This is one of the better matchas I've had in DC. I'm fairly picky with my matcha lattes and this one hit the spot during my trip. It's a little place hidden within a grocery store, and there was a short line but it was definitely worth it! Good matcha flavor and the vanilla was not overpowering at all. Not super sweet either. Finally got to try little hat! They have unique drinks available along with the standard coffee and tea options. I wanted to try a seasonal special so I went with the orange blossom latte. The cortado was not only smooth with just the right balance of espresso and milk it also had a distinctive taste. The shop uses A Toda Madre Roasters. Simply delicious. I thought the prices were fair. The shop had a line the whole time I was in the store, but I didn't wait long for my cortado. Seating is definitely limited. I think I only saw one or two stools. My cafe served pandan syrup earlier this year and it became a hyperfixation for me up until we sold out. I've been missing it ever since and can say this latte scratched that itch. Still think ours had a bit of a bolder flavor and remained a deep green color, but still delicious and one of my favorite coffees I've had in the DMV area thus far. Baristas were nice and helped me get to my preferred sweetness which I appreciated. Also- keep in mind this is a cafe inside a grocery store. It's a small yet focused menu with attention on seasonal ingredients for your best drinking experience. My friend Kaya pointed out that they are sold out of matcha, which is a bummer because she has declared this the best matcha in the city, but I think it's a great sign to the integrity of a cafe to decide not to put matcha on their menus during a matcha shortage. Rather than feeding into the large market that is hungry for matcha, there could be issues of the quality and purity of the matcha we see today. And if you are going to commit to serving matcha, it must be handled with responsibility, cultural context, and care! To pivot and expand customer palettes I think the Little Hat Cafe's choice of Hojicha ( a roasted version that typically includes more parts of the tea leaf) is a suitable and responsive way to approach what's happening in the beverage industry. Their employees were super busy because this is a popular cafe, but they were all nice and accommodating. Our cashier took the time to explain the latte and how to adjust the sweetness to suit our tasting palettes. The drink itself came out beautifully frothy and fully incorporated. This is essential for all drinks where it's one part high quality ingredient and other parts technique! Technique is tasted in the way the ingredients coat your tongue and genuinely adds to the drinking experience. This attention to detail is very important for shops today as there has been an overall rise in the price of beverages. Craft is everything now. The cafe's design is also just so adorable, I love how simple and fun it is. Now they're officially located at Streets Market on 14th!! They only have two bar seating, but still fun place to hang around (probs not work). Streets has outdoor seating tho! My favorite drinks are the Pandan Matcha, Date Caramel Latte, Tamarind Fizz, and Yuzu Matcha Lemonade :-) but can't go wrong with anything. Currently using Lost Sock for drip and A Toda Madre for espresso drinks. Ask if they have any specials that day or seasonal stuff! Stopped by their permanent new location on 14th street. They kept same great quality from the pop up. I have tried the cold brew and took a recommendation on chai latte. Both are really good cold brew is great. Smooth without dullness you get from watering down you get from iced coffee. Chai latte was great too but on the other end of spectrum. Sweet and rich. Saw on social media that this was voted the best matcha in DC, so I had to check it out. It's inside the Streets Market, and I don't remember if there's any signage outside saying they're in there. I ordered an iced pandan matcha latte with oat milk. It was heavenly and definitely one of, if not the best matcha latte I've had in DC. The pandan added a nice, creamy coconut-like sweetness that worked so well. The service was friendly, and I didn't wait too long for my drink. Adorable cafe tucked inside Streets Market with a super friendly staff and a fun drink selection! Little Hat Coffee has a small but mighty menu, including your favorite espresso classics (but you could add their pandan or date caramel syrup for a fun twist) and a number of specialty drinks. I loved their matcha yuzu lemonade -- it was super refreshing and fruity, and it was perfect for cooling down on a hot summer day. For the cooler months, I would definitely recommend their matcha latte, which you can get hot or cold, sweetened or unsweetened. It doesn't have a ton of matcha flavor, especially if you get it with syrup and/or almond milk, but it was all-around a solid latte. Since they're hiding in the back of Streets Market, Little Hat doesn't have a ton of seating space, save for a few seats at the countertop bar. Even so, they managed to craft a great vibe for hanging out (either alone, with a friend, or just with the staff -- they're super friendly) if you're lucky enough to snag one of their three high tops. I came here to meet a friend for coffee and i dont think ill come back. This is probably the worse Chai latte I've had in the city, unfortunately. This place is likely good if you're on the go because it's very conveniently located right on 14th street. Inside there are only seats.
