I read in one of the publications about a Filipino inspired absinthe bar on Bourbon St in N'Awlins (entrance around the corner on Bienville). It was a must visit during my trip to N'Awlins. I had a Pernod absinthe, but I also sampled the longanisa patty sliders and Tatlo's version of pancit. The longanisa was crispy, and nicely seasoned. Likewise, the pancit had moist noodles and a nice flavor. This is bar food, so there wasn't much protein. In addition, I would have liked some lemon to squeeze on top. Tita was a super nice bartender/waitress. A Filipina bartender also stopped by to chat. The remainder of the staff was friendly & warm. Regarding the ambiance, its part of Old Absinthe House. It literally is an old house w/ the restrooms on the third floor. You have to walk up a circular staircase to get up there. Not what I expected for a Bourbon street bar. As a local I rarely ever go on bourbon street. But my friend heard about a bar she wanted to try. I was skeptical but after seeing some pics of the inside I'd decided to venture on over to bourbon street. I'm so glad I did. The experience as Tatlo was like no other place I've ever been. The decor when you walk in was sexy and vampy. There were candles all over the place and it smelled like Palo Santo and Sage (which I love). At one point there was a woman walking around saging the bar. My server (so sorry I can't remember her name) was sooo nice!! She had great recommendations and she checked on us often enough but not too often. At one point she brought us over a bowl of a dried herb with a candle and a marker. We were told to write down something we wanted to manifest and then burn it with a candle. I thought that was so cool. The food and drinks all had spiritual themes. My friend had the bubble bubble toil and trouble drink and that one said it was for protection. It came in a cool glass that she had to blow into to get the color of the drink to be uniform while the drink bubbled. I had the Florida water which was for energy clearing. It was well made. I really enjoyed it. Then I got the zodiaquiri, which I also really liked. For food we tried the special which was a deep fried soft shell crab dish with a creamy pasta. So good!! The crab batter was flavored to perfection. We also got the synergy dish which represented fertility, abundance, and growth. It was chicken adobo arancini. This was really good. The outside was nice and crispy and the inside was moist and flavorful. The last dish we had was Triquetra which were pork ribs meant for spiritual enlightenment. I also really liked this. The sauce was sweet and tangy and the meat was tender. There was a tarot card reader there so I also decided to get my tarot cards read. I've never done that before but it was an awesome experience. When we sat down, our server told us Tatlo is a Filipina witch bar. Say no more, you've got me. The interior of this little spell-binding lair with its darkly-painted walls filled with art paying homage to the Voodoo queens of NOLA and Spanish moss-strewn rafters had me at hello. And then I looked at the little menu of absinthe cocktails and was given spirit cards and I was like, this is my new favorite cocktail bar in the Quarter. Located right next to the Old Absinthe House and next to Patrick's Bar Vin, another favorite, you enter around the corner on Bienville, not Bourbon Street. There was a 45 minute wait, so they took our # to text while we had a drink at Patrick's. Note: make sure they get the right # as we went back to check once an hour had passed and they had apparently tried to text us 15 minutes earlier. No big deal, just something to be aware of. I ordered two cocktails: Hecate's Crossroads, which is a lot like a Death in the Afternoon but with a slight lavender note. Loved the flavor but the absinthe must have been room temperature because the drink was not served icy cold like I prefer with bubby drinks. If I ordered it again, I'd ask for ice. Next I had Florida Water which is a gin drink, served beautifully with a flower. Weirdly enough, I preferred my friends' drinks to mine, especially the Divine Connection because of the blueberry goodness. My husband's Bubble Bubble Toil & Trouble was also delicious. Both of these drinks are served icy and made them a lot lighter then the drinks I ordered. Good to know for next time. I didn't try the food and it looks like there is one vegan item on the menu, Paper Magick. My husband liked his sandwich, the Four of Swords. Not sure if this is somewhere I'd go for a full meal but I'd love to try the rice paper dumplings next time if they are plant-based. Tatlo just left such a great impression, from service to ambiance to drinks. It's a legit holistic experience, as the menu notes that each drink and plate has an intention. read more

Let's start with the good things -- they take reservations, the inside is a vibe, and service was really really sweet. We ended up here as a group of 6 a few minutes before our reservation but they were able to seat us early woohoo! I have no idea if it was just an off night but lord 90% of us really did not like our drinks because they felt...watery and off? Mine was supposed to be a blood orange based item and the orange just tasted bad. The others felt the same way about their drinks too though one person found theirs enjoyable. The food itself was innovative and everyone enjoyed it. Sadly as the vegetarian in the group, I only had one option which was the paper magick. To be fair to the dish, it was tasty but it was essentially a salad accompanied by some tiny mini rice paper rolls. It was tasty but not very filling, particularly not for the price. Overall, this place is a vibe, especially if you're into absinthe. I wouldn't recommend it for their other cocktails though and honestly, would recommend going elsewhere if you're vegetarian or vegan. read more

I've been to Tatlo a handful of times since their soft open this summer in the back of the Absinthe House on Bourbon Street. The chef-proprietor team there includes one of my favorite food purveyors, Christina Quackenbush, and her imprint is all over the decor and menu! The witch-themed lounge with speakeasy vibes is quickly becoming my favorite place to drop in for a pick-me-up. I'm not a super fan of absinthe but the Sacrifice is a palatable cocktail from the absinthe list. I liked the Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble as well, but it was a little messy to mix and sip. I've had several dishes and not been disappointed by any of them. Teach a Girl to Fish was a light but filling entree that left me wanting to sip more broth out of the bowl. The pork ribs are delectable, and a little messy to eat. Get the butter candle noodles! The chicken arancini had a spice that my husband didn't favor, and the serving was a bit small. My dining companion felt the fondue dippers left a bit to be desired, but the cheese itself was perfectly melted and creamy. This is such a cool place and a unique experience! Especially for Halloween season. The staff is so sweet and detailed in explaining the menu and the meaning behind the dishes. Love this place! It has a great dark, moody vibe and just a fun place to hang out at that's just off Bourbon Street. Our server was Melanie. She was very attentive and gave very good recommendations. A friend and I ended up ordering some drinks and we shared a couple of dishes. The triquetra was so delicious. The ribs easily fell off the bone and it was like a flavor party with how the cabbage and mango slaw paired so well with the bbq sauce. The protection noodles were sauced and seasoned well. Pancit noodles are my favorite and I loved how it came with a butter candle. And the added grilled shrimp were cooked to perfection. Tatlo is different. Though it is right off of Bourbon Street, and right behind the Old Absinthe House, it seems like a world away. Dim, cozy, and classy, they say they have a witchy vibe, and I guess that's true. You can have your Tarot cards read, and the food is called "Bewitched Bites." The food is lovely, our favorite being the Protection Noodz, with complex flavors and an edible candle. "Paper Magick" is also a very nice salad with small veggie dumplings. There are absinthe themed drinks as well as other coctails. And prices are reasonable. It might not be for everyone, but if you like it, you really like it. Just had the rudest server. Tall big white girl. She came up to our table and didnt smile or introduce herself. We had questions about the drinks and it seemed like she didnt want to answer. Refuse to serve one of our friends alcohol after we asked multiple reasons why. Very bitchy and would not come here again for our first experience. They assume that they were intoxicated but we asked about the drink menu and what Abstine was. Not very customer service of them. if you love astrology and all wiccan, witchy things, you MUST come here for a date night. they have an astrology-based drink if that tells you anything about this place. so many absinthe options (both local to Louisiana and international). they have blue, white, green, and even red absinthe (red is more new according to our server). our server was knowledgeable about absinthe. got the mata hari, toulouse bleu, and violet crown opal absinthe in a flight. also got the protection noodles which were okay (nothing special, but i was hungry). i thought lighting the butter with fire in the middle of my noodles was cool. will be back! read more

My partner and I were intrigued by this "witchy filipino restaurant " and reserved a table for 2 for dinner. Our server was amazing and had the privilege to meet the chef/owner herself. I asked for some added protein for a non-meat dish and they added it, no questions asked! We got 2 dishes and 2 drinks, an adobo rice ball thing and a noodle dish with a butter candle (sorry forgot the names). Both were yummy. After eating, the chef/owner showed us a filipino manifestation ritual using bayleaves and the candle on our table. We also pulled a few oracles cards which definitely resonated for me. The restaurant's decor was witchy and dark, i love it. Overall, it was a great experience and refreshing to find Filipino food mixed with the occult vibe (two things i'm very into). We had a really frustrating experience here and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. First, the layout of this place is confusing and feels like a setup to force you into buying multiple drinks. You're required to go into the front bar (Old Absinthe House) to get a drink, but if you want food, you have to go around to the back (Tatlo). You're not allowed to bring your drink with you--so if you want to eat, you basically have to buy a second drink once you're seated in the back. When we got to Tatlo, we were seated at the bar right in front of a giant statue, leaving no room to place our drinks or food. We had to wait for someone to leave before we could scoot over just to have enough space. We asked for the same Butterfly Absinthe we had just ordered at the front, and the server told us they "don't have that" and that "it's just the bottle they pour out of." That was honestly sketchy--are they refilling bottles with something else and selling it as the same liquor? It's the same establishment--how does the back not have the same alcohol the front does? We ordered two new drinks (which were okay, but definitely overpriced) and got the "Synergy" dish--an adobo chicken rice ball. It arrived steaming hot on the outside, but when we cut into it, the chicken inside was ice cold. We told our server, who looked disappointed but took it back. They came back and reassured us nothing is ever frozen--if that's true, why was the chicken ice cold? At that point, we had lost our appetite and asked to just cash out. Instead of bringing our check, they said the food was being remade. We reiterated that we didn't want it, and they still refused to give us the bill. After waiting around for 10 minutes, we left cash on the bar and walked out. Overall, the drinks were fine but not worth the price, the food was disappointing (and possibly unsafe), and the service was chaotic. I ended up sick all night. The head bartender is a very talented and created the whole drink menu. She has like 19+ different absinthes at the ready. The owner is also the chef. I only ordered the rice paper wrapped crawfish appetizer, & it was hands down my most favorite meal of my whole visit to New Orleans. Since I'm Gf & Df, my choices on my visit where very slim but here, these dumplings were just sublime. Wish I could have returned. This place is run by women "witches". Just good vibes all around.
