A lovely family restaurant with the kindest family. Coming here in late October, it's a little less busy so we were able to slip in for dinner around 8pm without issue. We started with the family lemonade which was so refreshing and had lots of fresh citrus in it. We felt like we were at a family dinner here with how welcoming it was. We got the Sevilla style squid which was ok, the piri piri helped add flavor. The prawns were plump and flavorful in a nice sauce that we used our garlic bread to sop up the flavors. The sea bream was such a nice and light flavor. Crisp on the outside but soft and meaty inside with fries nicely seasoned and cooked. We did not have the chance to dine because we were literally yelled at by the door. The restaurant was opened as per yelp. The was also opened but ajar. We entered. It was empty so we politely asked if the restaurant was opened and the guy who was sitting on the table (the owner or manager) rudely told us NO NO NO and waved us away. The worst food of our entire trip. We ordered bread which was simply sliced white bread from a loaf. The shrimp was mushy and over cooked. The steak tasted like charcoal. The steak was so bad we didn't even eat more than two bites. When we sent it back they still charged us 19 euro for it. Do not recommend! We literally had to go find another dinner at another restaurant after throwing away money here. read more

This is a reasonably priced restaurant, simple, and non flashy-meal down to the checkered tablecloths. It almost feels like a sports bar with the interior dominated by a large screen tv and cigarette vending machine. I had the vegetable soup and grilled sardines. The fish needed some acid to cut the flavor. It was dominated by rock salt. I would have asked for more lemon, but the waiters were like rAce car drivers zipping by. If you want a basic budget friendly seafood meal this might be the spot. I should mention that it is across the street from an urgent care center and it is sometimes odd to look up from your meal to see someone being admitted or discharged. read more

We have tried other restaurants in Lagos and this is hands down our favorite go to. The staff is so friendly and it's family owned. They are very accommodating. To start, the family lemonade is a must try. There is a lot of fruit and is very delicious(no alcohol though) Another must try is the garlic bread and clams in butter for an appetizer. We have also tried the squid in tomato sauce, stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers and the chicken salad. Hidden in a narrow alley, thus restaurant has allot to offer. It specializes in seafood. We first wanted the Paella, but this dish needs to be ordered 4 hours in advance. The waitress noticed our disappointment and suggested a traditional dish called Arroz Polvo (dish for 2 people), basecally a mix of rice, seafood, octopus, etc. Cooked in their version of a crookpot. It was excellent. The portion is huge, it would be enough for a family of 4. I suggest you try out the restaurant, if you visiting Lagos. read more

The place is run by a family which is always a plus. Really really good food. I had the prawns and stuffed capsicum and it was AMAZING. The waiters were very nice and the service was great. Also prices were dirt cheap so really couldn't of asked for a better dinner spot. For dessert I had this cookies and cream type thing which was amazing. We have been eating here twice. The second time is so disappointing. First time waiter from India is so nice,brought our children blankets when we are waiting for table inside.(cold in June)We ordered mussels,shrimps and rabbit. As a Asian, I don't like the Indian rice in rabbit. Except for this,everything is perfect. We paid 4euro as tip. The other waiter is the owner's son. He introduced all food is cooked by his mum. And he recommend hard their seafood rice. And we decided to come here second time one day later. We had clams,squids in tomato sauce which turned out to be not fresh and too small. My partner doesn't want to finish eating.Pork and clams: pork is also not fresh, with pickled cabbage which waiter said should be salad. Spaghetti Bolognese is really bad, three of us tried we all think it is really not good. Actually it was a wrong order by waiter. We accepted one,but no one knows it is so bad. Even worse than the one is Asia... When we paid the bill, we ordered 2 plain bread. But they charged 4 quantities. Restaurant explained they always serve 2potion as for two people. It is really a cheat I have to say. They neither write in menu nor let us know. Even thought one bread is just 0.7euro, I think it is only about honest. Or this is a common practice in Portugal. We are disappointed and won't come for third time. And we can not recommend to others. read more

We had it recommended by someone we met on a catamaran tour earlier that week and would not have found it otherwise. My wife and I were recommended this restaurant by our friends Colin & Jenny who lived in the Algarve for years. In fact they had their leaving party here when they moved back to the UK. So on our first visit to Portugal we had to try it out. Me being me decided to look at Trip Advisor first and noticed some negative comments so was a little dubious. The end result of the visit is the title of this review. Is the service super fast? No but it ISN'T a fast food chain! To sit and chat waiting for fresh food, cooked to order is a luxury and not a problem! I had sardines and my wife had mussels - the quality of both signalled by the lack of conversation for the first few minutes as we were too busy enjoying the food. The menu (if you choose to eat local food as opposed to something with chips) is really very good. Any basic dish has to carry itself on quality and not quantity and this just has quality in heaps. The fact that my wife and I were the only diners who were not Portuguese also speaks for itself - this is where locals eat and in my mind the best places to go. The staff work hard, are busy but never forget to smile - and yes if you have no Portuguese they speak English but an Obrigado/a never hurt any one. Please try this place out. A real family run restaurant serving great food at really good prices and giving you a chance to experience a true bit of Portugal. How good? Stop reading reviews and go to Ala do Castelo if you want a casual, inexpensive, but excellent meal with great service. This is a Ukrainian family with the mother cooking in the kitchen and the sons running the front of the house. They've lived here for many years so the Portuguese dishes are all delicious and authentic, but there are also a few Ukrainian items like the stuffed cabbage which is excellent. Mussels and grilled Sardines are the best we had in Portugal. read more
