Village House Restaurant - BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt: Big, hot chicken fingers with plenty of cheese and BBQ sauce!

Running through Albion, NY, with family at lunch time, my mom had a gift certificate for Village…read moreHouse Restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised, impressed with the experience! The parking lot here is plenty big and there were plenty of spots when we pulled in around 12:30pm on a Thursday. The building isn't fancy, the interior comes off a little dated (men's bathroom could use a deep clean) but it's surprisingly spacious with plenty of tables and booths. We walked in and were greeted by a friendly young woman at a counter who grabbed a couple menus and led the two of us to a booth. It didn't take long for our waitress to come over with waters and gave us a few minutes to browse the menu. Be ready to have some decision paralysis as this menu is HUGE! There're tons of sandwiches, burgers, wraps, melts, salads, entrees, etc., in addition to the daily specials. My mom had been here a few times before for work lunches, so she already knew what she wanted, but it took me a second. Our waitress was incredibly courteous, pleasant and she was plenty patient with me! Our waitress made sure to check on us periodically throughout our meal. Once our orders were placed, we sat and chatted for maybe 10-15 minutes before our food came out - I was very surprised how quick it was! For lunch, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt with a side of french fries. The description of the BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt is pretty self-explanatory: crispy chicken fingers covered in BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar jack cheese between grilled sourdough with a side of ranch dressing to dip in. It may sound basic, but wow, this was REALLY tasty! There had to be three or four meaty chicken fingers in there and they were fresh out of the fryer. There was a generous amount of a sweeter-style BBQ sauce on the chicken fingers but it wasn't overpowering. Between chewy and crispy, the bacon leaned chewier but still had a little crisp to it, no complaints from me. This super melt was super cheesy, delish! The cup of ranch on the side was an awesome touch - I drizzled a bit on top before each bite. And the side of french fries were excellent - Right out of the fryer hot and perfectly golden crispy, one of the better side of fries I've had in a long time. For around $13.00 (as of 05/2026), this quality and size of the melt with fries was excellent, I was perfectly full as we paid for our meal at the front counter. I'm really impressed with Village House Restaurant! It's not fancy but the staff were very friendly and the food was hot and fresh. With how expansive their menu is, I need to come back and try another sandwich, maybe a wrap, or a burger, or a...

Village House Restaurant - Albion NY…read more We should have just gone down the road to Taco Bell or McDonald's. We would have been more satisfied. Fries were cold, burger was burnt. Chicken finger dinner came with 4 fingers and a handful of fries. BLT was nothing special. Pretty sure they used microwave bacon. (We could hear how many times they used the microwave while we sat there) Iced tea tastes like it was made from a powder. I highly discourage people eating here. We were charged for an extra side that was supposed to be included in our meal and our server SYD seemed to hide in the kitchen after giving us our bill. They claimed that the extra side charge was an UPCHARGE for substituting fries for onion rings. CHECK YOUR BILLS!! Make sure it adds up right!! We weren't the only ones complaining about an extra charge tonight either!! Decor was okay. Place smelled a bit fishy inside and out.

My friend and I visited for a plan of a late breakfast and possibly an ice cream. We were greeted when we walked in and took a look at the small, curated menu to make our picks. We went with a bagel with locks and a sandwich as well as two drinks from the cooler. As we waited for our food, we purused the local produce and other locally sourced goods as well as the cold cases and also checked out the ice cream menu. They had non-local items too, but I'd say the majority were local. One thing that struck me as odd is that some things had pricing, but it seemed like most (or close to it) didn't have a price anywhere we could find. That is one of my top pet peeves, no pricing. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I think if you're trying to sell something, you should make you're prospective purchaser aware of how much you'd like for it. Anyway, I'll step down from my soapbox. We received our food and sat in the seating area to the right. It had a good amount of seats and nice house plants around. There was also an outdoor patio it could open up to when it's nice out. The food was well presented, fresh and tasty. We opted not to get ice cream (hard scoop: Yummies; custard: Pittsford Dairy; Italian ice: Frank's).... Mostly because they didn't open that part until noon, so we'd have had to wait a bit.

We came here to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday, and I ordered the seafood-stuffed prime rib. It was, without question, one of the worst restaurant meals I've ever been served. The prime rib was mostly fat, it was cold, the seafood stuffing had virtually no flavor, and the entire dish was inedible. I took a few bites, but simply couldn't eat it, so I politely sent it back. Our waitress, Haylee, was wonderful. She was kind, professional, and genuinely apologetic. None of this reflects on her service. She handled an awkward situation with grace, and I hope management recognizes what a great employee they have. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after that. The manager, Jackie, came to the table and seemed more confused that I didn't like the meal than concerned that it had been served in that condition. Since I wasn't looking for a free dinner, I told them I was perfectly willing to pay for the salad bar, which we had been told at the beginning of the meal was $17.99 if you didn't order an entrée. When the bill arrived, I had been charged $22.99. When I asked Haylee why, she explained that the manager had charged me for the salad bar and then added extra to help cover the cost of the entrée I had sent back. That is completely unacceptable. I asked to speak with the manager, but she never returned. Instead, Haylee came back and said there had been a "miscommunication" and that the salad bar had actually gone up to $22.99. Given what we had been told earlier, that explanation was simply not believable. I had no problem paying for the salad bar. I did have a problem being charged extra for a meal that was inedible and then feeling like I was being given an excuse instead of an honest explanation. A restaurant can recover from a bad meal with good customer service. What it can't recover from is making a customer feel like they're being misled. Haylee earned five stars. Unfortunately, the food and the way management handled the situation turned what should have been a special birthday dinner into a very disappointing experience

My husband and I were in town for the Medina Triennial, and decided to take the recommendation of…read moreone of the folks working the Triennial and have dinner at Zambistro before heading home. It was a Thursday night around 5:30 pm. We did not have a reservation. Restaurant was about half full at that time, with lots of indoor and outdoor options. We chose to sit inside and JoHannah was our server. First off, service: JoHannah (that's how it sounded, but might not be spelled right) was excellent! She was friendly, super knowledgable about the specials and the menu, very efficient, and attentive. She was there as soon as we needed her before we even called her over. Service out of the kitchen was great too - time from ordering to being served was short and courses came out without too much time in between. Second, food: everything we ate was delicious. Food seemed high quality with nice presentation. We had a cup of the Italian wedding soup (soup of the day) to start - it was possible to have a cup or a bowl, and it came with a packet of crackers. It was great - broth was flavorful without being too herby, had a good amount of pastina, meatballs and cheese, and the cup was a nice amount before the appetizer. Next, we shared the special appetizer of burrata with a local peach and jalapeño salsa, over a bed of arugula dressed with a lemony dressing, served with crostini. It was very very good. The salsa was very flavorful and the perfect combo of textures and sweet, spicy, salty. For our main, we had decided we definitely wanted dessert, so we split a dish - we got a 10-oz steak with asparagus, and what was described as shoe-string fries. A side of béarnaise came with the steak. Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the béarnaise was a delicious accompaniment. The fries were 'regular fries' in our opinion, not 'shoe-string', which are usually much thinner. But they were fresh and crispy. For dessert, there were so many options! This was definitely one of the best dessert menus I've seen around - besides gelato, chocolate lava cake and cannoli (which everyone seems to have these days), they offered affogato, several cakes, and the cheesecake, which we got, which had raspberry, blueberries and pistachios. We thought it was delicious - a generous slice and perfect for sharing. All together with tax, it was the perfect amount of food for us, and the bill (we did not have any drinks) was almost exactly $100. We consider that, for the experience and food quality, to be a great value. Final notes: They brought out a basket of their homemade rosemary sourdough bread with regular whipped (unsalted) butter and a 'butter of the day' (which on this day was (we think) blueberry) for the table. The bread was so good we ate the entire small loaf - and we probably shouldn't have done that only because we were extremely full by the time we finished dessert! Also, ambiance inside is nice - feels a little fancy, though diners were all dressed comfortably, many in shorts. I would think this is a great spot for date nights, birthdays or family dinners where you want to feel special. There is a small parking lot right next to the restaurant and street parking too. Reservations are recommended for weekends (and by the time we left, around 7:15 pm, the whole restaurant inside and out was packed!) We'll be back!

French onion soup wasn't bad, too much Worcestershire and bread, but cheese crust was nicely broiled. Clams casino dressing had good flavor but almost a liquid texture under the broiled layer. The prime chateaubriand was not carved table side as per the website, was sliced very thin and put on a metal platter, arriving at the table evenly gray brown (ordered medium doneness). Luckily it was only well done on one side of the thin piece, likely because they did not roast or charbroil the beef to order but sliced it off a larger pre cooked piece and then reheated it, so one side of a very thin slice is well done the other is medium, also definitely not 18oz per the paper menu. Side of sauteed onions had zero color or salt. The roasted broccoli, mushrooms and cauliflower were good, only slightly overcooked. The tiniest baked potato was good as long as you don't want like a steakhouse experience with crisp salty skin, this was more mushy, wet and without salt. The scallops were very slightly undercooked, minor point. The soft drinks are served nice and warm in the can with a small glass of ice that instantly melts so you get one glass of watery pepsi and chase it with a nice warm glass. Want sour cream with your potato, they got plenty of warm single serve plastic daisy packets which is nice. The carrot cake wasn't bad. Chocolate Ganache cake was okay understanding the base chocolate used for the ganache was either old or just of poor quality, the chocolate sauce was plain Hershey syrup. Staff were neutral, not bad, bur definitely not offering to refill empty drinks. Ambiance was gorgeous! Parking has was plentiful with easy access. So if you like a very cozy and intimate atmosphere with rewarmed beef, warm canned pepsi products, warm plastic packets of sour cream and a have strong fear of salt and baking potatoes larger than your index finger, give The Johnson House a try!
