The meats were all excellent, flavorful, tender, and well seasoned. The sauces were standout as well, fresh, balanced, and with just the right amount of kick. It is a cute, locally owned spot, and you can tell they care about what they are doing. An acquaintance told me about Taco Star so I decided to check it out. It is located on a neighborhood gas station/convenient store. The mini restaurant is clean and has a few tables. The teenager that took my order was really nice. He was very patient with me while I searched the menu for what I wanted. There is one cook. The food was ok. I got the three tacos with rice and no beans. I asked if I could substitute more rice for the beans, my request was granted. I chose the pollo, al pastor, and asada. The tacos didn't have the flavor I was looking. The tacos were big and came with a really good amount of meat. The red salsa was mild. The prices are really good for what you get. Do not go here! The customer service is absolutely horrible. They completely messed up my order, and instead of apologizing and making it right, the staff actually argued with me about their own mistake. When I calmly asked how they could fix the situation, they dismissed me entirely and said, "There's nothing we can do about it." To make matters worse, it became glaringly obvious that customers of different racial backgrounds were being treated with patience, respect, and hospitality, while my concerns were met with immediate hostility and dismissal. There is a deeply unsettling undertone of racial bias in how this establishment chooses who deserves good service and who gets mistreated. I'm always on the lookout for Mexican food restaurants in SE Aurora. You always have to travel far to get that authentic taste, and the ones that are in the area or relatively close, I've been to several times. I didn't even know Mr. Taco existed, I happened to stumble upon them during a Google search, and the next day I gave them a shot and was pretty impressed. Bacon breakfast burrito (they don't add cheese, you have to ask for it) and it comes with beans inside, which was a welcome surprise. Bacon, potatoes, green chili, eggs, cheese, and a fresh tortilla? YES PLEASE! The team working that day was super friendly, the food was good, and without question a place I would come back to to try a breakfast burrito and other things on their menu! Great friendly service, this hidden gem is located at the 1 stop gas station, convenience store & Uhaul. In the small shopping area where there's an Autowash. It's been forever since I went here but I needed to pick up some boxes and fill up gas after washing my truck. They charge almost $3 per taco which is taking huge advantage of stupid gringas or gringos. I feel like they get away with it since not many options in good old Aurora Colorado. My problem wasn't really the price per taco, it was after I paid $57 and some change; I saw $12 for 3 tacos and rice and beans. Basically a normal person taking your order would say "do you want the plate instead"? Ya, no they want to take full advantage and customer service has gone completely down the drain. This is in a freaking gas station pick up food spot for heavens sake! Not a Mexican restaurant. They are robbing people blindly. I miss the old Mexican place that was here prior. This place is a joke and dirty as hell, I plan on contacting the health department to take a look at there food storage and food handling . This area is so under-served when it comes to good food. If another bland ass chicken joint pops up around here I am moving! But I digress; Mr. Taco is a spot you need to try asap. From the friendly service to a great menu, this place delivers the goods. I stopped by to get burritos for my kids. When I got home they were so thankful for good tasting food. Just found this place a week ago and I assume I met the owner that day, a hispanic Male that told me about his business. Very personable guy, which led me into looking for a catering event coming up as well. I've been back 3 more times within the week to get breakfast burritos and try other items on their menu. Food is pretty good, but ran into an issue this morning when I realized I was overcharged. I ordered 2 breakfast burritos ($7 each, $14 total) and I ordered 4 salsa to go with them, whihc I later found out that they only come with one per burrito and extras are $.50 each. Noi problem, cost me an extra dollar. So total is $15. The ampunt charged to my card was $16.84. I questioned the lady that took my order and collected payment on what tax rate they were charging. She was annoyed by my inquiry, even though there was nobody else in there while I was waiting. I told her Aurora tax rate was 8%, then she quickly said it wasn't Aurora, it was Centennial and thought tax rate was like 8.3%. I later looked up Centennial tax rate and it is lower, at 6.75% which is even a bigger issue. I showed her that a total of a $15 order shouldn't have $1.84 tax on it. The tax rate came up to 12.5% that was charged. She argued that the tax is programmed into the machine and that I was wrong. I told her the machine is wrong and she should have it looked at, and she told me that I was wrong but wouldn't provide me a receipt showing any charges. She then said there is a $.10 charge for the small paper bag, but that doesn't affect the tax rate hardly at all. Really sucks because I liked their food but will not support a company that overcharges their customers and will not look into an obvious overcharge. Is it a big deal, maybe not to some but for me it is a red flag and ethical. I'd be happy to discuss this with the male subject that I first met, but there is not an email address anywhere on their website to contact them. Contact me and I am happy to remove the bad review if you fix the problem and explain to me how you came up with the amount you charged me. Otherwise, you get what you deserve if you cannot back up your charges and I will not return. I'm all for small businesses, but when there is a problem you need to figure it out and be fair instead of rudely tell the customer they are wrong without supplying any proof for the charges.
