As we were wondering around Lagos we saw a line of people that look like locals waiting for the business to be open before 5 pm and decided to join and dine there, it was the most delicious meal we had in Lagos. Portions were big and the food was absolutely espectacular. Service was so good from the beginning, make sure you do reservations we just happened to be on the right place and the right time.

Cataplana Mista (shrimp and clam)

Our favorite meal from our trip to Portugal! This place is a must if you're in Lagos, get there early and be ready for a wait but it is so worth it. The Cataplana is so incredibly delicious, come hungry because this meal is HUGE for two people!

One of my best meals in Portugal! Everything was delicious - you could taste the love that goes into each dish. The prawns a casinha have a curry tasting sauce that was so good. The cataplana a casinha is the perfect creamy stew that includes pork, prawns and clams. Highly recommend!

The best cataplana in the world! The most delicious fish stew you can imagine. Luckily we reserved upfront. Otherwise, the waiting time/list could be long... It was so extremely delicious that we also reserved for the day after. This time I took the cataplana with prawns. OMG!!! I ate arguably the best meal of my life at Casinha do Petisco. Catinha do Petisco is a family run restaurant, 28 years now. Father is the chef, and mom, son and girlfriend are serving customers. So friendly! Can't miss this one when you're in Lagos or the Algarve. Worthy! Only cash payments are accepted.

We didn't make a reservation in advance and had to wait almost 2 hours (if not more) for a table. Right when we were giving up hope our name was called and I'm so thankful we stuck it out. With two weeks in Portugal this restaurant immediately became my number one dining experience. Our server was amazing and had such a positive charming personality despite the restaurant being incredibly busy. The fish was delicious and the stews are really the star of the show! Unfortunately I don't eat shellfish but I did taste the sauce from my friends plate and it was amazing. Definitely recommend getting a reservation a few days in advance.

Garlic prawns. Definitely enough for 3 people.

Great food! Great service. I'd advise you to get there around 6 and put your name down. It is a small restaurant and the wait is long. I wish they served prawns with no heads. That is my only complaint. Highly recommend!

Great little place ( very little, 28 seats total that they make work)! There's a reason people wait in line and we almost gave up but happy we didn't. If you can make a reservation as far in advance as possible, do so but don't expect to be seated on time. Be patient as they are at the mercy of diners that linger. Same goes for walk-ups. We only waited for 40 mins and many tried to step in front of us. Don't be intimidated. We did a catalana with clams, shrimp and pork that was amazing! Says it's for 2 but 3-4 can easily share. All portions are HUGE! Surprisingly good wine selection. Beer available and I believe liquor, too. Strong recommendation but make sure you bring cash. No credit cards accepted. ATM is a block down the street, though!

Seafood cataplana

This place requires a reservation at least a couple days in advance, and it is WORTH scheduling in advance (if you're in the area)!! Loved their specialty, the cataplana. Virtually everyone in the restaurant will have this dish on their table. It did not disappoint with a great variety of seafood and pork. It comes served with rice and potatoes to sop up all that sauce, but isn't so strong in flavour that you NEED the rice/potatoes to enjoy it. It's a well-balanced dish regardless of how much carb you consume. But a little secret? Their Portuguese steak was even BETTER than the cataplana! It was incredibly moist with the most amazing sauce. We couldn't get enough (and also couldn't quite pin down what ingredients went into it). Our server gave the most excited reaction to this order and guided us on an appropriate amount for three people (particularly because we were going to order too much food!). I appreciate good service that puts the customer first.

Excellent! One of the best restaurants in Lagos. The place is always packed and there is about a two hour wait but definitely worth it.

After being seated, we ordered a basket of bread, chorizo, mussels, and fish. The chorizo came out in flames, and we weren't sure when to blow it out lol. The food was pretty good, but not as amazing as I was expecting since it was in the Michelin Guide. We decided to get a slice chocolate cake at the end of our meal, which came with a small scoop of gelato. The dessert was delicious and not too sweet!

Ordered several dishes such as the sea scallop au gratin, cod carpaccio with red berries vinaigrette and pomegranate, clams and shrimps in the "Cataplana" along with lamb carre in port wine reduction with sautéed vegetables. Delicious. Everything was so delicious! I do have say my favorite was the sea scallop au gratin and lamb carre! Of course with the addition of splitting a small bottle of green wine! Cost: Definitely a little on the pricier side in comparison to the places around the area and even in the region but still worth it for the quality of the food that you're getting! Environment: Very big restaurant, at least from the outside! Didn't make any reservation and it seemed that a lot of the tables had the reservation sign on it and upon arriving, our waiter did have the face of 'hm....where can I seat them' look haha Service: Arrived when it didn't seem too busy (even though the tables all had reservation signs) and so service was fairly normal. Uniqueness: Great establishment with tons of dishes to try, especially if you want to splurge a little!

We took our waiter's recommendation to add the bread to soak up the sauce from garlic shrimp... outstanding. We like the sauce in the octopus carpaccio but I think it can be improved by using larger octopus cubes instead of thin slices (of course it would no longer be "carpaccio"). Per my personal opinion, the octopus didn't add texture nor flavor to the dish. Our waiter Rubio is super friendly. He gave us recommendation for the location to see "the best sunset in the world". Even though it was a cloudy evening, it was still quite spectacular sunset view.

The chef of this establishment has an excellent vision and it is obvious he knows flavor profiles well, because the combinations made were excellent. They had a menu for Easter that included a soup that was with leeks and green apples that was something I would never think of linking together yet worked so well!! It was really surprising and impressive. They also ran out of one of their staples on the menu, which was a mushroom dish and the chef improvised and made instead a grilled celery root "steak" of a piece of celery o didn't even know was edible!! The texture and flavor was soooo good! So I learned something new too! As far as our starter, we had their house suggestion which consisted of a butter infused with orange and honey that was to die for. It also included a chicken salad that was something light but super tasty and a tuna (they call it pate-we call it salad) that my son couldn't stop eating and was begging for more! Our Main dishes were the pork belly, (which I have never had a better one anywhere in my life), my son had the black linguini with seafood (that was packed with amazing seafood) and my husband had the cod fish with mashed potatoes. My mother in law had the grilled celery root steak. Unfortunately I couldn't try, my sons because I'm allergic to shellfish, but everyone else at the table tried it and said it was amazing. I tried just my husband mashed potatoes and they were better than my own mashed potatoes and everyone that's tried my taters say they're the best-so props to the chef again!! We paired our meal with an excellent wine and the staff suggested another wine to us too for our next visit or to purchase elsewhere. We orders Fabios suggestion of the pork belly, cod and black linguini and couldn't have been happier with what was offered. The restaurant was very cosy in design and we don't feel rushed. Unfortunately, we made a reservation last minute and there was only one table available left for that night which was by the front door, which wasn't the best seating because our party of 4-two sat looking out to the restaurant and street and two at their fridge with aged meat and bar, so 2 people didn't have the best view. So I felt bad for my husband and MIL, but my husband was made aware of this when we made the reservation. What was weird was that our reservation was at 7:30-we arrived at 7:15 and left at 9:30 and the two tables that sat 4 people had a reservation sign on them by the big windows looking outside, but no one sat there the entire time we were there. I wish we could have sat there instead. Maybe next time.
