The manager, Thomas checked each dish that landed on our table of 6 throughout the service. He was not completely satisfied with how our fried oysters came out and we were granted a new one- and these are absolutely delicious! We were too full for dessert but next time it's happening! Went there last night for our anniversary dinner. Live on the MS Gulf Coast so wanted to take a drive and do something different. The wait staff was phenomenal- Ben and Bailey. This was my first visit to Tchefuncte's Restaurant in Madisonville, LA. We went for Thanksgiving dinner so we had a fixed menu with 3 selections for each course. Oh My Gosh was everything so good!! Everything was cooked exquisitely. The servers were friendly and fun. When they bring each course several servers are there so everyone gets their food at the same time. There were 6 in our party and we all enjoyed the meal and the ambiance of the restaurant. Yes, it's on the pricey side, but oh so worth it! Chad was our main server and provided us with just the right amount of attention! Our business partner took us to this amazing restaurant along the river for a wonderful dinner. We started off in the bar and I ordered a fun cocktail called Holiday Cookies, a delicious martini with the rim of the glass covered in vanilla icing and sprinkles. It was made with vanilla vodka and was more of a dessert because it was so sweet. I loved it. Being from KY, I noticed they had a great selection of bourbon. This bar and restaurant is so beautiful, especially this Christmas time of year. I couldn't stop staring at the huge wreaths throughout the restaurant. Our waiter was so good and spent a significant amount of time with us going through the entire menu. I really liked how he spaced out the meal so we didn't feel rushed. Over the two hours we were there, we enjoyed some wonderful appetizers, good wine, the best sea bass I've ever had and then of course the desserts which were to die for! I've included pictures of the menu because we experienced just about everything listed. My favorite besides the sea bass was the pork belly appetizer which was itself a meal. What we ordered was not great- average at best( we both ordered pastas)- appetizer of crabmeat beignets was good - perhaps steaks might be a better choice for entree! . Great wine selection- always chilled Chardonnay!- Prices are comparable to very high end Nola restaurants like Brennans, Bayonas , Antoine's! Respectfully, I don't truly think we pay for the taste of food these days as much as we pay for the premium we pay for the service. Dining experiences are different for us all. I sat at the bar to eat dinner on December 23, 2023. The service was absolutely the worst service that I have ever experienced. The repeated requests for basics such as silverware and napkins did not match the price of cold food served. Terrible service. Overpriced meals served cold. Did I mentioned that they had 3 people servicing the bar that night? Terrible experience. This would be my 5th time visiting this restaurant. This has been the only time I've experienced this. Went for my birthday dinner. I was excited for carpaccio and duck breast, not a lot of restaurants around have them on menu. Carpaccio had onions on top, even though it had capers, but didn't have needed acidity flavor to complete a dish. Fried oysters on top were ok. Duck breast was over cooked and mushrooms had too much oil. Ahi tuna dish - avocado part overpowering tuna, and crunchy lemongrass whatever they had on top make it feel like you are eating fish bones. read more

I had never been to Tchefuncte's until the recent holiday season, during which I had the occasion to go three separate times. Parking was always trouble-free and the setting was first class. Unfortunately, while the other aspects of all three of my visits were consistent, they were consistently short of what I had hoped for and, to be frank, expected, given the prices. The staff was generally attentive and polite, but reserved a truly welcoming and friendly approach for customers who appear to have been regulars. That left the impression that one must first prove they are worthy of the full Tchefuncte's experience. More problematic was the food. The bisque was good, but not very warm. The crab ravioli was equally thermodynamically challenged. The pear and roquefort salad was fine, as was the shrimp remoulade roll. In fact, except for the fact that it wasn't particularly warm, I had no real complaints about the food, which was certainly adequate. But that's the problem: adequate shouldn't be good enough for a place that advertises itself as upscale and charges upscale prices. If your budget allows you to include upscale prices in your regular dining out rotation, Tchefuncte's service and food aren't bad, and the setting might be enough to keep you coming back. On the other hand, if your disposable income means reserving places like Tchefuncte's for special occasions, my three recent visits convince me you can do much better elsewhere. read more

For the price of the meal (several rounds of drinks, two appetizers, 4 entrees, & two desserts), we expected excellent service. If not excellent, then good service would have sufficed. We were a party of 4, and we were there for approximately 3 hours, which is ridiculous in and of itself. I understand that is not the fault of the server, but our server did not check on us ONCE between getting the orders for our courses. The busser took orders for drinks and asked if we were okay once he started to realize we weren't being helped. Additionally, most of our dishes were served lukewarm, but we didn't want to send anything back for fear of waiting even longer. We unfortunately won't be back for our next Christmas dinner. read more

Food is incredible!!! Crab claws -to die for; an interesting twist that makes this appetizer a definite winner. Red fish was soooo good. Portions are very generous. (You'll probably have another meal) And the desserts!!!!!!! Crème brûlée is the best ever. Service with a smile! Wait staff is very attentive without being intrusive. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is calmly elegant. And how can you beat that river view?! I will definitely be returning. In fact I made reservations for Sunday brunch!!! Was really excited to try this place based on location alone! It did not disappoint! First, the place is beautiful! We were seated in a private wine room so that was a nice touch! The menu had many great choices so it was hard to narrow it down to a few! The drinks were amazing and what really sets this place apart was the service! Everyone was super polished yet very friendly which I appreciate! I Gabriel was so so great- really made us feel comfortable and explained everything! I honestly can't wait to go back!!! This is definitely a special occasion restaurant. It feels different from your local restaurant the second you step in. The decor and views are very romantic. I definitely recommend making reservations many weeks in advance. The veal chop is amazing. The only item we ordered that didn't impress was the mashed potatoes, but heck..it's mashed potatoes. The menu descriptions are culinary masterpieces. However, the actual flavor is disappointing. Most items were cold, room temperature, and mostly flavorless. The ravioli served with the veal chops were hard. The veal chop with mostly fat. Ordered the surf and turf. The ribeye was burned on the outside and served room temperature. The few pieces of crab meat smelled fishy. The pork belly appetizer tasted like salty, cheap ham. The caviar appetizer was OK, but somehow all of the condiments bland. For the prices, I would have expected superb service. Our glasses were left empty on many occasions. Also, we did not get things that we ask for such as ice, lemon, and water. Everyone is polite and friendly, but not 5 star attentive. The atmosphere was absolutely stunning. The restaurant is beautiful. Unfortunately, Texas Roadhouse beats this place on flavor. read more

The location and how they decorated the place already makes it a 3. The food alone with me getting veal panne, was delicious, perfectly cooked, and seasoned. I went here with my girlfriend for our anniversary and they got us champagne and drinks. Champagne on the house. My girlfriend started with the assorted pastries which were the best either of us has tasted. I had the pork belly which was slowly cooked and tender. Service was amazing. The highlight of the night was the bananas foster French toast which was the best French toast either of us have had in our lives. I recommend this place for anyone for a date night. I cannot believe we drove across the lake for brunch but we did and this place did not disappoint us. The house cured salmon is reason for the commute alone. We feasted and enjoyed everything that we ordered (and brought home some). I would highly recommend crossing the Causeway to come here and will find any excuse to head back. In this case, Tchefuncte's offered a set 4-Course Meal selection. 1st/Appetizer: * Crab Claws w/Mustard Dip * Oysters Rockefeller * Butternut Squash Ravioli Soup 2nd/Soup or Salad: *Turtle Soup * Butternut & Lobster Bisque 3rd/Entree * Redfish, Green Beans+Oyster Stuffing * Ribeye, Mashed potatoes, Asparagus * Turkey Rotisserie (can't recall) =Extra Sides for Table: *Sweet potato casserole *Spring Vegetables * 4th/Dessert: * Apple Pie a La Mode * Chocolate Doberge Cake w/Butter Cream * Chocolate Run Pecan Pie I elected to have the: * Sesame Bread * Butternut Squash Ravioli * Butternut Squash & Lobster Bisque * Redfish w/green beans & Oyster Dressing * Sweet Potato & Pecan Casserole * Apple Pie w/Vanilla Bean Ice Cream And I swapped and tried: * Crab Claws *Oysters Rockefeller MEAL STAND OUTS: Oyster Rockerfeller, Crab Claw Mustard Dip, Butternut Squash Soup, Red Fish, The overall Stand outs were the Oysters Rockefeller, which were very good, with a nice garlicky flavor, while not being greasy like at many places. The Crab Claws were Stone Crabs, and excellent, the pre-cracking saves time, frustration and most mishaps, but the Mustard Dip was the memorable part. While offering enough heat to catch Your attention it thankfully lacked the typical bitterness of most mustard dips, this one somehow remaining mild and wonderfully smooth. The Red Fish which was simply perfection, with its crunchy sear, and soft interior,not much else to say, as it was literally cooked perfectly, tasted wonderful, and I throughly enjoyed every single scrumptious bite! Also, from what I heard from three out of the 6 dinners, so 50% of guests, was that the Ribeye was exquisite, having a lovely sear, being nicely pink, and yet fully cooked. With it being the size of a hand with Your finger spread, and about as thick as Your thumb tip to Your 1st knuckle. Best part, You could "almost" cut it with a fork, "Almost"...(You likely could if You were under 60yo) *smiles* ISSUES/CONs: No real place to 'wait' for your table. There are about five (5) Grey lounge chairs on the 1st floor, located before the elevators, but other than at the bar, which has dinners on at least one side, whom you will be infringing upon as the Dine, since they face out towards the bar. I can tell. You that standing around at the Hostess desk while they figure out where You are being seated, is a bit "off putting", as You are directly in the path of on-going Server traffic To/From their open kitchen; along with any In-Coming and Out-Going Patrons, since you are standing there in front of the Hostess Podium and the elevators; so Basically Everyone! To their credit, they do have places to sit at a long bar (not a drinking bar), that is directly in front of their open kitchen design. Which is where I stood fascinate and waiting while I watched the waitstaff and kitchen staff go about their work. Sadly, we did have to request Steak knives for our 60+aged dinners, unable to cut their Ribeye with their forks. At which point, we were told that their steak knives were all 'dull'. Only to have the Server return with what looked like three old time curved circus throwing knives! I had to laugh at the comment made, and then at the size of the steak knives he brought. Tchefuncte's gets the 2 stars for ambience, appetizers and the deserts...the entrees completely missed the mark...big time. The ribeye was charred like it just got pulled off a public park bbq pit and had nothing but a burnt flavor, and the Hawaiian ribeye was over cooked. That said, the steak 'machete's' they brought us were not sharp and could not cut the steak (medium rare). We asked for another pair and they were just as bad. The sea bass looked great but was undercooked and was rubbery. The sides were just ok. After spending $550 on a subpar meal it is highly unlikely that we will return. read more

The atmosphere, service, and food was excellent. I had the roasted oysters, bone in filet, and the tchefuncte potatoes. The oysters were prepared with an herb parmesan crust. The filet was cooked to my request, I had the worcestershire glaze which was delicious. The tchefuncte potatoes is a "must try"! Four of us had a delightful meal at Tchefuncta's. The food was excellent and service was perfect. There was one problem which the restaurant needs to correct. The menu showed single malt scotch but did not show the price. We were shocked when we received the bill for one serving of Scotch listed at $42. If the restaurant wants to charge that much for single malt it should list the price on the menu. A patron does not ordinarily or ever ask the price of a cocktail, so it came as a shock to get a $42 tab for one scotch. Put the price of single mode on the menu. read more

Waited an hour for brunch entrees and when they did arrive it was underwhelming to say the least. My eggs Benedict was so bad I had to send it back. Waiter took drink order, then asked us to please order our entire meal at once. We said that we would like to take our time and would prefer not to--not allowed. Had the oysters for an app--a bucket of breadcrumbs dumped on 4 oysters. Horrible. Next course- fried soft shell crab- WITH HONEY MUSTARD.. who does that? My fault for not noticing the sauce. Birthday boy had the house snapper--marginal at best and sitting on a little piece of something green and few pecans on top. Au Gratin potatoes with no taste. Waiter coming by every 2 seconds... ughhhhh Here comes the good part--Got our bill and there were 2 extra charges under the drinks??? Hmmmm... they charged $3 per drink for olives. And a $2 upcharge for a martin "up" instead of on ice. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? At that point, we just wanted to get out of there. Paid our very LARGE bill and left. Meh. Before coming to this restaurant, I emailed them to see which menu items fit my specific dietary need. They replied and said they couldn't tell me because the menu changes daily. When we arrived, the ambiance was nice. We had a reservation, but our table wasn't ready, so we had a drink at the bar. We got to our table and I explained my dietary need to the waiter, who was somewhat knowledgeable, but the menu was pretty limited for me. We were brought an amuse bouche that I couldn't eat and the appetizers all contained a component I couldn't eat. The beef carpaccio was good, but for example, it came with fried oysters (which I can't eat) and even though the waiter knew this, the order came out with the fried oysters right on top. Steaks were one of the menu items I was able to eat and, ok and behold, the waiter came to the table to inform me that they were out of the steak I ordered. This was a 6pm reservation, not a 9pm one, so the kitchen should've been better prepared. Nothing we ate here was special. When it came to dessert, there were no options for me. I am emphasizing how unaccommodating they were to my dietary need because at this price point, given that I called in advance, they should have had more options and flexibility for me. The restaurant is a lot of glitz and glamour but it doesn't deliver on the food. If you want steak, gallaghers is MUCH better. read more
