The Tasting Room in Monona, WI is a phenomenal lounge to visit if you are a true lover or connoisseur of wine, special cigars, and looking for a relaxing upscale lounge with an outdoor patio with beautiful fire pit with a view of the Yahara River (inlet). I recently, visited the Tasting room for a friend's birthday celebration who loves smoking cigars. When I first walked in, the lounge was dimly lit with an absolutely stunning beautiful bar, a beautiful modern fireplace, cozy furniture, and it wraps all the way around to a back corner that has a large screen tv with couches and huge round table. The vibe was giving me sophisticated, warm/inviting, and extremely cozy! I went on a Saturday night. It was a fully packed lounge with people enjoying themselves! I was really impressed with their bar area where you can also see behind the bar is a stunning spacious walk-in humidor, crafted in classic Spanish Cedar that showcases hundreds of handcrafted premium cigar brands that you can purchase and enjoy in the Tasting Room lounge. They carry some limited edition such as Opus X, Liga Privada and Davidoff cigars. I really appreciated the excellent customer service at the Tasting Room. I myself have worked in the service industry and have high expectations. Although it was really busy, the bartenders were very professional, prompt, friendly, and consistently made sure my friends and I were well taken care of throughout the whole entire night. One of the bartenders even though he couldn't get to us right away made sure to acknowledge us/greet us and that he would be with us shortly when we first sat at the bar. They have a very nice selection of unique sophisticated craft cocktails, an impressive special selection of whiskeys, beer, wine by the glass or bottle, and even great options for non-alcoholic drinks including Sumatra coffee. I really enjoyed my craft cocktail I tried called the "Hydromelon" made with Charentais Melon, Lemon, Amaretto, Sparkling Wine, Barrel-Aged Gin, and Mint. It was a beautifully made cocktail with beautiful presentation that was not too sweet but also fruity. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves the whole time we were there for my friend's birthday celebration relaxing, chatting, and enjoying our drinks and cigars. I highly recommend checking out the Tasting Room if you are looking for a relaxing cozy environment to enjoy great drinks, conversation, and great selection of cocktails. Great place for relaxing with friends or date night! Huge selection of premium cigars that are priced fairly. One of the best walk-in humidors I've ever seen. They have a large selection of drinks and specialty offerings. The ambience is fantastic, although it used to be better before they changed the seating, but it's still decent and comfortable. Staff is very helpful if you're new to cigars, and they keep your drinks full. They're also friendly and engaging. One thing that I like for cigar lounges is proper ventilation. They do this well. Smoke is overwhelming if you have non smokers with you. They also have a great patio with super heaters. This makes it enjoyable on cool fall nights or cold days. read more

I've had some strange experiences making reservations here which has really tarnished my experience. I've called and been told there's no need for me to make a reservation and then showed up and the place was full. I've also had some not good drinks as well, standard drinks on the menu that were just very bad. On the plus side, the bartenders are spectacular when ordering off-menu and when I asked for a drink stating that I like "raspberry, rosemary, smokey, spicy" they made me one of the most delicious drinks I've ever had in my life. read more

What a lovely surprise. After dinner at Buck & Honey we decided to check this out. The humidor was impressive and the staff was helpful. After selecting our cigars we went to the bar. They didn't have our usual whiskey, but on the bartenders recommendation we tried the Koval oat. It paired very well with the Oliva cigar. I tried a couple of the red wines. They were fine but didn't pair as well with the cigars. The staff was so friendly. There were a couple of guests that spilled beer and got a little loud and the staff was patient with the situation. Looking forward to a return visit and recommending this spot to friends. read more

What a great experience - the former location was nice and the new location and build is outstanding. Plenty of comfortable seating with a large bar. Three large TVs for watching games and a fantastic fire place feature. This location is right on the river with multiple boat slips for people visiting the businesses in this development. They also have a series of tasting events, the recents included an old fashioned, Bordeaux wine, gin, and mezcal tasting event each with a cigar pairing. They often have live music and get pretty busy on the weekend nights. Outdoor patio and fire pit open as well. No food, but you can order from Buck + Honeys ans they'll deliver it to you. I met a group of coworkers here to share a couple bottles of wine and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed our time here! You are able to bring in your own snacks so of course we made a charcuterie board to share with our wine. Our waiter made great selections of wine to choose from and we loved all 3 that we purchased. Had a marvelous time at the Tasting Room on Saturday. Went with a group of friends and felt safe as they reinforced wearing masks when not at our tables. Drinks were strong and flavorful. My boyfriend had their house cigar (not sure on the name) and he enjoyed it. It's dark in there but it goes with the vibe and it's a very nice vibe. We have been here many times, and absolutely love it every time. Their cigar selection is completely over the top. A gigantic perfectly maintained humidor room with shelves and shelves of options is the main point of the shop. And the folks that work there are quite knowledgeable as well if you find yourself stuck on a decision. If you can't find a smoke that works for you here, you probably should reconsider smoking cigars overall :) They don't have what I would call an actual bar, but they have a crazy awesome wine and scotch selection, and an ever-growing top-notch beer list. Rumor has it a fully functioning bar is in the future, which would be a perfect add to this place. The ambiance is awesome with truly unique art on the walls (most of it is for sale) and comfortable seating throughout. Great friendly staff work there, and they are always willing to strike up an enjoyable conversation. The only things keeping this from 5 stars: 1. the hours. They shut down at 9PM on the nose. Not 9:05, and definitely not 9:10. They are not at all rude at closing time, but there is no question they want you out ASAP. We often try to make this a stop after a night of dinner and drinks, but given most of their cigars ate 30 minute smokes at least, we often feel rushed. Maybe they aren't after the night life crowd, but we personally would love if they were open until 10 or later on Friday/Saturday nights. 2. the seating. Although it is extremely comfortable, it is quite limited. They could reconsider the high-tops and replace them with more loungy cigar smokin' scotch drinkin' leather couches and chairs so more can enjoy and it would definitely be a hit. 3. no full bar. Go for the license to get a full bar going. Make it all top shelf to align with all the rest of the high quality products you offer, and charge a premium. This should keep the riff raff out of the place and give a full on lounge experience. Even if you change nothing, we will continue to be frequent customers because what you are doing currently is done very well, and we have a great time every time we go. read more

This is an excellent place! I am very impressed by the quality of the cigars, presenters and service that exist here. The staff is top notch and truly care about what is going on there. One gentleman even came up and gave me a hug! I am all about that! They have been able to attract big names in the cigar world to come there, sell their wares and chat with the folks that come by. This is cool! I was recently at an event hosted by the Tasting Room and they had a rep from Altadis come in and describe the different wrappers around different types of cigars. This is awesome! Very nice cigar store, there don't seem to be many places in Madison for what I'd call "Full Service" cigar shops. They have a wide selection in their walk-in humidor, the staff are quite knowledgeable and very helpful in selections. They have a range of wine and spirits as well, and again the staff are indispensable on cigar/alcohol pairings. I read some comments about seating not being ideal, but rest assured they are moving to a larger building in the very near future, and I for one look forward to that. Other locales like liquor stores and smoke shops may stock cigars, but this is their specialty at the Tasting Room, and it is this at which they excel - the 5 star rating is well deserved. read more

This place is really hit or miss for me. I really want to like them, as there aren't a lot of cigar bar options in the Madison area, but they've got issues. They have a *huge* selection of cigars in their well-stocked, well-maintained humidor, which is fantastic (as well as recommendations, if you're not sure what you're in the mood for.) There's also comfortable seating in addition to the bar if you'd like to hang out and enjoy your cigar and a drink. In addition, they also host wine, cigar, and other tasting events that are well-attended. The only thing I can't get over are the bizarre hours. They're open until 7pm Tuesday-Friday, 5pm on Saturdays, and closed Sundays and Mondays. For me (and a huge number of my social circle,) cigars are a relaxing, social experience, not a rushed errand, like I'm picking up milk and eggs at the grocery. As a small business owner myself, I respect another's need to set their hours as they see fit, but with the Tasting Room's business hours as they are, I'm rarely able to make it over there on weekdays, and lack of weekend evening hours nix that possibility as well. I'd like to give them at least four stars, but it doesn't matter if you have the best-stocked humidor in the Midwest if it's difficult to access it. read more

It's one of those places that is so awesome you wish it was bigger but you know bigger would take away from it. The whole place is decorated in class! And the amazing thing is that it's CLEAN!
