    Tom yum soup base (mild)
    Alice L.

I have recent been really wanting to eat malatang and was curious to try the rebrand of tasty pot since it's near my house. So I stopped by tonight to get takeout. 5/5 cleanliness the stations were thoughtfully laid out and organized. However, I wish there were more options in the middle section. The stations were all very clean and we're constantly being restocked. 4/5 soup I got the tom yum soup base which was so good. The reason why I chose to come here over the other malatang places because there was a good variety of bases. 3/5 takeout service my experience would have definitely been different if I dined in. Not until after I paid, I asked the staff where is the sauce bar. Only to be told that they are not available for takeout, which is one of my favorite parts of eating malatang . Luckily 99 ranch market was still open, so I stopped by to buy some Hotpot sauces on the way home. Overall, I don't mind visiting again but only for dine in. But if I do order takeout again, I now have all the condiments at home

Love the rebranding! They're now called Malatang (but not part of any chain) and have a promo running for $3 off every bowl. The setup is completely revamped. Instead of their previous model with prepared bowls akin to Jazz Cat or Boiling Point, they're now pay per pound, i believe $12.99. Same concept as others (pay by weight), but the variety of items, quality, and broth are all authentic and deelish. You help yourself, weigh and pay at the front, then pick a table to wait while your order is being prepared. I ordered the original Szechuan #1 broth and was not disappointed; it was packed with all the Szechuan flavor without needing to spend 10 minutes picking out heaps of peppercorns and red chili flakes. Once I got to my seat, my bowl was brought out in no time: a pretty brass pot with two side handles and magically cool to the touch. Sauce bar is also self-serve and had everything you need. Lunch also comes with a complimentary green tea drink without the excessive punch of caffeine and sugar it previously had. The selection of hot pot items is awesome. They have all the standard stuff you'd expect: several different kinds of veggies, meats, seafood, fish balls, and tofus but also lots of not-so-common items i was excited about like tendon (which boiled down really soft and translucent), clear potato noodles, purple yam noodles, beef balls with yummy beef filling, fish balls with egg in the middle (but egg yolk not fish egg, which was still tasty), crawfish, and mussels. The only downside was that i do miss the old staff as every one of the members were polite and attentive. Moving forward, customers will likely mostly be on their own. If you lower your expectations for customer service, the food and price will more than makeup for it.

    5/4/25 Reception here bites!

5/4/25 Met up with some wonderful Friends to try this hot pot in Alhambra, a solid 3.5, definitely NEEDS major improvement with connectivity, we all had trouble checking in & ordering. If you're really hungry-- it could quickly escalate to a state of supreme HANGRY. No WIFI, you have been warned! When we finally ordered (when it loaded), it was so challenging to get the staff's attention. We felt we were left on our own devices. It took several tries to wave them to come over to help us. How it goes: choose your soup, then spice level. Hubby ordered the beef hot soup, medium spice level with rice, plenty of ingredients: Napa cabbage, beef slices, vermicelli and Enoki mushroom, taro, tomato, tofu, tempura, corn, meatball, fried tofu skin, imitation crab meat, fish, cake, clam, cilantro, scallion! I ordered the Japanese miso soup with udon & lots of ingredients: taiwanese cabbage, scallion, pork slices, crab udon and Enoki mushroom. clam, fish fillet, king oyster mushroom, fried tofu skin, zucchini, soft, tofu, cuttle fish meatball, seaweed knot, corn, tempura, roe fish ball, shrimp (2 large with shell & head), Fuzhou fish ball, and kamaboko. The place can hold about 86 people. The hot pots are served with a flame source so it arrives piping hot! Lemme tell you, we were absolutely steamed up in there-- fanning myself to cool down! LoL. It's a chill vibe, cafeteria style dining (table & chairs, some booths. You order at the table with a QR code-/ good luck getting through, All in all with this experience, we might try other venues with better service & reception (both from staff & internet/connectivity). Our group had fun on our own but the service from the staff left a lot to be desired. Good is pretty but not enough to return due to the experience.

First time here and I really love the concept of choosing your own ingredients and broth, then paying by the weight of your hot pot, and then having it cooked for you and brought to the table. This restaurant is very clean, restrooms as well. The buffet style bar has an amazing array of ingredients to choose from.We had quick and friendly service and everything is so fresh! The broth that I ordered was the Healthy Bone Soup, mild spice. Really, the broth was the star of the show! I left very satisfied and was perfect for this cold day.

Had quite a tasty pot here a few months ago with a group of friends and really enjoyed the presentation of this hot pot. Parking garage right behind the restaurant with walkway to sidewalk and front entrance. Service was a little stretched while having a full house that evening but they tried their best. We had one person missing their meal in our party even though we all ordered at the same time. Needs some improvement. Vinegars, chili oils, sauces on the table to adjust to your spice level. Pay at the front

Dined in on 05/04/25 for lunch. We came right before it opened and there was a small like already. It looks big inside, but there aren't a lot of tables. I ordered the #1 beef hot pot. The prices are okay and comparable to Boiling Point. I do like how they are offering discounts since they have a grand opening. Also, you get points back for signing up through their service which is cool. Taste: nothing special, it just tastes like Boiling Point to me. Service: It took awhile, we had to wait 20 minutes for our food

    Perfectly delicious

Perfect popcorn chicken, cooked to perfection, with perfect pieces of juicy chicken that made my taste buds go, "Oh man, this is perfect." They were also nice enough to give me extra spicy seasoning upon request on the side, which took it to the next level. Best popcorn chicken I've had in all my years. ALL MY YEARS.

This place is under new management. Ordered: Beef Hot Pot, Stinky Tofu Hot Pot, Taiwanese Hot Pot, and Kimchi Hot Pot. The spicy wontons were on the house. Broth is a bit light, in my opinion, on the bland side. Nothing really stood out to me. Overall service was very good and attentive, which made up the average tasting food. They constantly came to ask if we needed more soup and also refilled our iced water. However, the sterno that kept the pot warm didn't last long, so our hot pot soup wasn't hot enough. But if you're looking for an individual hot pot option, this place isn't too bad. Support your local business.

Came on a Friday night. No wait to get seated, but the restaurant was fully seated. Beef Hot Soup (3.5/5): I ordered the medium spicy here (similar to mild at boiling point). The broth was a little saltier than I prefer, but I still enjoyed the add-ons that is paired in the pot. The sauces are similar to the one at boiling point but noticeable differences would be the sauces are more sweet and less spicy (this can be adjusted by using their spicy chili sauce). Basil Popcorn Fried Chicken: (3.5/5): The fried chicken was pretty yummy, juicy, crispy, & perfectly fried. The only thing i would have liked more would be the lack of Basil flavor in the chicken.

Free parking structure in the back off 1st street. Came during a weekday lunch. They still had their 15% off soft opening promotion. The place was clean and felt spacious. Came here before the new management. Didn't see much difference in the decor besides a divider in the middle of the restaurant. Food was good. We like this place more than Boiling Point and we've been going to Boiling Point when they first open over a decade ago in Monterey Park. We got the 泰式酸辣鍋(午) or Thai Flavor Hot Soup (L) for $23.25 - $3.49 discount. The 沙茶牛肉鍋(午) or Beef Hot Soup (L) was $18.85 - $2.83 discount. 香菜羊肉鍋(午) or Lamb Hot Soup (L) was also $18.85 - $2.83 discount. We like the tangy flavor from the Thai Flavor Hot Pot. The Thai Flavor Hot Pot was like twice the size of the regular size hot pot. The soups from the beef and lamp hot pot tasted the same. We enjoyed the green or black tea that came with the lunch. The waitress was nice enough to give everyone at the table a free drink despite us only ordering three hot pots. We did not like the service we received. Took a while for the food to come out. We added on a bowl of rice in the middle of our meal and it took about 10 minutes for it to come out. We had the drinks sealed so we can take it to go, but she didn't seal it correctly and the drink spilled. The waitress also forgot to return our credit card. We would come back for lunch and get the large size hot pot to share among two people and order add ons. The servers seemed very inexperienced. We will be careful and not expect too much from the servers for our next visit.

11/6/25- Bone broth (mild), sauce for dipping, and extra cilantro, scallion, and chilies for topping

Let me first start off by saying that I loved Tasty Pot! My first experience of Tasty Pot was in the Bay. And off the bat, I liked them better than Boiling Point because I liked their sauces better. Japanese miso was my favorite!! From that first time, I came back home to SoCal wishing that they would open one closer to me down here. So I was so glad when they opened one in Rancho Cucamonga.. until they discontinued my Japanese miso :'( And then they opened one in Alhambra and I was once again elated! I would come here whenever I was craving a warm and comforting meal, and it always hit the spot. Last week, I got a text saying Tasty Pot Alhambra changed to Malatang style and offered a discount. I was surprised, but curious as to how the change was going to be so I decided to come in and try. (Side note: I have had Malatang before at YGF and Zhangliang so that style of hot pot is not new to me. I was more concerned about the taste and flavors that Tasty Pot would offer) And...yeah..I'm disappointed. I chose my items just like I would at the other Malatang places that I've been to. They did have a good variety of options and the food was fresh. There's eight broth options to choose from, which is more than at the other places. I went with my usual bone broth(mild- bc I like spicy, but I can't have a lot of chili oil so I add chilies from the sauce bar into my broth after). I didn't have to wait too long for my pot to come out. During the wait time, I made my dipping sauce and got toppings. By the time I sat back down, it was only a couple more minutes before they brought out my food. The bone broth was very light, verging on bland. Compared to the other Malatang places, it didn't have the same depth of flavor so I had to add more seasoning. I wish that they had miso bone broth (like they used for the Japanese miso hot pot) as an option. Also, unlike the other style that Tasty Pot used to be, this bowl didn't stay hot the whole time (bc it didn't have the little fire under it -which I liked). All in all, I prefer the Tasty Pot from before. I do normally like Malatang too, but not from here. Other things: - They did remodel the place but it's not too different from before. Biggest change is that they added the bar for the food options. - Service was good. I was greeted right away. And the server took time to explain to me that they've changed the way they do their hot pots and what to do, in case I didn't know. - They do offer some premade bowls that are based off of their previous menu in the first section of the food bar. They had the beef, lamb, and Taiwanese options for a discounted price when I went in. - They also included a free drink with my meal. And honored the discount from the text so that was nice

Went for the rebranding to malatang. The layout changed so half of the space is used to build your pot and the other half is seating. After adding our ingredients to our bowls, we can choose a soup base. We got the golden spicy, tomato, and bone broth i think it's called. My favorite was the golden but all the soups were really good. Super rich and the ingredients soaked up the flavor well. Honestly I feel like I like the flavor of these soups better than the original tasty pot but not sure since I haven't been in a while. They had the usual malatang sauces you can make your own blend. They also offered free sweetened green tea or water. We do have to pay extra for a bowl of rice on the side which was around $2.

Similar to Boiling Point but Tasty Pot doesn't have a wow factor. Ordered their beef pot medium spicy and was left content and not much to rave about.

There's a pretty large variety of broths to pick from which is nice. We both got the spicy beef, which tasted rich and tomatoey so it was different than a typical beef bone broth that I expected! It was nice because the acidity helped to balance with the richness of the meats. Of all the meats, our favorites were the brisket and the beef short plate. My family and I enjoyed the food. The vegetables, meat, and sauces tasted good. I really liked their goma dare (sesame sauce), which is my favorite part of shabu shabu. The brown rice portion was substantial, but the rice was reheated and dry. The ramen portion, while tasty was small, like ~1/3 of the rice portion. I personally, like to eat the carb throughout the meal, which means ordering more. The space is large with a lot of hard surfaces. I wouldn't say it is a quiet space--it is good for groups. We also sat closer to the door, so my elder family members were a bit cold while we waited. However, once the burners were going, it didn't feel as cold. The three of us ate for ~90 without tip, which can make sense for folks who don't want to pay $55pp for AYCE dinner. However, I think AYCE lunches at other restaurants during the week are a better value and can have smoother service. Just like many things in this world, my experience isn't black and white. There were things I liked and things that could be improved. I think it's worth a shot for others to try, as long as they can be open minded about the experience and patient.

Disappointed to hear that this place closed. Wish we could be there for the last day atleast. Went…read morehere over the years and each time I've enjoyed it a lot. I hope to see this restaurant open some other time, even if it's in a different place. From what I remember the soup was great, and the other foods we placed in them were almost nice. I didn't mind most of the things most people had problems with, namely, the "presentation." Honestly didn't really care because I really only enjoyed the food. The owner was also nice and chill, along with the rest of staff, hope they're doing well.

Other places have passed them by in some respects First there is no sauce bar here. Just four small containers of sauces you can use. Ironically none of those sauces are soy sauce. A darker possible peanut sauce, a sesame sauce, a pinkish possibly fermented tofu sauce and the standard chili oil. I wanted more as far as the sauce goes and I thought a sauce bar was pretty standard these days Second there is no AYCE bar with small snacks. Kind of interesting When ordering the meat, I guess they wanted to save a plate so the sliced meats just came in plastic containers. That loses some points with me on presentation Other than that everything is fine. They charge a little less for the broth than a lot of places do, so that's nice Got vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, noodles and a couple of meats. Overall it's a fine experience, mostly Ok to Good. But the lack of some things makes it more second tier for me and it would not be a go to hot pot place for me

The mushroom soup base is a must--rich, flavorful, and especially perfect when paired with rice. It's one of those broths you actually want to finish, not just cook in. For meats, I always go back to the fatty beef belly and the Angus beef ribeye. Both are high quality, well-sliced, and cook perfectly in the broth--super satisfying every time. Service here has consistently been great. Yes, there's usually a wait, but that's because this place is always packed--it's constantly poppin, and for good reason. The staff keeps things moving and still manages to stay attentive. But honestly, my favorite part? The snack bar. It's such an underrated highlight. They have a variety of snacks available, and I always end up grabbing extras to take with me for later. It just adds to the whole experience and makes it feel like you're getting more than just a meal. Overall, this spot lives up to the hype. Great food, great energy, and definitely worth the wait.

The hostess asked for our information to get us to a table more quickly, which I appreciated. The food options are vast! The basic meats are far cheaper than Hai Di Lao. The sauce and snack bar had many options that I couldn't decide how to build the sauce correctly. The soup bases were good. The cost is good for not having to drive to Hai Di Lao and getting basic meats. What's problematic is getting service. The servers are so busy, it's hard to get their attention. It took more than 10 minutes to get the bill and receipt. I would give this place better stars if they had more servers. Hai Di Lao is far more attentive and the tablet is very helpful. Lastly, the restaurant is small so it feels like you're in everyone's way when you're at the sauce bar.
