So here is an update. I have eaten here a few more times and was almost ready to bump it up a few stars. I have discovered that the breakfast are actually not that bad - get them with no potato though as they put 75% potato to everything else. So why no star bump. . . Last time i went in i tried the tacos - almost burned to a crisp. Ok, so you pull up and walk in. Immediately you notice that there is way more space than needed and the decor is what you'd expect of a cheap Mexican restaurant that's a "quick bite to eat" kind of place. Not necessarily off-putting by any means and it smelled nice, which is important. This was my first time here and with all the good reviews it got, I was pretty excited. I'm from SoCal and I can assure you that this is NOT SoCal style Mexican food. Or Mexico style Mexican food. I was excited to see un-usual for Denver items such as the tripas tacos and when I mentioned it to my husband, the sweet gal at the counter said "actually we don't have those. I don't know why they are on the menu but we've never even had them". Uh, first red flag? Ok on to what we had and flavors and such- My husband had the Machaca breakfast burrito. It was delicious! The beef was tender and juicy and the tortilla-oh my! Soft and chewy and just yum. I had the Chilaquiles. They were basically old tortilla chips covered in a red chile sauce that still had tomato chunks in it and a dob of sour cream on top. It came with rice and beans....not home made. At least it didn't taste that way. This traditional Mexican dish should be a little spicy, you should be able to taste the chiles that they made the sauce with, and dried tortillas should be simmered in said sauce with onions, garlic and the like. It should be topped with queso fresco and garnished with cilantro. I didn't get any of that. I've definitely had way better chilaquiles from a food truck in Mexico and San Diego. If I end up going back here, I'll most likely stick to the burritos. The 4 and 5 star reviews for "real SoCal style" mexican food - uh. what? Its not even close folks...not even close. read more

I love Tata'a! Everything is so authentic which I have struggled to find in the area, and it is always great when I can support a small business. Everything I have had from this place has been delicious from their homemade tortilla chips to their carne asada in anything you get. Me personally, I love the quesadillas and tacos but you can't go wrong with a beef and bean burrito. I usually come to this place one or two times every few weeks, i always get the carne asada fries which never disappoint, today wasn't that great, the employee didn't give me my chili, the potatoes were pretty undercooked, there wasn't as much flavor either. Southern Cali Fast Food Mexican Food - Robertos Like!! If you love So Cal Mexican food, you will love this place. The carne asada nachos are like I remember. I am not a big fan of the Mexican food restaurants around here but I love Tatas! The Hot Sauces are exactly like what I was used to also. Andre, the owner, is a really nice hard working family man. I think people don't give this place a chance because the building and surrounding landscaping is a bit run down. They should spend some capital fixing up the place and cleaning up the landscaping. After a long work week all you want to do is get something to-go and you're out of time, and don't want to spend a lot of money. Tata's has the tasty's Chicken Chimichanga and Breakfast Burrito's at reasonable prices. At every visit you're greeted very kindly. It's not the fastest drive-thru in town, because the food is made to order. Our bags are always packed with lots of sauce, not salsa. I wish they did offer Salsa. My wife ordered a taco and enchilada plate, I ordered the carne asada fries and a bacon breakfast burrito. The food has ZERO FLAVOR. Nothing has any type of seasoning, no salt, no pepper, just thrown together and insanely bland. The carne asada fries were definitely the most disappointing. Bland fries with bland meat, this place is awful. Try Guadalajara on Abilene St in Aurora, fantastic food and great service for a fair price. Not even a kids menu for children, makes no sense. For the value alone...you are getting bang for your buck with the size of the burritos. These may not be the absolute best burritos in the world but they taste great with a warm cup of coffee and are always warm. The soda from the 90's have change into a watered down less frizzy formula we have today. But this place has soda that is as acidic as it was in the 90's....which in my opinion is rare and noteworthy. When we told the young lady at the window we needed three not two she rolled her eyes and shut the window on us. She went to the back and got another lady who came to the front! She was also so rude. Just tried their drive through and ordered a green chili smothered bean and cheese burrito and beef taco. I will definitely be back. In fact, we're thinking we'll try their breakfast burritos in the morning . I played it safe as I hadn't eaten here before but everything was really good, especially the burrito. The tortillas are homemade and the green chili is spicy and on point. Not to mention that my meal was only around $6 with huge portions! Stopped by on a saturday about 3pm Service was fast but they were out of menus. it would be great if they posted their menu online, we will try again next week, But we got the Chips and Guacamole and it was really fresh. Home Made chips that were still warm. The guac was great some of the best i have ever tried. Bean and cheese burritos were really nice the beans tasted fresh and delicious and the green chili was nice and spicy with a great flavor. Chili Reno was pretty good the red sauce was great the chilli itself was a little tough best incredible badder but the chilli i couldnt cut it with a plastic fork, next time we will get it to go. this place is the best! i used to live in phoenix, arizona and there was a small burrito place that was absolutely amazing. of course since it was arizona, mexican food was phenomenal because it was closer to the border. however, ever since moving to colorado i've been dying to find a similar burrito place. 8 years later, i found tata's. the secret to their burritos is they don't overfill them with rice & beans & cheese. they put in carne asada (if you get the carne asada burrito), guacamole, pico de gallo, & they finish it off wrapped in the most delicious charred tortillas. 6 bucks for a burrito is impeccable if you ask me. especially when they taste like they do. if i could give it a 100/5, i would. eat here! Food is reasonably priced for its quality and portions But if you use the the drive-thru check you order. There is always something missing! Even if you ask if something specific is in there (because they have forgotten that item 3 times before) and they "promise" it is. IT WILL BE MISSING FROM YOUR ORDER! San Diego boy born and raised. I have lived in Denver for 10 years and been all over the place looking for a taste of home. I have finally found it. None of that smothering BS, the tortillas and carne are on point. I cannot say enough about this place. If you are from SoCal you would probably rate this place a C+ or B-. In further knowledge of trying more things, I understand now certain items on menu (or even days) can lead to kind of a hit or miss experience. Went there today and they said they have no pork today... what?? That takes away options of about half the menu-thats pretty crappy. The consistency is also all over the place. I like certain things on the menu enough (like the crunchy ground beef tacos) to go back on the good days because whoever is cooking the food is doing it the way I prefer it.
