Dined at Tavi in downtown Covington on a Sunday and as always, it was quite good. My wife and I started with the Tahini hummus appetizer with fresh warm pita and it was great. We each followed with the Fattoush salad. Crisp and tasty! As we have come to expect, service was excellent and the surroundings tastefully comfortable. We had such a great dinner at Tavi in Covington. I got the salmon and my husband went with the lamb burger. We started with the fried chicken hummus and it was amazing. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Even my husband, who usually isn't into Mediterranean food, said he loved everything and would come back. The pita was so fresh, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was beautiful and inviting. Definitely a 10 out of 10 and we'll be back for sure. read more

Really enjoyed this restaurant. We were a party of six so got to try a lot of different dishes and got feedback from everybody. The restaurant is small, so make reservations. Some of the portions were small but that was not true of entrees we ordered. Great vibe but the staff seemed overwhelmed by the crowded restaurant. Delivery of food and drinks was slow and not consistent, otherwise I likely would have rated a five star. Priced well. One couple ordered a sharing special for $48 which was more food than anyone could possibly consume. They are from DC and said it was some of the best Med food they ever tasted. read more

One of my favorite places for Mediterranean food, love all of the hummus plates, especially the smoked roe hummus. The pita bread is amazing, and always hot and fresh, they keep it refilled too. We have now been here several times and it's been consistent each time and very good, service is also top notch. read more

Most Mediterranean places are th same old stuff not Tavi every thing popping bright and fresh my wife and I had Monday special which was like grilled sampler grilled beef kabobs grilled to perfection chicken lamb delicious with rice dish that wasn't you average rice Pell off it came with three sauces one was a tzatziki sauce, which I usually hate but this was great lemony and bright loved it. They had a red sauce and green sauce. They were awesome. Wish I knew their names but if you get a chance you need to go it's excellent. read more

Was came to Tavi because everything else was closed...and I'm so glad we did! The food here is amazing. Everything we had was delicious. The best thing was the chicken thighs on aromatic rice. The chicken was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The rice was phenomenal. The spices they add to the rice made it so flavorful. I would come back just for the rice! This has always been a 4/5star place- but tonight was very disappointing. Our first round of pita was t hot- the fried chicken hummus...chicken was not hot and you could tell it had been sitting for a while. Why you ask? Because they were severely understaffed tonight. if you don't have enough server help, don't fill up and sell out your restaurant. I don't fault the servers, I fault the management. Not the best experience...cold food and slow service. Our server had at least eight tables, and two parties of seven people. You just simply cannot be at all tables simultaneously and provide good service. read more

We ordered the bass and soft shell crab dish. Honestly it was a 6/10. The flavors were just ok. The portions were small. The bass itself was tiny on a bed of ... I think it was couscous or quinoa? Don't remember but nothing really stood out. My wife ordered 2 cocktails and wine. Both were mid. I probably wouldn't go there again. Didn't understand the hype. read more

Tavi is the kind of cuisine I would never say no to and is my absolute favorite! Let's start with the pita bread which came out super warm and puffy! It made the perfect vessel for the fried chicken hummus which was my favorite bite of the day! This dish was so comforting and filling. It hit the spot in the best possible way! The chicken and rice was interesting and flagrant. But the lamb.. the lamb kabobs stole the show! We can't wait to come back to try the dinner lamb. They also have one of the best desserts in the city. Do not skip the cheesecake!! Apparently reservations are a must here! We didn't make one and tried our luck during lunch. This place was recommended by a friend and when we walked in place looked classy and come to find out was Mediterranean. My friend and I don't eat seed oils so we naturally though ok Mediterranean! Olive oil galore. Nope. Canola oil everything! We had something to drink and no food. Shameful on restaurants using canola oil. Plenty of healthy oil choices besides olive oil. Having missed lunch I was looking for something light mid-afternoon to carry us until dinner. The first local Greek restaurant we tried to dine at closed at 2:30pm, looking back I have never been happier to walk into a restaurant and have them tell us they were closing. If not did that, we never would have ended up at Tavi. What a gem of a restaurant. Everything we ordered came out looking amazing and tasting even better. The service was great even in the odd hour and the ambiance was bright, clean, and welcoming. A disappointment. I ate here almost a year ago and I remember it being some of the best Middle Eastern food that I've ever had. Especially the hummus. Tonight's dinner did not compare at all. The service was fine but the food was both under flavored and under salted. The mushroom hummus was a particular disappointment. The mezze were "ok". The pita bread was fantastic as before but it seemed that they were constantly running low on it. The bathrooms were a disgusting mess. Had a great dinner with coworkers. The meze was very good. Flatbread with feta was excellent. Kofta kebab was overly salty and over done hence the minus 1 star. Shrimp was also slightly over salted. Rest of dinner was very good including the bass, lamb shank, grilled shrimp, brussel sprouts, hummus with lamb, halloumi. Service was excellent. Ambiance was excellent. My second time; dinner for one first, and lunch for two the second. Does not disappoint. I am unfamiliar with Israeli food but have eaten good Mid Eastern before. Service was pleasant on both occasions. Mark was excellent in explaining the menu for our lunch date. The server at dinner was great but they were very busy that night. Of course a couple of old men tables were capitalizing on the Servers' time by trying to be humorous and witty. I was in no hurry and was soaking up the beautiful, yet simple/clean ambiance. I had the Sea Bass $$$ the first time. Very delicious and I didn't mind the price considering the freshness and preparation. For Lunch, we tried several things, Sujuk, Tahini, and Israeli salad. The Tahini was creamy and sat in a 'bowl' of hand made Hummus. Excellent with the fired oven Pita bread. The Sujuk was something I had wanted to try since seeing the photos. Good but not my fav. It reminded me somewhat of a Lamb calzone-like thingie. I was expecting a little crisp, a little spice. Israeli salad is da Bomb when you add the grilled shrimp or chicken skewers. We got both and split the salad. Leftovers came home in our own takeout containers. Get with it people and stop throwing these things away. Bring a small gift bag with a couple of clean containers and reduce your impact. read more

I would have given this restaurant 5 stars, but it is a bit pricey. The food is outstanding. We went for lunch on a Sunday, which is unique for Covington. We had Hummus with wild mushrooms, WOW. Ikra is to die for and get the smoke trout roe on top. The homemade pita bread is the best. My husband had the Wagyu brisket sandwich, enormous and delish. I had the green salad with shrimp. Outstanding dining experience! Great service! Extensive menu! Lovely atmosphere! We were four in our party, everybody ordered something different, and all were thrilled with what we received. Great cocktails, too. The only thing I might do differently is not go on a Saturday night because the place was jam packed. Didn't bother the staff at all though. I had dinner for the first time at Tavi recently to celebrate my lady friend's birthday. We went on a quiet Tuesday night. The restaurant was well-staffed even on a weeknight, the server was congenial and informative without ever hovering or disappearing, the bartender and bus staff cleared dishes as we ate, always with a smile and a word, and the sous chef, Jay, came out to introduce himself and check on our meal. The service was thoughtful and purposeful. Between the three of us, we had a good sampling of the menu, with a mezze, a few hummus, a few small plates and a big plate. While we all had preferences, I can't say we had a plate that wasn't made with absolute care and attention to detail. The chefs' takes on hummus presentation are creative and artfully constructed, and taste is on point. The pita is made fresh in a pizza oven adjacent to the bar, and the effort yields a perfectly crusty and airy flatbread, as well as a scent of char and yeast that I'd personally enjoy if it were bottled. Served only with their herbed olive oil, it would've been a notably well-made first course. As a hummus delivery tool, it's amazing. We had a piece of baklava butter cake to celebrate our birthday girl, and it was just the kind of dish that makes me want to try harder, baking at home. It was inspired, it perfectly represented both baklava and butter cake, and it looked like a sculpture on the plate. There have been a handful of places I've eaten at in my life that I'd just try any plate off the menu, and trust that the chefs care enough about their craft to produce something worth trying, even if it were something I usually avoid. I had the Israeli Salad and added grilled chicken. The salad was good, but I thought that the ratio of cucumbers to tomatoes was off. It was nearly entirely cucumbers. Tavi is a beautiful hummus spot in the heart of downtown. The staff is kind and you can watch the pita being made. A favorite of mine that may not be on the menu now is the Ghazel Banat (orange blossom gelato) for dessert. The dragon's beard/candy floss-like topping makes the dish an adventure. read more
