The absolute most gorgeous restaurant. Right above the Praia do Camilo, which provides truly breathtaking views (and a great opportunity to take photos). The food is equally stunning! Everything we ordered was a hit, even among those that are more new to seafood and more hesitant to try! Octopus with clams: 12/10, so perfectly cooked and delicious Beef steak with pepper sauce: 13/10, we weren't sure if we were actually given the beef steak with mushroom sauce but whichever it was, we thoroughly enjoyed! It was cooked exactly as we ordered it and the sauce was delicious. Grilled Gold Bream: 13/10, also so perfectly cooked, and our server expertly deboned it for us which was kind and helpful. Tiramisu: 10/10, a classic and delicious! Our server in general was funny and kind and we really appreciated him for making the night that much more wonderful. read more

Wow, was met by such a rude male host. A few people in line couldn't believe his comments to me, a derogatory comment to me because I was on vacation from the United States. This was probably one of my favorite restaurants in portgual. Almost everything was good(except the chicken). Our waitress was superb as well. TIP: do yourself a favor and make reservations. Place is popular! We came around 430pm one day without reservations on a Sunday, and they said it may be like a 2 hr wait. We decided to make dinner reservations for a different day instead. So we made resos for Tuesday evening around 730pm. Tueaday we decided to come a bit earlier, around 6pm cuz we had just come up from the beach right downstairs, and we didn't wanna go home, and then come back again. At 6pm, they already had our table waiting for us so that was nice. We were seated immediately. They have a table up front of the restaurant that showcases the day's catch, which included lots of different fish, seafood, barnacles, shrimps, etc. I came with 3 other girls and shared everything. We asked them to bring the appetizer and entrees out slowly so that we wouldn't be overwhelmed with everything coming out at once. I definitely recommend asking them to do this! That way, you can take your time enjoying each and every dish and not have to worry about it getting cold. First, we had the FISH SOUP. Amazing flavor. The waitress said we can order 4 half bowls! Basically, instead of 4 girls sharing 2 bowls, they gave each girl their own bowl with half a serving. How awesome is that.it's actually a good amount of soup to share. I highly recommend everyone to try it. It was delicious. Scarlet shrimp-so so so good as well. We ordered 2 whole shrimps to share amongst 4 of us. Each shrimp is pretty big and they cut each shrimp in half. Eating only half a shrimp was actually a decent size to try. A whole shrimp for yourself sounds pretty good too lol. Depends on your budget. They're flavored really nicely. Barnacles-interesting. Tasted kind of like snails. I actually quite enjoyed it.this is the first time I've tried it. The waitress taught us how to eat it. Don't remmeber how much we ordered though. She recommended us a weight and we just went with her suggestion. Octopus with clams-amazing. The octopus was grilled excellently. Not too charred or burnt. It was perfect! Tasted exceptional as well. Tasted better than when I was in Greece! Fried calamari-pretty good. Crispy. Grilled fish-i don't remmeber which fish we had. But it was good. Chicken- meh. This was a pretty dosappointing dish compared to everything else we had. A bit dry, and flavor wasn't that great. This place is wonderful in food quality and location with a view. We were lucky to get a reservation for 9:45pm the same night and appreciated it. We had a bumpy start with lunch somewhere else that lacked the local seafood flavor but Camilo doesn't disappoint. The tiger prawns were delicious and flavorful from the grill. The gold sea bream was also delightful and we appreciated the staff deboning it for us. I recommend sitting outside if you overheat in summer. They have blankets! read more

Outstanding food, excellent service, and wonderful views! I was hesitant to dine here, as any restaurant at the top of the stairs to the most popular beach in the Algarve must surely be a tourist trap, but I was so wrong. Came for lunch at 1pm, and was seated inside immediately. Happy to be inside to avoid the sun, but still had wonderful views of the ocean below. Service was excellent, from a team of 3-4 waiters, all of whom spoke charming and excellent English. Display of fresh seafood that was "off" the menu was staggering, from the razor clams and barnacles, to the Scarlett and Tiger prawns that were almost the size of lobsters. Had two grilled Scarlett Prawns for appetizer, then we shared the garlic grilled baby calamari (wonderfully tender and flavorful), and the grilled sardines (a bit bony, but excellent flavor once you get the hand of it), plus sides of french fries and roasted vegetables. Everything was wonderful, and the prices were very fair, which was the biggest surprise given the location of this charming seafood gem at the head of Praia de Pinheiros. O Camilo is a really nice restaurant off Praia do Camilo (Camilo beach). They have a nice outdoor space. Some sheltered from wind, some not. You can view the water from the patio and even from the inside of the restaurant. It was really nice. Service was very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. I had octopus and prawns. Very filling with the Couvert too. I would highly recommend this place for good wine, seafood, and a great view. read more

Spectacular location, decent service, reasonably priced and a nice comfortable indoor or outdoor terrace. Food, however, was on the bland side. We had the couvert to start which was pretty standard. Home made fish paste and nice bread with cream cheese and speciality butters were very good. I ordered mackerel for main with fries on the side. The fries were good, the fish meh. There was nothing wrong with it but it lacked flavour and texture, almost as if it had been frozen which, in fairness, is very unlikely. My companion had bream and, again, judged to be ok but not particularly memorable. Her sides of boiled potatoes and veg looked sad and overcooked although the side salad she'd ordered was pretty good. Side note: my companion had asked for the side salad instead of the veg but that wasn't allowed. The veg went back untouched. A bottle of Vila Alvor white and a couple of margaritas rounded out an adequate if not excellent meal. I would come back but not in any great hurry. read more

As the other reviews will mention, it's hard to beat the view at this Scandinavian-style restaurant on top of a cliff overlooking the sea. It's a essentially a glass box filled with seafood and happy travelers. What to expect? Our experience consisted of olives (complimentary and delicious), veggie soup, omelette and salad (very popular in Portugal - or, at least in the south), beautiful views and clean bathrooms. Note that Restaurante O Camilo is walking distance (15 minutes) from town. Service is sporadic but thats the norm in Europe. Less is more, right? Another amazing restaurant in Lagos, Portugal. We had heard about this place through multiple travel sites and decided to stop off for lunch while walking back from the Ponta da Piedade - viewpoint south of the City Center. From the road, it is a very unassuming place. The side road leading to the restaurant and the nearby beach is essentially a one lane street. Parking is along the sides and there is a small parking lot at the end located across from the restaurant. Lunch starts at noon but we were early so they let us sit and have drinks while waiting. The beer was cold and crisp, quite refreshing. My daughter had the grilled bone-in pork chop which came with a fried egg with a deep orange yolk. The chops were juicy, tender, and just perfectly seasoned with a little salt. She liked it so much that she eventually just picked up the bone and started gnawing it clean. My son had a craving for a hamburger and so he ordered the breadless burger. He wasn't willing to share (common theme in my reviews) and polished it off saying it was really good. My wife ordered the clams which were also quite good with a super tasty briny broth, perfect for dipping bread. I had the best dish by family vote - chicken in a tomato base broth. It comes with about a 1/2 chicken that was been cooked in the broth until fork tender. The waiter also provided a bottle of their home made piri-piri sauce which was just spicy enough for me to feel it but also so full of complex flavors. The dish was amazing. We had a table inside but against the window looking out over the ocean. What an amazing view. Staff were super nice and attentive. Overall, highly recommend this restaurant. Definitely worth making the trip and either make a reservation or show up when it opens. When we finished around 1pm, there was a line of about 10 to 15 people. read more

Great views and good food for a decent price. The building looks like it was made by Ikea and doesn't really fit in with the rest of the architecture we saw, but the partially-enclosed deck means that the temperature for the outside seating isn't too affected by the sea breeze. We visited on a Sunday during the shoulder season for lunch and had no trouble getting seated, but it isn't that large a restaurant, so during the busy season reservations are probably a good idea. They have a handful of items on the menu that you would need to order a day beforehand, presumably because they take longer to prepare, and while we didn't try any, they sounded good. Our shrimp (with garlic that was so good it was almost sweet) and pork were both good, and the service was perfectly fine. Parking during the busy season would be tough; there is a small lot and a narrow road you could park along, but they are shared with a fantastic secret beach (take the steps down the cliff in front of the restaurant) so parking is tight. read more

We had asked our hotel to make the reservation (a must for this spot, I think) and to place an order for the salt encrusted fish, and seafood rice- look to the restaurant web site for dishes that must be preordered. Once we arrived, we discovered that the food order had not been placed,fortunately for us someone who had ordered one of the dishes had canceled and we had a leisurely meal while waiting for the other dish to be prepared. Five stars for ambiance! This location is beautiful, semi-secluded, modern, romantic, classy. Drive down the road for a pre- or- post dinner stroll on the boardwalk overlooking the ocean! As a visitor from abroad, I was particularly preoccupied with attire for the restaurant. I ended up dressing very casually, which thankfully is what most other guests were dressed like as well. In fact someone rolled in shortly after us with full-on hiking gear, Camelbak and all! needless to say, it's a very classy restaurant with regard to decor but don't feel the need to be over the top with attire. Jeans and a nice top will do. Now for the important part- the food! We ordered a bottle of local white wine, clams for a starter, fried calamari, and a local fish called sea bream. The meal was expensive for what it was. Prices comparable to what I'd pay in a land locked area in the US! Presumably these items are much more fresh. The flavor was okay. The clams were good, the calamari was not that great, and the fish was okay. The mains come with vegetables and boiled potatoes, or rice, or French fries. The portions are perfect. Normally this much food for two of us would be too much, but it ended up being perfect! Overall, I was expecting more for how fresh the seafood should be, but it is a beautiful location. read more

The highlight of this restaurant is the location. It's right in front of the steps heading to Praia do camilo. The view is fantastic! My husband made reservations for 1pm, we arrived right on time and they seated us immediately. The wait staff was very attentive and spoke English very well. We ordered the starter which comes in large or small. The small was perfect for two. The octopus was the highlight of the starter app for me. The fish was pretty typical of Portugal, salted and grilled. It was moist and delicious. My husband got the swordfish fillet, it was like an ocean steak, meaty and topped with sauteed onions. The sides were also pretty typical boiled potatoes and veggies. Definitely a romantic lunch or dinner spot. They are somewhere between lobster and a clam as far as taste (100-150 grams per person for an appetizer). They are also a Portuguese delicacy. Try them for sure. Everything was very fresh. I'm skeptical of any restaurant with a beach-front location. Experience has taught me that you pay more for views than quality food, but O Camilo proved me so wrong! Named for it's location on the bluffs above Priai Camilo (one of the loveliest hidden beaches in Lagos), the building is mostly glass so whether you're inside or outside on the patio you'll enjoy the ocean views with your Portguese wines and freshly-caught fish. We made a reservation for dinner (recommended) and were thrilled with the fish, wines, desserts, and service. There's a big case of fish at the front of the restaurant so you can see you're eating fresh catches vs. frozen goods. Wines are available by the half and full bottle, great for date night. We noticed lots of Portugese-speaking locals here, which reassured us that this is a legit spot for food, with views as a mere bonus. I can heartily recommend! read more

I arrived with a reservation for 8, if I recall. That seems like an appropriate time, but Portugal is very different when it comes to time. It's far more fluid than most other places I have been. I once felt I had to ask if it was OK to come in for lunch at a restaurant in LIsbon at half 1(1:30PM). The reason I mention this is the restaurant was half empty and the service was very slow. That's OK, I didn't come to Portugal to speed eat. The food was lovely. The people were pleasant. It's quiet. The prices are ridiculously cheap, as is the wine. Order a bottle. And the view is nice. I asked again to clarify with the explanation that I'm from America and we adjectives to describe what kind of melon it is such as watermelon or honeydew. Her response is that in Portuguese it's called a melon so it's a melon in the smoothie. I ended up ordering another drink because I didn't want to deal. Yeah, the view might be nice here but there's other places with better views without the bitter melon of a service! Located on Camilo Beach, this restaurant is definitely worth the visit! My boyfriend and I went around 8 pm on a Wednesday night without a reservation. We were met by the host, who seemed a little unfriendly at first, and had to wait for 15 minutes for our table. Aside from that, our experience was a great one! The view was amazing, the wait staff was friendly and personable, and the food was spectacular! Also, the wine list was extensive, so there is always a perfect option to satisfy your taste! Unfortunately they were out of both the wine and the dessert I selected. The prices are slightly high but the food is worth it. I had mushroom sauce over steak and it was very tasty. Also had the fries which were delicious. We also had the Sea bream which was very good. Excellent veggies cooked just right. Dessert was called orange tart which was beautifully served but more like a slice of pound cake with orange liquor on it but again it was served perfectly.
