We made reservations for 14. We were seated right away. The place is relatively small. The service staff were friendly. The food was good. 7 out of 10 stars. Unfortunately, it took a very long time for all of us to get our food. Our group of 14 overwhelmed the restaurant. They did add 18% gratuity because of our large group, which is understandable. The bento box entree was impressive. I ordered the sukiyaki, but I wished that I ordered the bento box instead. Other dishes that looked good included the chicken with beans. The meat for the kalbi was tough. The sushi was good. Not spectacular. I would come back in a smaller group the next time. I love this place and the people who operate it. I've been going there for close to 20 years, if it has been open that long. When my kids were growing up, we'd go because their non-sushi food, including Chinese style, is very good, too, so there was something for everyone. My younger son (now 29) and I have been going there since he was a little kid. We have both had sushi and Sashimi in many places. He lives in NY City, I have had sushi in Amsterdam, NY, California, etc. I have never had any BETTER, or fresher fish anywhere. I was driving through town & stopped by. I had no idea the itamae was from Sam's Sushi (was next to Palisade at Elliot Bay Marina below Magnolia & Chinoise atop Queen Anne, now Ikiiki). I live in QA in Seattle. I had the sashimi, kaki fry oysters & goi cuon (fresh spring rolls, not fried, stuffed with rice noodles, lettuce, bean sprouts, shrimp & peanut sauce). Food preparation was spot on with what I'm used to in Seattle at a lower price than Seattle. Sashimi was fresh & arranged masterfully. Sushi, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese food with pho (beef noodle soup). This is NOT fusion! Each cuisine is traditionally prepared. Origami Sushi provides a disappointingly dull experience and exposes its diners to unethical business practices. The service was poor to below average. For example, the waitress was unenthusiastic to greet my brother and me, and the food did not arrive promptly. The hot miso soup was a welcome amenity, however. The table ordered a shrimp spring roll, unagi maki, a rainbow roll, a spicy salmon roll, chicken teriyaki, Korean kalbi ribs, and a teriyaki bento. The spring roll arrived after around twenty minutes, and the entrées (without my teriyaki) followed along with the sushi after another fifteen (or more) minutes. My teriyaki came three minutes later. It was, unfortunately, not worth the wait. My unagi maki was poorly formed and seemed short, and my chicken teriyaki was warm and odd- tasting. I cook a lot at home, so I am familiar with the flavor of old chicken, which I tasted today. No amount of vinegar (an uncommon ingredient in teriyaki) can mask that, especially when the chicken is so fatty. After the dissapointing meal, the check came and was overpriced by $13.15. As I examined the receipt and the menu together, the waitress hurried over to inform me that she had "accidentally" added an extra unagi. This was strange because she did not come until she overheard me talking with my brother about it. I also learned that the menu has fine print on the cover that allegedly permits the restaurant to increase prices without notification. This resulted in an extra $4.65 charge overall. When I asked the waitress about it, she agreed that it was dishonest but referred to it as her management's decision. I strongly discourage eating at this dishonest restaurant with sub-standard, overpriced food. It is not worth the risk. read more

We drove from Puyallup to Silverdale to visit a family member at Saint Michael's. We have a trapper's sushi here and we absolutely love it. It is top-notch. But I looked at yelp and I saw that the Silverdale location only had three stars and there was Another sushi place that had really high stars, but they didn't open until five and this was around 3 PM. We didn't wanna wait for two hours before we visited our family, so we chose the one that had the second highest rating. That was origami. It had high ratings, it was open, and it was on the path to Saint Michael's. Seemed perfect. We ordered three items to go. It came out to $47. It was ready pretty quickly in about 15 minutes. We took it to the hospital, we thought it was unfortunate that at that moment, she did not feel up to eating anything, but that turned out to be a blessing. This was absolutely the worst sushi that we've ever had. I genuinely do not understand how the ratings have been so high. The only thing I can assume is that these are people coming in for bubble tea and not for sushi. What an expensive disappointment this food was. I am so glad we didn't end up giving her any. We ended up going to the cafeteria and eating hospital food. read more

When I parked in front of Origami, my first impression was of a rundown building that had seen better days. My second impression was that, based on the food-related signs posted on the outside, this place may not have any sushi worth eating. I figured I'd give it a shot, though, since I was already there. Inside was a bit more attractive, but not by much. The prettiest area is the sushi bar and the mural behind it. The rest of the place looks quite bare-bones. The tables were clean, but when I went in the ladies' room it smelled pretty bad, like it needs a good deep cleaning. Avoid the rest room if you can manage it. My waitress was pleasant and welcoming. I ordered 3 items: Hotata with Tobiko, Negi Hama roll, and Mariners roll. The Hotata was my favorite, with a creamy mayo blended with the scallop and roe, and a bit of shiso (at my request). The Negi Hama roll needed more green onion, and the nori was strangely chewy. The Mariners roll had a strange aftertaste rather than that clean sushi flavor that draws us all in, and again the nori was very chewy. After weighing all the pros and cons, I don't plan to return to this place. read more

This has been my favorite kitsap sushi for YEARS. I have tried the other sushi place at the Trails and I honestly thing is over prices and overrated. I would hands down choose Origami any day! It seems to be family owned and operated, service is great and the food is fantastic. Their menu is HUGE and so reasonably priced!! They have a good selection of domestic and import beer. I went to Origami before for their sushi, which was decent. Today I ordered a couple of Chinese dishes for take out instead. What a mistake! I'm Chinese American, so I know Chinese food. The Kung Pao pork (I wanted a change from the usual chicken) was unrecognizable as Kung Pao. So very disappointing! How can you screw up a basic Kung Pao dish? It was a white sauce, with no spice at all. To make things worse, I think the pork shreds were from old meat.... On the verge of smelling bad and with a grainy, mushy texture. All wrong. I asked when I ordered if the noodles in their Lo Mein was the actual thin Hong Kong egg noodles.... The woman said yes. The portion size was good, but the taste and texture of their Lo Mein was very off. My guess is they use dry noodles, then boil them up before stir frying. The texture of the noodles were grainy and mushy. Again, the pork used in the Lo Mein was old meat.... Bad smell, taste, and texture. I'm never getting Chinese food from here again. read more

Little gem with a vast menu. I have ordered from Origami Sushi multiple times and dined in a few times. I have always had such great 'no-nonsense' Japanese (etc.) food! I lived in Japan for five years and Origami is the closest sushi to Japan on Kitsap. DO NOT GO HERE!!! This place is filthy. I don't see what the allure is. A coworker recommended this place and man, it was a huge let down. As soon as you walk in, you will be greeted by supply boxes sitting on the floor. After being seated look around. You will be cabinets with broken doors and stuff just thrown in them. You will also see an older gentleman manhandling your sushi bare handed. This is after he rubs his face, messing with a light switch, and touching the thermostat. Not once did he wash his hands. You will also notice a dust-crusted fan above the bathroom hallway. Thank god it wasn't on and blowing its funk everywhere. Some people were walking out after being seated and not being served after about 15 minutes. I don't blame them. Against our better judgement, my wife and I ordered. Her chicken katsu bento box had tempura but no dipping sauce. The gyoza didn't have dipping sauce either. They didn't cut off the chicken fat prior to battering the katsu. There is nothing like eating chunks of battered chicken fat. Mmmmmm. We stopped eating mid way through the meal because it didn't taste good. We asked for to-go boxes so we could get out of there. When i put my leftovers katsu into the box, i exposed a heavily stained plate that was nasty (see picture). Hell, see all the pictures. I don't know how this passes health inspections. Our leftovers went into the trash when we got home. Go to a clean place with better quality sushi for about the same price. The exterior wiring, i am sure, is not up to code. read more

As my 2nd ever venue to eat at in the state of WA and the Kitsap Peninsula for that matter, I think I have found another winner for sure. Having just tried sushi for the first time a little over a month ago back in central WI (my home town) I had to see what the good stuff was like out in the PNW. Origami was no let down by any means. My roommate suggested we go here and since he knows more about the area then I do, I agreed to check it out. We each got an app and then split 5 rolls. I got the shrimp spring roll he got the miso. The rolls we got were: Deep Sea, Spicy Tuna, California, Rainbow, and Origami Roll. All were very good indeed but I may give a slight edge to the deep sea roll as its crunch and tempura coating just melted in your mouth! Most of the rolls had 8-10 pieces each so its enough to make a meal of if you eat a 2 rolls or more yourself. Service was fast and friendly, prices were great ($23 split bill without drinks or tip). I hate to admit it but this place has and edge over my hometown sushi joint in Madison, WI but hey, it is what it is and my taste buds spoke the truth last night. I will be back again for sure as this place also has a full menu aside from sushi that looked equally as pleasing as our selection of sushi did on this visit. read more

First, I couldn't find this place while on a brief lunch break. When I finally found it and came inside there were two other people having lunch at the sushi bar area. It smelled really funny and unpleasant... not sure if it was fishy, trash, etc. But it had a very funny smell inside... still, I was hungry and it took me forever to find it so I was willing to give it a try. I was quickly seated and given a menu. A few other people came in just after me and were seated. I ordered the california roll and an avocado and cucumber roll. The roll was brought to me within probably 5 minutes. It seemed fresh but the rice was hot and the cucumber and avocado was hot too... so while it wasn't nasty and nothing was brown, it was weird because I'm used to those things being cool and fresh when you put them in your mouth... Either way I ate them, they weren't revolting, and I was quickly given my ticket and paid. It served its purpose for a quick sushi fix on my lunch break before heading back to work but it wasn't delicious and it smelled funny and looked pretty seedy inside... just something about the place made me feel that if I ate there too many times I'd probably get sick. I have tried this restaurant a few times over the years....always hoping the food will be better, but it never is. The wait staff is really nice....that's the only positive thing I can say about my experience. I ordered fresh shrimp spring rolls and they were unlike any other spring roll I have ever had. The shrimp were poor quality, there was almost no vermicelli noodles in it, the lettuce had other stuff mixed in ( not sure what was in there ) and the whole inside of the spring roll was drenched in peanut shards. Every bite was a nasty mouthful of peanut shard crunch. It was the most TERRIBLE thing. And the peanut sauce, blech. SO thick and pasty with disgusting flavor. The salmon nigri was the highlight of the meal and it was sub par. POOR quality fish. None of the sushi rice was seasoned well and it was really dry/hard. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy. It was a piece of tuna with 'spicy' orange sauce. More poor quality fish and terribly made. The spider roll ..... .....they overcooked and burnt the soft shell crab. It tasted like a gnarly piece of burnt chicken. And the salmon roll was poor quality salmon too. Sushi is pricey and I don't want anyone to waste their money on bad food. I do not know how their hot meals taste but I won't be going back to find out. read more

Had a spicy tuna roll, and a California roll, which are my choices when eating sushi for the first time at a new place (so that I can compare apples to apples). Rice was mushy, just not right, and unacceptable given that this is the foundation of sushi (ever watch Shiro Dreams of Sushi?). The tuna was pale and tasteless, if it was even tuna. The CA roll was better, but just not OK. They're tempura looked good though, and I wished I'd ordered that. Most of the menu items were kind of expensive too, like a bento over $20. The staff was friendly enough and eager to give attention to surrounding guests. The prices didn't seem too bad...but maybe matched the quality of food. We hated everything we ordered which is truly unlike us. Even the smell was a bit off putting and the food was really greasy-even the fresh sushi rolls. Was on a road trip and the place we were going to go was closed (we missed them by 10 minutes) so we thought we'd give this place a try. No complimentary tea or Miso soup - waitress was "rushed", couldn't answer any questions (even though there were only 2 other tables). I'm impressed! After living here for over 10 years and never trying Origami, I decided to give it a shot! I was, and have been, craving sushi lately and after going here, I know where I'll go from now on! Talk about selection! The menu is absolutely huge! It's all over the place too, something for everybody and all tastes. Not just sushi folks! My husband doesn't care for sushi and has no desire to make a meal out of it so he needs choices, choices, choices. At Origami, that's exactly what you get! It's a small, old building that is "questionable" but when you walk in, it's warm and local and comfortable. We were greeted by the very pleasant staff and given just the right amount of time to peruse the menu (it takes awhile). Our order took no time at all, waters were filled continually and servers checked on us throughout our meal. I had three rolls, the California Roll (keeping it classically simple for the first time), the Crunchy Roll (another simple one) and the Spider Roll (soft shell crab). I didn't think it was possible to eat three rolls but they were addictingly good and I scarfed every bite! My husband got the Yakisoba Noodles with beef and enjoyed them although they were a bit sweet for his tastes. We brought home some Shrimp Phad Thai for our daughter and she said it was perfect and not as "peanut buttery" as some. We also ordered drinks (they have a full bar) and the drinks were spot on, perfect drinks (surprise in my voice)!! All in all, our experience at Origami was A+! We'll definitely be returning, sooner than hubby probably wants to as his true love is Italian!! Oh, the reason for a four star rating instead of five is that I would have liked to see some kind of sampler plate or something like that. Origami Sushi looks like a total dump, but damn, does it satisfy. I and five fellow out-of-towners were maximizing our only true day of sight-seeing and we needed, I stress, NEEDED to get sushi before heading from the Sequim area to SEA to catch our red-eye. We had tried to get sushi for lunch in the University of Washington area, but every sushi place we found was closed on Sundays. One of the people in the group with an iPhone found this place on urbanspoon and we headed there blindly, not sure what we were going to find. What we found was deliciousness. Don't let it's sketchy exterior fool you. Or be concerned when the host looks to be 12 years old. Don't get freaked out by the really big space heater in the single-stall bathroom (fire hazard, anyone?) or the fact that the area in front of the bathrooms is separated from the sushi bar by a bedsheet. I actually didn't get the sushi, but my dining companions who did judged it to be of acceptable quality at a decent price. My beef soup was very yummy, and the bubble tea I ordered for dessert was huge and delicious. Small detail: the fortunes in the fortune cookies we received with our bill were the most insightful I've ever read, and not in a sappy way. It's these little details that would make me want to return were living in the Bremerton area. read more
