: organic green tea from Japan. The sales girl opened the canister and invited me to sniff the tea. I was horrified! How many other people had sniffed that tea? What if something fell out of someone's nose into the tea? Is the tea still strong after the cannister has been opened and closed so many times a day for people to sniff? My strongest suggestion: Have a separate small cannister for the sniffers. I really wanted my tea and it looked good, so I bought it. The price was about the same as other tea I have ordered online. First, I think it's important to note that this place is nice and clean! The person who helped me wore gloves and a mask! Second, they have so many options for loose leaf tea. The person who helped me determine which teas and blends would work best for energy and focus as well as resting and sleeping. One thing that I bought was Darjeeling and it is definitely a very high quality! It's not lacking in those rich rainy day flavors that Darjeeling is known for. En route to Spa Logic north of Dupont Circle, my friend and I stumbled upon the Tea Mansion on Connecticut Avenue. The street board advertised "bubble tea," which always catches our eye. While the bubble tea here isn't as sweet as elsewhere, the ingredients are natural, and the flavor variety are more plentiful. Don't expect bubble tea of the standard variety. Despite this difference, we were pleasantly surprised by how good it was--albeit different. While there is a small seating area in the shop, the business seems to focus mainly on the sale of fine teas and both fine and fun whimsical tea ware. Stop by and try out a sample. I placed this order 8 days before receiving a notification that the order is being prepared. That was two days ago, and it still hasn't shipped. This means now that I will have to wait an additional 5-7 business days AFTER it finally ships before it's delivered to me? I have mixed feelings. TL;DR: Don't go for the bubble tea. I'm sure the other steeped tea is probably great (just not for bubble tea). I was walking by and saw the sign for bubble tea.. so I thought since I'm so thirsty, what better to quench my thirst with than some bubble tea from a shop dedicated to tea! I eventually was able to place my order - its a one-man shop, so he was running out to pour some more tea for folks sitting outside so it took a second to place my order. Anyway, I had the pick of the litter, so I ordered the mansion chai. It was recommended as a tea shop favorite and I was already considering a chai so I went for this one. The gentleman steeped the tea, once done, poured it over ice in a plastic cup, added in a little bit of boba (tapioca balls) from an instant pot/rice warmer, and had some non-dairy creamer. The bubble tea was not my favorite. It tasted really watery (perhaps because the tea was hot and poured over ice?), then the boba was really bland (with barely any boba in such a huge cup), and the milk creamer was kind of chalky. I LOVE bubble tea and will try different ones whenever I can, but this was just not my cup of tea (ha ha?). I've tried the loose leaf tea in years past and its been tasty, I think this might just be the shop trying to branch out a little more than they are able to? Perhaps there just needs to be some tweaking on the boba front? I thought this place was pretty cool. A birthday gift card is what brought us in and I'm glad it did. My husband is not a coffee drinker and loves quality tea. The associate was very knowledgeable about the teas and the company which is a global business which began with this location in DuPont. We walked out with 6 different types of teas with their Black Friday deal and felt good about the variety we bought. Located in the cute corner on Connecticut by the DuPont metro, the shop we clean and organized. Supremely confused by this place. A few years back, this storefront was occupied by "Capital Teas", the now largely defunct (all stores are closed but there's an online presence), tea retailer. Here's the thing: I walked in the other day and the new store was identical in layout, even most of the tea brands were virtually the same. This location also has similar flaws. Don't go in expecting a cup of tea - they can do that but this is mostly loose leaf retail. The tea is pretty high quality, but prices are not clearly marked sans an impossibly small sign in the corner, leading to some sticker shock at the register. Expect a hard sell and heavy handed sales as a result. It appears as though the owner really likes going after negative Yelp reviewers, which was a staple of the old company as well. Overall, it's a bad experience, and if it is the same company, I'm curious why they brought back this failed retail model -- though my understanding is that the Dupont location was pretty successful. Looking up the company history, there's no evidence that is the same company as Capital Teas or an offshoot, but seems seems very, very off here. Upon entry, I was greeted with dusty shelves. For a place called mansion, the vibes were more dingy shack. Looking in the right corner, I even saw MULTIPLE dead bugs. Still, in need of a cold boba, I pressed on, determined to support a small business. While the singular employee could not have been more warm, friendly and helpful, she regretted to inform me that the boba I had so desperately desired, was not only out of stock, but never sold. My sweat turned to sadness, and I decided to settle for an iced georgetown waterfront tea, to evoke the feeling of summer. The lovely employee proceeded to tell me that this tea store, did not in fact brew tea, only sell it. The mansion, could not even boil water or freeze it into cubes. WHAT KIND OF TEA ESTABLISHMENT DOESNT ACTUALLY MAKE TEA. We came to grab some tea before a walk. I went with a matcha tea; Brenna had a Thai iced tea. We were not impressed. The teas tasted bitter. You should avoid this place if you are looking for refreshing tea. The service was just so-so as well. This place is great for someone who is really into tea and is looking for premium tea options beyond what you would find at a larger chain. There is a wide selection of loose leaf blends to choose from with sample jars placed above to smell and get an idea of the tea before purchasing. At the front of the store was two different sample teas to try, both of which were very enjoyable. Hot tea seems to be the store's strong suit, which appears to be echoed by other reviews. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the blends offered and helped explain what made each blend different in composition and quality. Personally, I did not feel any pressure to purchase and the person helping genuinely seemed to have an interest in tea. I ended up purchasing a bag of their peach ginger oolong and have been very happy. Not much is needed when steeping a cup, and as the person who helped me said, it can certainly be steeped a second time and come through with lots of flavor. Overall, a great little shop, that is well organized and helpful. My only criticism is that finding pricing was tricky and I did have a bit of sticker shock at the register. However, after buying and trying the tea, I have come to understand what makes the tea here different, especially towards the other store brands I've tried before. read more

I stopped in on a cold chilly day and got a perfectly brewed cup of tea to go for just $5. It was a great way to sample one of their many choices of high quality teas. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. This shop is located in the heart of Dupont Circle and has a small Tea Bar in case you'd like to bring your laptop and hang out (free wifi!). it was a narrow escape that we did not get food poisoning from this place. we walked in for teas and it was too late to turn around so we ordered 2 drinks: one with boba and one without. they make the drinks in the back but the boba tapioca balls are in the front. SCARY! it was in an opened crock pot. the worker pulled some out with a spoon and at first glance i knew it was going to be bad. drinks were both really bad, even without the boba pearls. wouldn't recommend would never ever go again. if you're just going to buy bags of specialty tea or equipment, i think it would be a great place! overall, bad atmosphere-- only get tea if you're going to be making it at home. read more

I tried the two samples outside and went inside to drink boba with jasmine dragon pearls green tea as the base. The tea was refreshing and much lighter than most boba in the area. The employee was nice and helpful throughout and not just with me or my friends. Overall fun place to visit in Dupont especially if you're a tea aficionado. I was really excited to visit this store but when I entered I couldn't find any labels for the teas, which have the health benefit and caffeine levels on them. While the employee was able to describe this to me, without the visual I had no idea what I was looking at. There were mosquitoes everywhere and I kept having to swipe dust off of the shelves which triggered my allergies. I talked to the manager on the phone directly and he kept blaming his employees which made me uncomfortable because the people who served me were very kind. I think the issue may lie with management... I saw other reviews that talked about roaches, it wouldn't be hard for me to believe due to the lack of cleanliness. Do better tea mansion. read more

We walked in, in need of hydrating, it was an extremely hot day and all we wanted was a bubble tea. There were only three tea flavors that were not written down anywhere and there were no prices or size options. I'm very certain we were ripped off. It took 20 minutes to receive three bubble teas. The boba was flavorless and the tea lacked all flavor. The color of the tea was a strange yellow hue partly due to the milk added. The mango tea turned a strange yellow tone (see picture attached). Today I went into the Tea Mansion, I usually go there every week but none of the usual workers were in. Apparently the miserable rude woman working at the counter had let go of everyone who followed COVID-19 guidelines; because not only was my tea not prepared but was also packaged without gloves. Safe to say I didn't drink the tea or contrive COVID-19 from my visit due to the woman's lack of attention to procedural guidelines. I really wish I could say I loved this place, but I can't. The person working there was friendly and tried to be helpful, discussing the tea and whatnot. So if that's your cup of tea, by all means add a star for that. I prefer to browse in peace. I had been craving a bubble tea for quite a while and decided to get one. Let me start out with my experience and say that there were too many options and not enough parameters. Specifically, apparently you can request any type of tea that is on the wall. A sign with the options would be nice... a sign with the price would also be nice. So let me warn you by saying that a "small" (I'm assuming there's actually no size, and I was not informed of this---the cup was huge, probably 20+ ounces?) iced bubble tea cost $6.99. For that price, it should be amazing. Spoiler: it wasn't. I asked for one that was lightly sweet or not sweetened at all. I was given one that was lightly sweet so that wasn't a huge complaint although I would have been okay with totally unsweetened, as I originally requested. In response, the guy making it basically said he was going to make me one that was lightly sweetened. So choice is kind of there? My biggest complaint was that the tea was watery and weak. When asked how it was, I said it was okay. The person working there said he could make it stronger so he added a bit more tea. That improved it a bit, but it was still pretty watery. In retrospect, perhaps I should have ordered a different type of tea (black instead of green, perhaps, with a longer brewing time). To make it worse, the tea-maker stirred the tea with the straw and was touching the end rather than middle so his hands were all over where my mouth would have been going. Between that gross factor and then the tea not being very good, I ended up throwing it away :( read more
