    Bbq pork turnover ($2.10 each)
    Lisa Z.

Little dim sum spot located inside St. Francis Square. Cash only. Can get pretty busy during the weekends. Recommend looking at the menu before you walk in as it can get pretty hectic. The first thing I ever got from here is their hot spicy wontons because a lot of the reviews said they were really good so I had to try them. Indeed, they were right. It has chopped up veggie filling believe and strong curry flavor. Each order comes with 4 wontons for about $2.90. After a week of trying it, I was craving it again! Definitely a guilty pleasure. I also ordered their bbq pork turnover and curry puff. I haven't tried their turnover yet. I didn't enjoy the curry puff as much. I thought the filling would be the same as the hot spicy wontons but it wasn't. :/ I would pass on this next time and get another order of wontons. Overall 3.5.

If you need to get your dim sum fill, I recommend coming here. It's cheaper than a dim sum restaurant. There's a fried dumpling thing. I forgot the filling or name but it was my favorite item. Out of all the things I ordered, I think the only one that you should get at a dim sum restaurant is their shrimp rice roll. It was a little tough/ crispy (I prefer mine soft) My coworkers 40-50 years old really liked the Taho / tofu with boba. We thought it would be too sweet but that isn't the case.

I like the shrimp with cilantro dumplings.

Food: The dim sum here is quite good. I like their shrimp dumplings. Their pork siu may is also delicious, although it was much better a few years ago, but again, it's still delicious. Another must is their spicy fried wontons which are flavored with curry - they're bite-sized, crunchy, super savory, and fun to eat! But my favorite of all is their triangle-shaped char siu sow (BBQ pork pastry turnover) - they're flaky, savory and hearty. So yummy. Service: Service is just so-so, as expected from any takeout dim sum shop. The shop can be pretty busy even in the afternoon/early evening, but the service is typically pretty fast. Ambiance: The shop is really meant for take-out service so don't expect any tables for people to sit at, so it's impossible to rate the ambiance.

The food is better at their Irving St. location in San Francisco. This location is convenient if you are in the area. My favorites are the egg rolls, fried wontons and porridge with the Chinese doughnut. On the weekends, expect to wait around 15-20 minutes during meal times as they are popular among the locals.

This place is good if you're looking for some affordable dim sum. Their menu is very limited, but it's good enough for cheap dimsum. Everything is less than $10. I think this place only does cash only though. You can get 3 pcs of dimsum for like $4. No dine-in inside ever since COVID hit. They get lines, but they serve pretty fast. The ambiance isn't anything special, just a place to get cheap dimsum for to-go.

My favorite at this place are their baked pork buns. The other stuff if really good as well, but not a lot of places serve bake pork buns. It's really good. They have a lot of choices and there's often a line and off the charts long line on Saturdays.

No frills dimsum place in DC! It is strictly cash only so make sure to bring your Benjamins if you're planning to hoard pastries and whatnot. They're open everyday 8:30am - 7pm and closed on Tuesdays. With COVID, they only allow 4 people at a time inside the premises so it can skirt around the parking. Quick tip: while in line, already decide what you want to get as the cashiers / staff aren't exactly that patient. You get the vibe that when you're there, you already know exactly what you want. Also repeat your orders and be clear with how many you want for each. Sometimes they may think you ordered an item even though you didn't. But otherwise for the goods - get your fill of the baked BBQ buns! $1.70 for each bun but it's worth it :)

The interior continues to provide an old school atmosphere with bustling ambiance, a koi fish pond (beloved by the children), large tables for big families and fish in tanks. The food is generally pretty good. Cantonese food is known more for balance, so even if you order their "Szechuan" dishes, there isn't a ton of spice. I'm a big fan on their XO sauce, so the XO pan fried rice rolls are my favorite. The green seaweed crunch shrimp rice roll is also quite good. We placed our orders and settled in to wait for our dishes. As we chatted and shared stories, we noticed that the table behind us was receiving their orders and sitting down about 10 minutes after we did. We started to see plates arriving for other tables, prompting us to investigate the status of our food. Upon checking, we discovered that our order had been lost. After waiting for half an hour, we were informed that they had misplaced it. Consequently, we had to place our order again. Let's dive into the details of our dishes: - #210: Roasted Duck Burrito: The burrito lacked substantial duck meat, and the wrap was not warm as it should have been. - #405: Shui Mai: This dish was consistent with the taste of other Shui Mai we've had. - #409: Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce: Regrettably, we never received this dish. - #416: Har Gaw: This was the last dish served us. It arrived steaming hot, but the wonton skin wrapper was thick and chewy. - #421: Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce: The ribs had a sweeter flavor than expected. - #504: Fresh Okra Poached with Garlic & Scallion: The okra was not slimy and had a pleasant taste. - #304: Hand Roasted Suckling Pig Slice: The slice was incredibly tender and crispy. - #312: Crispy Tofu with Garlic/Herbs: The tofu was crispy, but some of the coating that wasn't fully fried with it tasted a bit raw. - #808: Crispy Fried Taro Puffs with Pork: These were crispy and warm. - #802: Fried Glutinous Dumplings with Dice Pork: The dumplings were crispy and warm, but the pork was minimal. - #711: Stir Fried Beef Chow Fun: The dish was good, and the meat was tender. Throughout the meal, our waiter kept checking on our order and relaying messages in Chinese about the dishes still needed for our table. After two hours, we decided to cancel the chicken feet. When the bill arrived, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the service, and the waiter responded with a series of "ok"s. After a few more "I'm not happy" comments, he removed the "service charge" and informed us that we could decide whether to leave a tip or not. We did leave a tip, but here's my tip to you...take your chance #dimsum #chinesefood #koipalace #disclaimermusicisnotmine

We didn't have to wait long for a table; there were a few patrons here but it wasn't overly crowded. After we ordered, we didnt have to wait too long for our food to arrive, and when it did it was really good! The salt and pepper chicken wings had a nice crunch and were not overly salted, and the walnut prawns were delicious, and my boyfriend finished up their seafood porridge. The service here is quite good too; my boyfriend ordered the porridge and when it was delivered to our table, they even poured some in a smaller bowl for each of us which was nice. After our meal they even packed up our leftover food in to-go containers. The one thing though was that nearing the end of the meal I wasn't quite finished with my bowl of rice (I took a little break) but they mistakenly took it away assuming I was done. They didn't pack it with our other left-over food so they must have thrown it out :/ It would have been nice if they asked first before taking it, especially since there was still food in it. Overall, we had a really good experience here, both in regard to food and service.

They are located in a strip mall near several different food places, bakery, and a bowling alley. This is a solid dim sum place, with no frills and reasonable prices. You order off a printed menu that's in Chinese with tiny English subtitles. You can also order off their regular menu if you want to supplement the dim sum dishes. Their food is very good, and some dishes were excellent. The service was pretty quick, and before we knew it, all our dishes were out with almost no room on the lazy Susan. The standouts for me were: + Steamed custard buns (piggy buns) - I ordered these for the kiddies, but dang they are so good. The custard filling is so velvety, it's almost like pudding. I think I detected a hint of coconut too - yum. + Beef chow fun - this had a really good wok flavor and the noodles were less wide than most. The noodles didn't clump either, and the bean sprouts were still crispy. + Roasted pork belly - the skin was so crispy and the pork was juicy. We ordered most of the basic dishes like har gaw, sui mai, noodle rolls, turnip cake, stuffed eggplant, chicken feet, etc. and they were all above average. My only complaint is if you don't read Chinese, the menu is a little hard to navigate. The English subtitles are so small that if you're looking for something, you have to scan the front and back of the menu trying to find the item. I was looking for sticky rice in lotus leaf, but found sticky rice roll and thought it was the same thing. It wasn't. The sticky rice roll was not bad, but I found the rice drier than when it's in lotus leaf. We ordered a few things by mistake because the English subtitles were not that descriptive. Overall, a great alternative to more popular places like Koi Palace. The menu may not be as creative as Koi, but you don't have to deal with the lines and you still get great food.

We tried the BBQ Pork pastry, and it was flaky, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweet and savory--definitely recommend that one. Overall, we enjoyed almost everything we ordered. The only miss for us was one of the fried fish dishes and the green onion mantou, which was just okay. Would we come back? Absolutely. The service was efficient, the portions generous, and the food solid. Great spot if you're looking for dim sum that delivers on quality without the usual weekend chaos.

Most Chinese restaurants will accommodate a guest request so long as they have the ingredients and they know how to compose the dish. How they work out the pricing may be something else. At the table immediately behind my mom, I heard the guest ordering a Hot & Sour Soup, add Won Ton. One of my favorite mash-ups! We ended up having a very nice conversation over lunch. Of course, we ordered the same soup and the price they charged was a reasonable $16.95. I've had some places try to charge me for two soups which I think is ridiculous. He had the black bean spicy fish with white rice, and I chose the mapo tofu with fried rice. Each lunch came with tea, a cup of hot and sour soup, and an egg roll. The soup really stood out. It wasn't just a thin broth with a few scraps floating around. It was a genuine, comforting hot and sour soup with real ingredients in every spoonful. That alone made the meal feel thoughtful and complete. The portions were satisfying and well balanced, and everything arrived hot and fresh. My husband enjoyed his fish, which had good flavor and a nice texture. The mapo tofu was exactly how I like it. The tofu held its shape, which made a big difference. I do not enjoy overly soft tofu that falls apart, and this had a firmer bite that worked really well with the sauce. The dish was clean tasting, with a steady heat that was noticeable but not overwhelming. It had spice, but it did not overpower the dish or linger too aggressively. There was no pork, which I appreciated, and it still felt complete and satisfying without it. What made this meal especially meaningful for me is that I had just gotten out of the hospital a week ago after dealing with malnutrition, dehydration, and several health issues. I had not been eating well and had lost over 80 pounds in the past year. This was the first full, nourishing meal I have truly been able to enjoy in a long time. For the first time in months, I did not feel weak or fragile afterward. I felt full, steady, and strong. That kind of experience goes beyond just good food. It felt restorative. It felt like care. From what others often say, this place has built a strong reputation for bold Sichuan flavors that are still approachable. People tend to mention the generous portions, the consistent quality, and the fact that the spice levels are flavorful rather than overwhelming. It is the kind of spot that draws both regulars and first time visitors who are looking for something reliable and satisfying. Spicy House gave me more than just a meal. They gave me a moment of comfort and strength when I really needed it. We will absolutely be back.
