You'll like Denny. He's great to work with, accommodating, and flexible. Good crew, friendly, no smokers on my job, if that matters to you. Totally pleased, no regrets of any kind. I highly recommend him. The rest of this review is a bit of a lengthy, but may lend some perspective if you want a bit more to help you decide whether consider his services.
Job #1. 2 1/2 years ago Denny and his crew widened the driveway on my newly built Elk Grove home and poured a cement walkway and slab on the side of my house. Everything looked great, the finishing work on the cement was perfect, and Denny was a very easy to work with. It was a relatively simple job, and I was very pleased with the result. Five-star job.
Job #2. Fast forward to this summer, 2019, and it was time to replace the very unpleasing low-water-consumption, supposedly nearly maintenance-free, overgrown and weed infested, bark covered mess, that was passing for my front yard. I had screened several landscaping companies, before talking to Denny. All things considered, don't know why I didn't just call him first and save myself the time and trouble of dealing with a bunch of unknowns. As we began discussing my general plans, I knew I had made the right decision, and really began to look forward to working with Denny again.
The back yard, which had never been upgraded from the original dirt patch, was also to be given a total makeover. Denny worked with my plan for both the front and the back, providing the benefit of his experience on many points, literally saving me from numerous pitfalls, explaining the pros and cons of all my proposed plans. His crew totally cleared the front yard, extended the sprinkler system to cover the full front, created a cement mow-strip around the new planter strip set next to the house and front porch area, created a planter bordered by a mow-strip around the tree in the front yard, added a second set of sprinkler valves to support the expanded sprinkler system to be installed in the back yard, sodded the front yard, and laid river rock in the planter border and tree surround. Totally transformed the front yard and the curb appeal of the house.
In the back, after a number of discussions and changes-of-my-mind concerning the size and placement of a cement patio, he and his crew created a beautiful stamped and brushed-border two-level colored-cement patio area with ample space for a 10x10 gazebo on the upper level, and a large lower tier, with a narrow river rock border along two sides of the patio, and along the existing side cement area from the first job. I wanted to maximize the remaining back yard area to create as large and usable grassed area as possible, which required bringing in extra fill to level the slope at the opposite end of the yard from the patio, and down the side of the house, making that side yard level and usable also. A new sprinkler system was installed for the back yard, and a three foot wide cement border was poured next to the house so that sod/grass was not placed next to the house like I originally planned, which would have been bad for the foundation and lower edge of the stucco. Just one example of the many problems I avoided through Denny's experience and recommendations. At the last minute, literally minutes before the cement was to be poured for the cement border on the newly leveled side yard, I requested that they not pour the cement border on the side yard, but instead, lay down a sand base on the complete side yard area, so I could set up 18x9 above ground pool for my granddaughter to use. Denny readjusted the cement forms, ordered up enough sand to give me a good base, and a week later the sand and his crew arrived, and the result was a perfect area to set up a pool. They capped the sprinkler system in that area so I could activate it in the future if needed, should I decide to remove the pool and create a garden area or lay down sod.
Net result: loving my new yard and patio area. Any thoughts I had about doing any part of this makeover myself vanished once I saw just how much work, time, manpower, and coordination was required to get this all accomplished. Denny was there when he said he would be and addressed any and all concerns and changes in his usual positive and pleasant way. I can't count the number of times I found myself saying "you're the expert, and I'll trust your judgement and experience". I was never once disappointed with deferring to his judgment, and frankly, was glad to not have to worry about every detail. Number one piece of advice if you engage his services, if you're not a landscaping expert, LISTEN TO DENNY. You won't be disappointed. read more
