The menu is small and the fish options are regularly changing and updating as to what is fresh catch that day. This meal was for my girlfriends birthday and I had popped in a few days before to book the table and to ask if I could arrange for a birthday 'token' for the girlfriend. I had a cake with a candle in mind but Daniel, head waiter and son of the Chef arranged for some fresh flowers to be set on the table as we arrived - a fantastic touch and one greatly appreciated! On to the food! My girlfriend and I both fancied Seabass so we opted for the large fish to share, this came with potatoes and fresh vegetables. The best part is that they come and Fillet the fish right in front of your eyes. Daniel, head waiter, used just a fork and a spoon to perfectly remove the fish of all bones and place some fantastic Seabass on our plates. Perhaps one of the higher end places in Burgau but most definitely worth the money. Bread starter, Fish dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine set us back €63 euros. €63 euros well spent.

Alas, here I am. I've been visiting Burgau since I was 2 years old and have been every year since then (twice on most occasions), and despite loving everything about the place - the Beach Bar is just something else. You'll see from the pictures that it's set in a beautiful place, in a beautiful little village on the coast of the Algarve and, as you could guess, right on the beach. The bar itself serves several purposes; during the day it houses beach goers looking for a nice lunch, and ice cream or evening a midday jug of sangria, and by night it's a beautifully decorated restaurant serving some of the freshest seafood in Portugal! My personal favourite here is the Swordfish steak, served with fresh salad and your choice of potatoes, I enjoy it that much I refuse to have Swordfish anywhere else! The king prawns are another big hit here, as is the Piri-piri Chicken! Family owned and operated (by an English/Portuguese family) for it's entirety, the Beach Bar seemingly has the wooing effect on anyone that passes by. Friends families and complete strangest are all caught up in the nostalgia of this place and you're often rubbing shoulders with some celebs that have houses nearby - Ian Rush & Michael Owen to name a couple! It's a big ask to tell someone to book an entire holiday based on one place, however I wholeheartedly believe you'd fall in love with this place (and I don't even know who 'you' are). We had the seabass for two and it was very tasty. It is a little pricier than other restaurants but that may be because they are right next to the beach. Service was just ok and the parking here is a serious nightmare. The road down to the restaurant is only big enough for one car so you are left hoping and praying there isn't another car coming in the opposite direction. Although there is a small parking area next to the restaurant these are taken up by the beach goers. Not a fun experience getting here. I won't be back.

The expertly sliced bellota with three cheeses, and a nice older red wine from Colinas were excellent together. We also had great batatas bravas and some nice mushroom and cheese phyllo cigars. The service was perfect. We ate outside and there happened to be a nice band playing down the road. Made for an exceptional evening! The chef came out for a nice conversation at the end.
