Antonio Restaurante was a perfect ending to our Portugal trip. Made reservations in advance at this beachside restaurant and saw they had the Pork and Clams Alentejana on the menu. I was not disappointed. Started with the gazpacho as it was a perfect cold soup for the ending of a hot day at the beach. The Onion soup my daughter had looked wonderful also. The owner was very accommodating when we made the reservations a few nights before and had asked to be seated in the covered dining porch with an incredible view and sound of the ocean. Wait service was top notch with both waiters on point. I would Highly recommend Antonio to anyone staying in Lagos and especially the Belmar Spa and Resort as it is only a four or five minute walk. read more

Avoid this place - This was an all-around awful experience. Our waiter seemed like he wanted nothing to do with us, or doing his job. Ignorant, is a great word. The restaurant even charges for individual bread servings and butter servings to start! I'm sorry over a Euro for this garbage is unacceptable. (See photo) : Steak extremely undercooked, felt neglected, and staff pointed out with attitude that tips are not included... we left non, whereas we are usually generous. Wow, this place is quite popular! I didn't have a reservation for late lunch on a recent Sunday but was able to squeeze in at a table for 2. The grilled bachalhau with garlic and olive oil was great, a large chunk, and comes with a side of perfectly cooked, steamed vegetables (carrot, cauliflower, broccoli). And I don't usually order dessert BUT my chair positioned me staring into their dessert case! So what's a girl to do? Chocolate mousse was the answer! read more

This place is great for the view but lacks in flavorful food. It's convenient near the beach and we were able to have lunch without a reservation. I tried the octopus tomato stew and I needed to add pepper, but it was still missing something. My friend tried the tuna steak and it was over salted to the point she couldn't eat it. I would stick with known gems in the area for the amount you have to spend in Lagos or stick with burgers (very good). read more

This was an adorable restaurant right on the ocean! Gorgeous views and great service. So happy they had steak au poivre (one of my fave meals) which was outstanding. The sauce was so flavorful and creamy. I was dipping my fries in it, such a perfect combo. I will say I asked for medium rare and it came out very rare, so I'd specify with your waitor or waitress what you're looking for. read more

We are here twice on our stay in Lagos. The first red snapper meal was very yummy. Albeit know that that the veggies are almost mush but this seems to be the style in Portugal so can't complain. Side salad was good and coffee is good. Location can't be beat! 2nd visit I pointed to a picture as waiter didn't speak English well and didn't seem to understand our Spanish. I was served salted cod nothing like the picture and just know that this is a specialty to the Portuguese but I wasn't able to eat it....it smelled like stinky feet. Others ordered the steak Portuguese style and it looked amazing! Overall This is a nice place just make sure you know what you are ordering and get the fresh fish that is displayed that way you know for certain what you are getting! read more

after spending an entire week in lagos, this place had the most unfriendly + unwelcoming staff. we had to speak to three employees in order to get seat. once seated, the waiter gave us the biggest attitude for no reason, so we left. there are SO many other places around the beach that will invite you in with a smile. read more

I feel really bad for the one star review to Antonio restaurant. My had an upset stomach and I wanted to go for something light. I had the vegetable soup, my wife the fish soup and we shared the octopus rice. Everything was impeccably good. The food was very flavorful!! I would highly recommend them and might even go there again since we are staying in the area for a few days. read more

I can only speak for our visit, obviously, but we had a very good experience at Antonio. We stopped by for an early (by local standards) lunch at about noon on a Friday, and were lucky to get a table at all since it was a local holiday and the locals had all called in reservations. The staff was quite nice, and rearranged a couple tables to make room for us, even managing to seat us outside (where everyone wants to be on a nice day at beachfront restaurant). Service was friendly enough, and more efficient than most of the other places we ate at in Portugal which was appreciated. The food was all at least good, but varied a bit. The hake filet with tomato-rice (Filetes de Pescada c/arroz tomato) was fine, but it was basically just a battered fried fish filet; good for what it was, but if we'd known it was just fried fish we'd have tried something else. If you are in the mood for something basic though, it would be a good choice. On the other hand, the Alentejo-style pork (Carne de Porco a Alentejo) was a real winner. It is a big pot of flavorful roasted pork chunks with potatoes, herbs and seasonings, garlic, olive oil, and some clams (in the shell) for just a hint of saltiness without an overwhelming seafood flavor. The pork was all cooked well, browned on the outside but not overcooked, and the potatoes just soaked up all the delicious flavors from the pork, seasonings, and the hint of salt from the clams. I'd order this dish again in a heartbeat. read more

Ate here twice during a stay in Lagos this week. The fresh fish is a 4 or 5 and the location (on the beach ) is the same. The servers are not very friendly and like most restaurants in the area if you happen to not want fish then the menu is lacking. The pizza is frozen for example. That said they do fish really well!!! I had the sole and it was excellent. My husband had sea bass and red snapper. Both excellent with potatoes and good veggies. We had dessert and it was really great cream puff and pistachio gelato. Since staying in Portugal our food experience has been quite phenomenal until it came to a screeching halt at this restaurant. 1. The alcoholic cocktails have barely a drop of alcohol in them. They tasted as though you were drinking a virgin cocktail yet being up charged for the mere mention of alcohol in the description on the menu. 2. The food was very horrid. We had Clam Cataplana - the sauce was extremely oily, salty, and was some of the worst Cataplana I've ever ate. The prawns were puny, the chorizo was low grade, and the overall dish was a failure. Sardines - if you're a fan of over salted fish with a mouth full of fish bones go ahead and treat yourself to this dish. Tuna Salad - arranged canned tuna with low grade vegetables and a little side bowl of mayonnaise, the presentation and taste was revolting. One could make a better tuna fish salad in a college dorm. 3. The service is very slow and not nice. A British man came up to our table and asked if we liked our food since he was thinking of eating at this restaurant. We told him we weren't impressed and recommended a restaurant 100m away which we enjoyed much better. Immediately one of the servers came up to us and muttered loudly under his breath "don't insult the food, you'll ruin business". Since we were unsatisfied he could have at the very least apologized, not muttered under his breath. We felt very uncomfortable by this instance. 4. The bathroom has a pungent odor of warm piss. Overall it was overpriced and not worth our time, money, or the nausea and stomach aches the 6 of us had afterwards. If you are hungry at the beach i would highly recommend Campimar which is 100m away and has phenomenal food and drinks. We regret trying this restaurant and straying from the one we honestly enjoyed. The only positive aspect of this restaurant is that they have a nice terrace and a view so if anything you could order a bottled water or a beer. As a word of advice - don't come here unless you want to be ripped off and disappointed. read more

We ate wonderful food and drank 2 lovely bottles of white Portuguese wine with a 15 month old who is at that grabbing everything in site, stage. She pulled the white paper covering spilling wine all over me. They folded the next one so she couldn't reach it. They were very accommodating and it was appreciated. The food was outstanding from the bread to the pork and clams dish I had. The price was so much less than in the USA for a meal of this quality. We would definitely return. read more

I was in Hollidays in Lagos and want to go to this restaurant one evening. So we go and learn that every table is booked until in 4 days... so we book a table for this time with lots of expectation. Horrible service the waiter practically lecture you whenever you ask a question and seem extremely impatient. The one we had basically never acknowledged our presence unless the food was ready to be served. They only talk to close guests and provide extra to those they are familiar with. Honestly the food wasn't that good, I've had better in Lagos, don't really understand why it's that famous. Honestly think our waiter was racist. We had to wave down another to get our bill, probably the worst restaurant during my entire trip in Lagos. Putting that aside we also ordered a curry and the rice seemed uncooked and the orange juice had a dead fly in it. I guess the grilled shrimp was ok, the fish soup was pretty normal. read more

Antonios at Lagos; avoid this restaurant. On Saturday night July 20 we we had our hotel make a reservation. I asked if we could sit by the windows to see the sunset as the restaurant is on the beach. When we got there the maître d' told us that we had to sit in the second row. He said he told the hotel This information. My wife said we never got it. There were plenty of tables by the windows some had reservations signs and some didn't. I asked politely if we could be moved to the windows. He was very gruff and said no you have to sit here. And he pointed at a table in the second row. We then proceeded to watch him place many parties at the windows. We sat down. I pulled my chair away from the table so I could try to see the ocean in the spaces between the people sitting by the windows. He came, stopped and glared. He shook his head and moved away. We then proceeded to have the worst meal we had in Portugal. I had the salted cod. I should have known better. I asked the waiter how salty was it? He said not very. I had it and was only able to eat half. The waiter warned us that the pizza was frozen. My teenage son had it anyway. It essentially was a flat bread with tomato sauce with no discernible view of cheese. My wife ordered the sea bass which was priced at 46 Euro. They brought her a very small fish with the head on. She picked her way through all the bones and didn't get much meat. I always thought sea bass was a bigger fish which Was served as filleted steaks. It's really hard to find a bad meal in Portugal. But Antonio supplied one. It may be my paranoia but I think this may have been Anti Americanism. I didn't see any other sign of it in Portugal. A nice meal right on the beach. The waiters have a very Portuguese sense of humour which threw us a few times, and they're certainly quite blunt as many have gathered the reputation for but they're quite pleasant and cheerful. They seem pretty clued up on food allergies such as gluten (even gluten free desserts are marked in the menu!) and the menu is quite vast. It is of course a seafood restaurant and I, for some reason, was feeling like meat, so had the turkey. It was quite plain and uninteresting.... whereas the others at my table had seafood and said their meals were wonderful. They have a large range of desserts as well. The atmosphere is reasonably casual, and the football was playing while we were there (naturally). Definitely worth a try. read more

We ordered fresh fish dishes and our meals were delicious! After ordering the fish, our server brought out the whole fishes on a platter for us to see before they were taken to the kitchen and cooked.
