Gorgeous space, nicely appointed but my takeout dishes of hot n sour soup and Cashew Chicken were very disappointing. Personnel were very accommodating to me making an exception to my scallop allergies substituting lots of shrimp in the soup which was unexpected. Terrible - worst Chinese food I've ever had, I'm sorry to say, because we ate here years ago and it was great - but obviously an ownership changed ruined it. It's the kind of Americanized Chinese where dishes are either served in a thick, gooey, muddy-tasting brown sauce, or they're a deep fried, oily mess. The better dishes we ordered were just ok, unremarkable (egg rolls, sechuan chicken). The worst dishes were barely edible. In particular, the salt and pepper shrimps, which had neither salt nor pepper, and where the shrimps are blanketed in a bland, thick and oily batter. Too bad, as the shrimps were quite big and could have been good. There should have been more salt and pepper seasoning, and some chili flakes, garlic, or ginger... something! As it was, it was a pale and lackluster iteration of a dish that can be absolutely delicious when done right. I don't see myself coming back. read more

A group of us met for lunch at Taste Wei. The restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived and for the duration of our meal. Still, It took a long time to get our orders taken (each person ordered his own lunch, and then an EXTRAORDINARY long time for our food to arrive. The first 3 meals arrived about 30 minutes after ordering and the other 3 of us got our meals about 45 minutes after ordering. Despite politely pointing out to the waitress (who was also the hostess) how long it took to get the meals, there was no apology of any kind. It was a bizarre experience. For the record, the food, which is usually disappointing there, was slightly better than usual, but definitely not worth the wait and the indifferent attitude of the staff. When you want Chinese food, this is what you want. It's perfect for normal sweet and sour standard Chinese food, it's perfect for more interesting authentic flavor profiles, it's even got sushi, crab, and basically anything you could imagine wanting, all at extremely reasonable or even cheap prices. Didn't capture a pboto myself because I was busy inhaling my delicious sugar meat and rice (although personally I think the seafood tofu soup was probably the best thing in the table) ignore all the bad reviews , it's gorgeous and clean inside, with amazing views and very friendly and nice wait staff. We found this place on our way back home from a weekend in Kingston. I am pleasantly surprised how our food turned out! They were able to accommodate our group of 11 with such short notice, and our food came in without a long wait. Our family definitely ordered more seafood, and to me, they tasted fresh -- complete surprise. They definitely closed half of their restaurant due to the pandemic, and I hope that they will get more business. I see so much potential what this place could be ( or could be again). Ignore the shitty reviews and pay attention. I have missed good sushi since I've lived in CA and moved to OR and WA. Even decent places in Seattle left me missing the bay area's simplistic and delicious California Roll. This place will have my business every time I'm here. The California roll has perfectly toasted sesame seeds, perfectly ripe avocado, and (I can't believe I'm typing this) the quality of the imitation crab is second to none. The "sleep beauty" roll was Smokey, chili-brite, rich and delicious. Service was prompt and polite. Having stayed in the hotel across the road many times and driven to Silverdale for dinner, this place really seems to have made its mark. I have been to this restaurant many times, starting with the first week that they opened a few years back. As it should be, they have come a long way since those early days. The menu is pretty solid and extensive enough. The wait staff know what they are doing and do it fairly well. I usually get the waiters Tony or Ryan, Tony being my favorite, but Ryan is absolutely adorable. Both stand out because they are willing to go over the menu with their customers in detail, make recommendations and come back enough times to make sure that their customers are satisfied with their meal. The look and feel of this restaurant is odd. From the outside it looks like no one is ever there, and honestly not many are there. It doesn't really look like a Chinese restaurant that would catch your attention and draw you in. In fact, you might drive right past it or even look directly at it and wonder what it is. When you first walk in the interior décor looks like it's supposed to be high class but then in a split second you will realize that it is just a bit gaudy. I do have some favorite things on the menu that I tend to eat most of the time. I love both of their soups, the hot and sour and the Westlake. They waiters are super kind to me because they know I do not like certain types of seafood and they make sure that they remove those from the hot and sour and just simply give me plenty of shrimp instead. Hot and Sour and Westlake are very different soups and I honestly can't tell you which I like the most. I switch between the both of them, equally satisfied no matter my choice. Most of their appetizers are tasty. I don't have a particular recommendation for you but the ones I've had have been delightful. I especially like chow fun, with the wide noodles, with chicken and no bean sprouts. However, all the dishes I've had have been decent. And I've had probably 6 or so from the menu over the past couple of years. I am not a huge fan of sushi, but I actually think they make really good sushi. They have a nice variety, and the prices are great. So, all in all, I give them a very solid average score. They have good people serving, decent food, good prices, and all of that. A bit lower than the 4 or 5 star range --- and at the moment I can't tell you why. It's not quite a 4 or 5 star restaurant even though it has all of the wonderful features that I mentioned in this review. There's just something missing. Could be the fact that there's hardly ever any one dining there no matter what time of day. I do recommend that you give them a try. read more

I was almost intimidated to stay since I didn't bring hubby for a date night and they were getting close to closing. However, the staff were so nice and I had nowhere else to go, so I stayed. I sat up at the sushi bar, ordered a drink (they have a full bar), and ordered the first thing that looked good on the menu. What I got in return was one of finest dining experiences I've ever had. The lemon drop was made to perfection! I've never tasted one so good before! And the Tiger Roll was ginormous! I had to ask to look at the menu again because I couldn't believe that is what I ordered. Turns out they don't do anything simple here. Same ingredients but they present it differently than in picture. So if your looking for a fine dining experiences, but without the hassle or stuffiness of a more upscale restaurant then you best be coming here. Food is good, drinks are amazing, and the place has such gorgeous ambience. It's hard to believe it's right across the street from a Walmart! I will be back again soon. I don't know what happened to this place. The food quality has deteriorated. Ordered the tempura shrimp. The batter was undercooked as if the oil wasn't hot enough. I ordered beef and vegetables. It came in a huge puddle of brown sauce. When I asked what it was, I was told it was oyster sauce. They should have called it soup. When I placed my order, I told the server I couldn't eat rice. My husband and I have eaten at Taste Wei several times now. The food is very good and the portions are generous. We always get a second meal out of our order. The staff are so polite. The venue is awesome! If you need a place to have a family gathering they have a round room with a large table and the requisite lazy Susan for sharing. It reminds me of some of my favorite places in San Francisco. My husband is a big fan of the beef chow fun. Also the vegetarian spring rolls, you get 4 per order, not one like other places in town. I have tried several spicy dishes and they are all great. I will try the sushi soon. As Poulsbo gets busier and busier, try this place before there is a line out the door. Why bother? I'm always on the hunt for Asian or Asian inspired food; it's basically comfort food to me. Over the years I've discovered two things about ethnic food. 1) That some of the best food can be had from the divest of dives. And 2) Some of that same food is only edible when drunk or stoned out of your mind. Since the outside of this place fit a pretty typical Asian dive architecture, from the delicately tilting roof propped up on a column that was obviously wrecked in the not distant past to the rusting boat parked out back - every thing about this place suggested that it have fantastic food. Sadly I'll never know, since the waitstaff didn't show up within any resemblance of reasonable time, to the flies buzzing around, to the fact that they wouldn't sub fried rice for a white side, even at a reasonable up charge. While visiting family in Poulsbo I always like to try out the international cuisine options where possible. This looked like the closest thing to authentic chinese I would be able to find so I tried it out one afternoon while Christmas shopping. When walking in you will notice that this restaurant is HUGE. Like the Summer Palace huge! There are several rooms filled with benches and booths. I cannot imagine it ever really being filled. I in fact was the only person on this particular day in the entire room by myself (which sat around 50 guests). There was another table in another room all by themselves as well. The decor was...lets say interesting for Poulsbo. It was kind of like a cleaner version of the Forbidden City and I think many guests would enjoy. The menu had several dishes I thought looked tasty but I couldn't find the traditional chinese dishes I had hoped for. I asked the waiter if they had anything like Dan Dan Mien and he just said, no without any other recommendations. I ended up ordering the spicy pork noodles and pan fried buns. This was a lot of food but I didn't mind taking some home. The pan fried buns were filled with pork. They seemed to have been steamed and then pan fried on one side. They were really delightful as the frying gave them a different texture then I am accustomed to with Baotzi. This dish gets a 5/5 in my book. The dipping sauce that came with was also a nice accompaniment. The spicy pork noodles were sort of like a Chau Mien. They were a little spicy but not overboard. If the waiter would have checked on me I would have asked for some Sriracha or chili paste to help kick up the spice in these a bit. Overall they were still tasty, just a bit oily. I ended up taking about 3/4 of this dish home as I was stuffed and they were nice reheated the next day too. All in all the food was good and I would eat again. It was a bit pricy for what you get and the service was definitely lacking (I only saw my server twice, once to take my order and the second time to bring it. The rest of the time I sat by myself in that big vast room), but I'd come back because it seems to be the best chinese you can get in Poulsbo. read more

Easily the best place on the peninsula for a Chinese food fix when you don't want to go into Seattle. The place is giant and the decor alone is worth a look -- the place is extravagantly decorated with gold, deep reds, and polished stone and is totally out of place in Poulsbo next to a shopping center off of Highway 3. I am guessing they cater to weddings and events and perhaps are even a destination restaurant in some circles. They have a huge full bar (maybe two) and a large special event area. My favorite dishes are pot stickers, mu shu, dry sauteed green beans, sticky rice and shrimp with pepper and salt. Have not tried the sushi or sashimi only because I just prefer to go to sushi-focused restaurants for my otoro and sake. Have been a 3-4 times and the service is always great -- responsive, attentive and friendly. Sometimes they forget a spoon or two and they have forks already set on all the tables which contrasts oddly with the extreme décor, but they more than make up for it with charm and service. read more

Make sure you get a window table, the view is worth it. You get a view of the water, seattle, and the mountain behind it. This is the best thing about the restaurant. The food here leaves much to be desire. The noodle and seafood plate I order was lackluster. I think safeway noodles taste better and less oily than what I was serve here. The sushi are just passable. Nothing to write home about, and not something to go out of my way for again. The service here was pretty terrible. Take it I was here by myself, but both time I was here I got my check before my main course came to the table. I definitely felt like they were rushing me out of the building before I got all my food. The server ask if I was ready to pay for me meal before my main dish came out of the back. Very large restaurant and a large parking lot to go with it. The large windows have a fantastic view of Liberty Bay. The glass tables have a strange smell to them, probably the cleaning solution. The divider in between the tables has thick layer of dust. The House Special sushi roll doesn't taste like anything really. The ceilings are very nice, with crystal chandeliers but the drinking glasses are labeled "Pepsi-Cola". I just don't understand why you would go over the top with chandeliers but use cheap tacky glasses. Overall, the food way bland. Not bad, but not good. This place reminds me of the before restaurant on Gordon Ramsey's show Kitchen Nightmares. It has potential but it's heading in the wrong direction. The outside decor is... Strange.
