I made the mistake of reading some negative reviews before coming and almost canceled our reservation, and am glad I didn't. We had 6:30 reservations to eat outside on a Wednesday and were seated right away. Service was great. Drinks were great. I had the salmon and my husband had all the meat (the original) and was able to switch up the sides. Everything was very good and we will absolutely come back when we are in the area. read more

Sickening! We wish we could leave negative stars! What an absolute waste of a property with nice views this place is. We went in for the first time today 6/14/26 and it surely will be our last. It was totally dead other than maybe 5-6 customers. When we entered, we wanted to sit on the deck but had to find someone to ask if it's ok to seat ourselves. Finally, the hostess did seat us outside. Our waitress "Cecilia" came over and seemed miffed when we ordered 2 waters to start with and asked for just a couple more minutes to look at the menu (we just started looking at it) She only had one other table with 2 people that we could see outside. But she decided to wait an odd amount of time to come back. When she did, she made some comment like: "Yup, finally decided to return" - something to that effect... So we ordered an unsweetened iced tea (got sweetened tea instead) but we never mentioned it. We also ordered a kielbasa appetizer that SHE recommend, a caesar salad and two orders of chicken wings. One order plain, and my order garlic buffalo. First off, the kielbasa tasted like azz and was simply one small piece sliced down the middle. But we didn't say a word about it. Next, my wife got her plain wings. They were "ok" but very dry. We didn't say a word about that either. However, my wings came loaded with honey mixed with some type of hot sauce (not buffalo) The second she put it down I said, Oh, I wasnt aware there was honey on these? We can not have honey because we're both on a very strict Keto diet, as we explained to the waitress. She then RUDELY explains that this is HOW IT IS "on the menu" and thats what "I ordered" - 100% wrong. I clearly remembered what I ordered and it had zero to do with honey. Then continued on that there is only a "little honey" so its not a big deal. Pretty much saying, so little honey won't effect your precious diets - Basically we were told - we're going to take em' We were also thinking, what restaurant doesn't stock regular buffalo sauce that has wings as a big part of the menu??? Their menu says: "Q" (apparently meaning BBQ) Plain, Honey, or Garlic Buffalo sauce. I paused for a second and accepted the wings which also seemed to piss her off. I did try ONE BITE (one) and it was LOADED with honey and tasted gross anyway. Was a strange flavor.. She did come back with the usual attitude because she noticed me not eating anything (I think) I tried to explain that we didn't like them but she DEMANDED that THIS..... is "what I ordered" it wasn't.... I ordered garlic buffalo sauce, NOT honey. So she **reluctantly* takes them away after BOTH my wife and I told her that we don't like, or want them multiple times. Then she mumbled something about the menu and the fact that they ONLY offer buffalo sauce/honey mix and they DO NOT offer "just Buffalo" (without) honey. Our menus had been taken away so we couldn't double check while we we seated at that moment. She was NASTY during our entire visit. Not just nasty, more importantly WRONG - as the menu -clearly indicates- regular buffalo sauce. We checked it as we were leaving! This was far from the end though. As we were walking to our truck, we were "engaged" by an angry "Cecilia" yelling down at us from the upper back deck. She was LIVID that we didn't leave enough tip, which we've NEVER done in the past. So we ended our "nice lunch" with a shouting match. She told us how (great) the service was, and I objected to that fact saying..... well, your service actually sucked, and you should REALLY read your own menu before preaching to customers that they're in the wrong for not reading the menu properly. Fun Sunday afternoon! No wonder why the place looked like a ghost town inside. After feeling like we were bullied for 45 minutes I finally told her what I thought of her and the food with a few choice words which we do not regret. Never seen such a thing in our lives. I'm going to email the owner but I have a feeling they already know what they are. Do not waste your time, and by time I mean an hour + wait for dinner. Sunday evening July 26, 2026, NOT BUSY, long wait for ice cold ribs. Not a good value for dinner so you are paying for the view and on this night the good weather. Service was horrible with too many issues to list here. Oh and we did have a few drinks both served in the wrong glasses, we had neither a martini nor a high ball but I guess the 20 something bartender had no clue that drinks should be served in drink appropriate glasses. The waiter or waitress (I was not sure what we were actually dealing with to be honest) served those drinks not on a tray but with hands holding them by the rims. For the love of god if you're even an hour away, take the drive! My boyfriend and I came from New York to visit family and came across this beautiful gem! The view, the food and the service! Our server Emma was realily busy and we were happy to see the whole dining room was full. She was so efficient and pleasant throughout the meal that we were ab to enjoy our stay. The food was excellent. I had the salmon, which was delicious. My daughter had the jambalaya which she raved about and my husband, the birthday boy, got his ribs and boy did they fall off the bone with smoky tender goodness. First visit to Tavern on the Hill (Easthampton MA), located at the base of Mount Tom and boasting great views of the valley. They only serve dinner, so the barbecue is fresh, not the re-heats served at too many places nowadays. Clean bites in the ribs and moistness (dare I say juiciness) in the fatty brisket. Flavors were subtle, with not much rub and smoke, but one man's "not smoky enough" is another man's "clean" (and there's no right or wrong as long as there's no deception). All meats unsauced, with basted-in flavor in the ribs and three fantastic homemade sauces served on the side. Excellent service and good value. Wings: Not smoked but not bad. Looked a little light but adequate crispness and adequate interior. "Adequate" is actually the perfect word, since there was absolutely nothing wrong with them but nothing noteworthy. The mango habanero glaze was mildly sweet, mildly spicy, and pretty much just a lubricant, applied with restraint. Ribs: Probably the highlight of the meal. I was surprised to receive four of them with the multiple meat platter (although he fourth meat, which I expected to be sausage, wasn't there). Small to medium size, as tender as you'd want without drifting into over tender, while still having some crispness to the crust. Nice heat tingle on the surface, along with some very mild sweetness. The meat was moist though short of gushing. Almost no smoke flavor, and I didn't smell any smoke on my way in, although I did see plenty of wood piles. Pulled pork: They gave a ton of it; I probably ate 8 forkfuls and still had plenty left for a very generous sandwich the next day. Of the three meets, this was the one I suspect might have been a reheat: not dried, but the moistness was watery some flaky texture underneath. Gray color though not unappealing like so many. Barely any smoke. Brisket: More gray, though very, very tender and succulent, even to the point of being juicy. Good fat content. Not so good color but there was some pink here and there. Bark was dark black with rub in some bites and not in others. Sauces. Three different homemade sauces featured a non-yellow mustard and two sweet (same sweet base, one with pepper flakes). All excellent. Sides: A mixed bag, with baked beans the highlight (flavor similar to a mild chili), collard greens flavorful, and mac & cheese and potato salad adequate but bland. read more

My mother in law said it was a good place but "slow", so we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Arrive at reservation time, seated almost immediately. Good start. *4 minutes- time between being seated and waitress coming to take our drink order. Very good. Unfortunately this is the end of the good. *22 minutes- time it took to receive 2 cocktails and 1 soda. Placed order for appetizers at this time. *9 minutes from ordering appetizer to its arrival, not bad. Placed dinner order at this time. (That's 35 minutes seated before even ordering dinner) *39 minutes to receive dinner! I know it's a bbq place... but damn, did they go out and slaughter the animals first?! Food: *Fried Brussel sprouts were good. Could use a different dipping sauce. House bbq sauces went better with the sprouts. *French Onion Soup was full of flavor, delicious, and a hit. *Bacon Cheddar Burger. Bacon had great flavor. Meat needed some help, Added spicy bbq sauce to the burger and it definitely helped. *Brisket - Both plates had some really fatty pieces, so much so my wife that generally likes steak fat made a comment it was overly fatty. *Ribs were tender,full of flavor, seasoned well. My issue is with the service. We were a party of 6. The server did not even take our entree orders until after the appetizers were GONE, after she pushed another round of drinks, and after we had to ask her to take the order. Then, the bill included not only a full 20% tip on the full bill, including the bar tab, but also an upcharge for using a credit card. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Very good food and an amazing view. There was so much food that 4 of us were able to eat well with 2 of the 2 meat dinners with left overs. We also had a basket of the amazing cornbread and the potato skins stuffed with pulled pork. The brisket was my absolute favorite. I am not a fan of the taste of smoked meat, but the brisket was mild smoke and extremely flavorful, and tender. Their homemade BBQ sauce, original, spicy and Carolina style were awesome. It got a little windy so they were gracious enough to allow us to move inside. We start with poutine, without gravy. Of course the breakfast skillet was cooked to perfection the cheese curds were wonderful and sweet potato fries were so good. I had the chicken and wild mushroom risotto. It was a large portion And came out piping hot. The chicken was so tender, as I suspected it would be being a barbecue restaurant. My date had the salmon over mashed potatoes. We tried Tavern last night first time and we were not disappointed. Our set server, Cecilia, was awesome. We tried the poutine and a side of brisket. Poutine was done with crispy sweet potato fries and topped with cheese curd, gravy and brisket. The brisket is the most juicy and tender brisket I've ever had. (I did ask for the point, not the flat.) Seriously, the brisket is awesome. Homemade sauces were all so good, I could not decide which I liked the best. Even the two choices for salad dressing were awesome. We had the chicken and mushroom risotto and tortelatchi (sp?) for entrees. I don't write very many reviews, but I have some thoughts about Tavern on the Hill. We arrived on time for an early reservation (5PM), because our party had two young children. We were seated outside, and the view of the mountains is beautiful. However, the setting sun was brutal, and the umbrellas located around the deck were no help - half our party was staring straight into the sun, the other half had sunburns on the backs of their necks. We placed our orders promptly, and then waited. And waited. And waited. More than an hour after we placed our orders, the waitress returned to tell us that one of the side dishes was sold out. In the intervening hour, she offered no explanation for the delay, and didn't come to refill drinks more than once or twice. This might be understandable for a super popular night spot at peak of service, but again, we arrived at 5pm (but didn't actually eat until 6:20). When the food arrived, the BBQ itself was very good. Ribs, brisket and pulled pork were all flavorful and juicy, definitely some of the best BBQ in the region. Sides were fine, pretty standard, none of them jumped out as noteworthy. One member of our party got a burger instead of BBQ, and described it as flat and kinda flavorless. So, overall, we had a mixed experience - the BBQ was really good, the other foods were just OK, and the service was pretty bad. If you have a lot of time on your hands and don't have kids and either sit inside or don't mind getting fried in the summer sun, I bet it is a great experience. Otherwise, be cautious. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Tavern on the Hill tonight. It was our first visit. We ordered grilled salmon, BBQ plate of 1/2 rack ribs, and Pasta Jambalaya. We knew we ordered too much but we wanted to try all 3 dishes. The 1/2 rack ribs were lean, meaty and very tender. The beans were included in the BBQ plate and were delicious. My husband had the grilled salmon and he said it was excellent. We brought home enough for lunch the next day. We sat in the main room with a nice view. This was our first visit back since the fire. The restaurant was pretty busy and since we did not have a reservation, we were seated in the bar area. It was very cozy and the decor was warm. Our server, Maddy, was very friendly and attentive without being overly attentive. She took our drink orders (a beer and a mixed drink) immediately and returned with them shortly after. Excellent service. I ordered their grilled salmon and my wife ordered the smoked chicken special (ala carte) and a warm beet salad. The food came out at the right pace and very appealing to look at. The grilled salmon came with rosemary mashed potatoes, haricot verts, and an apple/carmelized onion/apple cider vinegar sauce. The salmon was cooked very well, was moist and flaky. Treated right! The potatoes were delicious and the haricot verts still had a little bite to them. the sauce was very good and brought all the elements together. One of the better Restaurant salmon dishes I have had in a while. The chicken was very tasty but a little dry. It was like it was missing something. Not to worry though, my wife added one of the barbecue sauces that are available and it really enhanced the dish perfectly. She was very pleased. The real star of the show tonight was the beet salad. The beets were served over a bed of mixed greens and red bell peppers. It was topped with mandarin orange slices with a gorgonzola cream sauce. My wife usually does not like gorgonzola but found this sauce to be amazing! It was very well prepared and fresh. We also ordered some brisket for to take home for a hungry son. It was tasty, tender, and juicy. Thumbs up from my son. Prices were fair for this inflationary new normal. We found that for the quantity and quality, everything was well priced. Overall this was an excellent experience and we were talking about when our next visit would be. This will be added to our "go to" list when we want a good meal in a good atmosphere.
