I came in to get some cookies for my family. Tastries is one of the few places that makes excellent Macrons (which are my favorite cookie). The staff member who helped me was very sweet and told me about some of the different cookies and cupcakes. I ended up getting one cupcake for my son's birthday and a bunch of different cookies. I recently placed an order for a sheet cake for my wife's 60th birthday. I was fairly explicit with the flavors and decorations I wanted but apparently not explicit enough (Decoration Image was included in an email). The decoration I requested was not correct although I was more disappointed because the part of writing on the cake was wrong. These cakes aren't cheap and the price you pay for something, you expect to get what you order. I was wanting a chocolate/fudge cake w/buttercream frosting which I stated several times but felt I was being pushed into just a plain chocolate cake which is what I ended up with. Overall the cake was good, moist but the frosting seemed somewhat stiff, I'm assuming from being refrigerated or the cake being premade ahead of time before decorating. This place looks to specialize in cakes. I found this place when my husband decided to go to Harbor Freight which is about as exciting to me was watching paint dry. I saw the bakery and on impulse went in. I bought everything to go. The turtle cheese cake was to die for and a real hit with my family. I sprung for a whole cake. No issues. I had two different macaroons. One was terrible, I think it was not fresh to be honest. The other, probably a seasonal thing was peppermint and that was pretty flavorful and seemed fresh. I bought s slice of peppermint chocolate cheese cake and found it dense and tasteless. My husband tried it too and agreed before pitching it in the trash. I bought a cute decorated cookie, seemed fresh, pliable but also tasteless. In short, I think it depends on what you order. I did not try the cupcakes, they looked pleasantly enticing. I would like to say I have been coming here for years. I have ordered multiple cakes from them before and they never disappoint. A couple months ago I started planning my daughter's baby shower. I first went to a couple of the other bakeries, only to see what they could do and what they taste like. I found out that unless you know someone or follow bakers on Instagram Tastries is the only bakery in Bakersfield that specializes in cookies. So I drive over and placed my order. I ordered cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, macaroons shooters, marshmallows, and pretzels. Everything tasted great! My favorite was the lemon cake with blueberry on top shooters and chocolate fudge cake pops. The service has always been great. And if you haven't visited this place you need to. It's so cute. Honestly not sure what all the hype is about with this place? This town doesn't have many good bakeries that are well rounded as far as: variety, flavor, service, ambiance....etc. and this place is no different than the other basic bakeries I've tried. The flavors were good but nothing to rave about, the ambiance is nothing special. The service was subpar, not one smile, the person working there seemed like they didn't even want to be there....so why would I want to be there?! I left there feeling guilty that I gave these people my money. As someone who runs a full team and a business, I know you all can do better. If you're not passionate about your business anymore, sell it, get rid of it...don't just stay open and provide a horrible experience to people who walk in. Their deli was closed when I went, but I got a Pistachio Macaron - the inside sugar filling taste like a glazed donut w a hint of pistachio flavoring + a lovely crumble and squish of the top and bottom macaron cookiebitz! I also got an Energy Ball - which actually had chocochips! but I took my lactose pill lol either way. Next, I got to looking at the cookies. There were so many to choose from and some were frosted and others had icing or just plain. I went with the red velvet cookie and an iced coffee cup. After reading the reviews you would think everything is just terrible so I expected that, but I shouldn't have. The red velvet cookie was so soft and perfect, the way it should be. The iced cookie was also very delicious. I could have eaten dozens of those which made me regret not getting more. This is such a cute, unique bakery compared to others in town. If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered a cake for my niece's quinceañera and the entire experience was a nightmare. First of all, the theme color was burgundy, and I literally spent 20 minutes going over their palette of colors with them to make sure they got it right. And what did they give me? A cake decorated with PURPLE flowers. How do you mess up something so important? It looked completely out of place at the event and ruined the whole presentation. On top of that, the cake itself was a disaster. The frosting was so thick it was practically inedible, and the cake crumbled to pieces as soon as we tried to slice it. We were left with a pile of cake rubble, not slices, which was embarrassing in front of our guests. I want to start off by saying that I have been doing business with Tastries for a few years now. I trusted them to do the wedding cake for mine and my wife's wedding which is no easy task. And boy did they deliver! Our cake was beautiful and not just that, but it actually tasted good, which is rare for wedding cakes! On our one year anniversary, I had Tastries remake the top layer of our wedding cake. Being that they had our order on file, we were easily able to find out exactly what cake and filling we ordered and we were able to enjoy our wedding cake on our first anniversary. Fast forward to now, my wife who is now seven months pregnant was really craving a good cupcake and we knew exactly where to go. of course after being there, she talked me into getting a slice of their Oreo cheesecake which I enjoyed over the course of two days. it was excellent.
