pros - lovely, friendly service - homemade flavors - amazing ice quality - eye catching bright, yellow mobile food truck cons - very thin paper cup / cone that will definitely have syrup flowing down your hand in seconds - upselling to a 'reusable' plastic cup for $2 - no water / sink for washing your sticky hand(s) afterwards - expensive: $8 / per shaved ice & $1 / topping - limited toppings-no mochi - use of unnecessary food coloring in syrup

We used Tats Shaved Ice for our daughter's graduation party. Everyone loved it! Ice was soft and syrups were awesome.

Small is now $3.50 and $4.00 for the large. $0.50 price increase but still cheap & worth it. Not always consistent with days and times but such a pleasant surprise when you do catch them outside of bay view golf course! 3 flavor max and $0.25 extra for cream flavors. Flavors include: strawberry, banana, vanilla, coconut, pineapple, li Hing mui, grape, cherry, lemon lime, grape & lilikoi

"Friendship Garden"... Doesn't that sound like a cool place? I was looking for this hiking spot in Kaneohe, Oahu, when I saw the bright yellow Shave Ice truck on the side of Kaneohe Bay Drive, right after passing Castle High School. Since I wasn't able to find Friendship Garden, I drowned my sorrows in Tats Shave Ice. Good move, since it was a "HOT" 83 degrees on a warm January day in Hawaii... The truck was parked on the grassy area in the shade in front of the Bay View Mini-putt & Zipline, next to the Bay View Golf Course. There is free parking alongside the truck, on the lawn. There was a short line, but it moved fairly quickly. Service was quick and friendly - they even humored me when I asked that they hold my shave ice lower where the sun could shine on it and I could get a better picture of it with the sign in the background - haha! I ordered a plain, small Rainbow flavored shave ice. The 3 primary colors of red (strawberry), yellow (banana), and blue (vanilla) are the best deal because the colors merge and form 3 additional colors: Orange, green, and purple - so pretty! Small size (which is quite large) is $3.50, and large size is $4.00. Cup holders are 50 cents - a good idea since the paper cone gets mushy after a while. Next time, I would bring a large bowl and pour my shave ice into the bowl! LOL! Other flavors available include regular ones like grape, rootbeer, cherry, lemon-lime, and orange; and tropical flavors such as lychee, li hing mui, pineapple, coconut, and lilikoi. The creamy flavors are 25 cents more (strawberry frost and orange frost). You may order up to 3 flavors maximum at one time. If you want additions, azuki bean is 25 cents; li hing powder is 50 cents; white cap (condensed milk) is 50 cents; and ice cream with specks of vanilla bean is 25 cents! Tats Shave Ice is available for parties, fundraisers, and special events. Just call them at (808)221-7525 or get on the mailing list: whereistats@gmail.com. Ask them where they will be next! My personal tips for better shave ice enjoyment: 1. Face the wind - unless you have a ponytail or crew cut! 2. Lean forward - so it doesn't drip on your lap or feet! 3. Consume in the sunshine - you'll get cold soon! 4. Alternate spoon and straw action! 5. Enjoy!

Tat's Shaved Ice participated in the Sept. Eat the Street event. My son quickly eye'd it out since he loves shaved ice, and it was something refreshing for him to eat on a humid sunny afternoon: Rainbow Shaved Ice - 3 stars - for $4, we got the rainbow shaved ice. Although the shaved ice they gave was pretty huge, compared to other shaved ice stores we've been to, there wasn't much of a selection for additions (only icecream, azuki beans or li hing mui flavoring), and a little pricier for basic shaved ice. Service - 4 stars - staff was friendly and courteous.

The tats shaved ice truck is hard to miss and is iconic in Hawaii! We had the chance to have the tats shaved ice truck come to our church community event! The consistency of the ice was great, the amount of syrup was just right, and their flavors were delicious! I high recommend this shave ice to anyone who loves a well put together shaved ice from Hawaii!

Tats was the bomb!! I had an issue with another slush vendor and even though it was 2 days before our event, Kelvin totally worked it out for us! EVERYONE raved about the awesome shave ice and loved it! Thank you Tats! Forever grateful

The best shave ice ever. Been eating it since high school days. I normally have half coconut half lychee with double snow cap.

This is my first review of 2026!…read more Tonight I enjoyed the sticky rice with chicken anticucho and it is my favorite meal of 2026 so far. The chicken thighs were beautifully seasoned and slightly charred. The meat was cooked all the way through yet still juicy with bone in thigh. The purple sticky rice was perfectly done and I love the texture of sticky rice in general. The plate also came with sliced cucumbers and pickled mustard greens (reminiscent of Vietnamese pickled mustard greens - but in a much more vibrant green color). My favorite part of the meal was the tart and aromatic sauce that came in the meal. If you're not a fan of lime juice and fish sauce, you may want to use sparingly. However, I was thoroughly enjoying the sauce and when accompanied with a bit of the mustard greens, it toned down the sour aspect of the flavor profile. Overall, so delicious and I would love to find them again and enjoy more of their menu items!

Khao and Papas is one of those…read moreitinerant food trucks with a constantly changing dynamic schedule, popping up in another place almost daily. Using Yelp's Mobile Food Trucks search will identify them but you need to use another app to actually find out where they are. I ran across them on a weekend in my neighborhood and stopped by. The food is a fusion of Peruvian and Laotian by husband-wife team, Juan Ching and Kim Thepsenavong. There is a long history of Japanese cuisine fusing with Peruvian - it's called Nikkei. But other Asian cuisines, especially Southeast Asian, also blend seamlessly with Peruvian staples. Think about the heavy use of pepper and spice in Laotian cuisine. You've been in restaurants where the heat scale is hot, Thai hot, and Laotian hot. Peppers were only introduced into Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Peru is one of the recognized birthplaces of peppers, with over 300 varieties and a 7,500 year history of cultivation. Peruvian Laotian fusion works when you do it right. I had a beef anticuchos skewers plate with Laotian accompaniments. The anticuchos had a nice smokey sweet dark color from aji panca paste. The rice was Laotian, with black and white grains of sticky rice. There was pickled Laotian som pak, a vinegar marinated mustard cabbage. A fine blended salsa-like jeow mak len, full of charred tomato smokiness, savory paedek fish sauce, garlic, shallot, bird's eye chiles, and lime, was terrific on top of the marinated beef. I hope I run into Khao and Papas again one day so I can try their grilled chicken. Until then, I have the memory of a fine take-out plate of Peruvian Laotian fusion comfort food.

They also have packaged snacks they sell too. Greeted immediately by the guys behind the counter, my daughter and I already knew what we wanted, so we got the fried rice adobo, pork adobo and pancit to go. When I say comfort food, after one bite I was brought back to when I was little and my mom making these for us. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their other offerings. It's good to have a Filipino food spot in Kaneohe instead of driving all the way down to the Leeward side. Visit them and try it out for yourselves.

The two workers in the truck are very personable with the "aunties and uncles". They inform each customer about the ten to twelve minute wait-time since each order is made fresh! Because the Pancit was sold out (and the banana lumpia), I ordered the Garlic Rib Eye Steak... whoa... Da buggah was Beeg!!! I couldn't finish it! Made with the "secret special rub", the Garlic chips and onions were Broke da Mouth! The meat was tender and juicy! I enjoyed the koge edges of charred fat! Mmm!
