I first came to Miyako in search of a nail artist for my wedding. Leading up to the big day, we experimented with a few different styles I had in mind, and she nailed every single one (pun intended). She also did my Barbie-in-Vegas-themed bachelorette nails, which were absolutely stunning. I felt like a bad b**** every time I walked out of her studio. What truly sets Miyako apart is her meticulous attention to detail. The shape, smoothness, and evenness of the nails are always flawless. When I got there, of course I was upsold an additional $30. I have eyelash extensions, so I asked if the daughter could ask the mom if she had something to protect my lashes. They ensured me that my lashes would be fine, as they have several customers that wear lashes. At the end of the appointment, my lashes were a mess. I didn't feel that she "protected" my lashes like what was conveyed to me. They were a mess, and if you wear extensions, you know how expensive they could be. So I wasn't ecstatic about that. The environment in the room was cozy, and the table was warm. The mom bundled me up with blankets and I felt good. There wasn't any calming music, and I just heard the television from the main nail room. It would've been nice to have some soothing music, to cultivate a full relaxing experience. While I ultimately enjoyed the facial, I found parts of the facial experience to be rough. She massaged my shoulders, top part of my chest and facial pressure points. Later, the daughter told me she did acupuncture as well. It was kind of hard and not very relaxing for me. At the end, the daughter said that in order to obtain the full benefits of the facials, she advised me to come at least weekly. In this economy, I can't afford to come weekly or even biweekly. I may or may not revisit.

The Good: The guy who did my manicure is amazing--super nice, friendly, and did a great job on my nails. The woman who handled my pedicure was also wonderful, and her work was top-notch. The Not-So-Good: The nail tech doing my design, however, didn't even bother to say hello. Throughout the service, she never asked how I was doing or checked if everything looked okay. My cuticles were left looking really rough, and she skipped the basic courtesy of applying any oil or lotion at the end. In fact, it was so bad that I ultimately asked her to skip the design on my ring fingers because I didn't want to draw any more attention to it. Ironically, my pedicure technician was the one who noticed how dry my hands looked and kindly handed me some oil. To top it off, when the tech finishing my nails was done, she didn't even say thank you. The Verdict: At $130 for a Gel-X set, the baseline expectation is that your cuticles will look presentable and you'll receive basic courtesy. Fast forward to now and I can you tell that I am a happy client. Raina is one heck of a nail professional. Her work, creativity, and art is top notch. With her I don't have to wear acrylic and gel-x nails. The photos you see are my natural nails. Aside from her work, her salon is super cute and gives off a cute, chic, hotel vibe. It's all pink and makes me feel I got transported to a different world - pink and comfy.
