I went to Taste after spending the day in South Haven, and I have to say it was very nice! The ambiance was great and the actual design of the restaurant was well executed. I got the turkey sandwich with a side of the coconut rice. And both were exceptionally good. The sushi also looked very well, and so did the tapas. The portions were perfect; not too big, but not too small. The service was also good which added to the overall experience. I definitely recommend this place if you are in South Haven! Keep in mind it fills up quick, so if you aren't getting there right when they open you'll probably want to make a reservation! read more

Food was great! Service, not so much. It took forever to have our server come to take our order. I get we asked for some time to have our wine before dinner but so much time had gone by that when she did come back we figured we better order or we wouldn't see her again. Then while we were in the middle of eating, I overheard another server at a nearby table telling her guests about specials for the evening. One of which we would've ordered had we known about it. About the food, it was good except the blue cheese and honey with ciabatta needed more ciabatta on the side. When I asked for more, our server brought 4 more slices. Truly not enough for the amount of cheese/honey mix in the dish. The ribs were good. A bit more bbq sauce than I like but they were still good. The Korean chicken was over the top delicious with the perfect amount of flavor and crispy chicken. The mac & cheese was so creamy and cheesy without an overwhelming amount of salt. The blue gill was just as good. Not greasy and perfectly crunchy bonus, no fishy taste either, definitely worth going back for. The restaurant was crowded so make sure you make a reservation well in advance. The group in front of us accidentally made their resy for the wrong night and had to wait 1-1/2 hrs. This is a perfect place to dine in. The food and service are outstanding. I highly reccomend the Salmon,jerk shrimp and bread and butter from the Small Playes menu, and the Elderflower Breeze Martini. We were surprisingly pleased by this place. We walked in to grab a bite to eat. We were able to immediately sit at the bar instead of waiting for a table. I started with the South Beach martini and it was really good. My husband had something on tap. We started with the seafood dip app which was SOOO good. Our food came quickly after, but I was too busy stuffing the seafood dip in my mouth. My husband had the chicken and cilantro rice. I had the beef sandwich. Both were very good. I was pretty full after pretty much eating all the dip, but my husband was happy to help me finish the beef sandwich. Everything was really good. Service was friendly and quick. We had an absolutely delightful experience at Taste! We didn't make a reservation -- so we walked in around 8pm on a Thursday night and was told there would be an hour wait. We were added to their virtual waitlist where you can track your spot in line -- so we were able to go back to our place and regroup while we waited but we weren't stressed about scrambling back due to knowing our spot in the queue. Our waitress was so friendly. We both got a glass of wine and it ended up being served in a little carafe pretty equivalent to two glasses. Amazing, love that. We had a salad, scallops, and a couple other things. The food was pretty good. We also got tiramisu and it was yummy! If ever back in South Haven, I will be making a stop at Taste. read more

We left to go get some drinks and came back in around 1.5 hrs and was seated shortly after. Waitress was friendly but I could see she was super busy. It took a little bit to put in our dirty martini order but food came pretty quickly. Usually I'm hesitant about small plates but the portions were pretty sizable and not overpriced Scallops - not fishy at all and super tender. One year later and Taste is better than ever. Dining room and bar were remodeled since last season. Menu is still great! I had a house salad, a tuna cilantro roll, and the Bay Scallops Scampi. All were fantastic. Big martinis with blue cheese olives...excellent. Great service from Ryan. Taste is the best restaurant in SoHa and has been for a long time. Taste has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat in South Haven. Known for their small plates and martinis, Taste deliveries on both accounts. Not feeling either? They've got you covered with a full bar as well as sushi, salads and sandwiches. My small plate standbys: steak filet (also available as an entree.. Which I've also done) and blackened chicken. The rest I switch up based on my mood. Chef Joel also creates a daily Mac and Cheese special. Some examples of the daily Specials I've seen include pizza Mac and Cheese, Gouda and Mushroom as well as a brisket Mac and Cheese. I've literally gone down the list when it comes to drinks. The Dirty Detroit is a pickle-based cocktail thats another go to. Limited reservations are available and you can check the waitlist on Yelp. There is also a semi-private room that seats 12. Perfect place for a cozy dinner, celebration or dinning in after the beach. Their menu has a variety of items like small plates, sushi, sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts and drinks. I'd highly recommend ordering a few different small plates and trying out their different items. In the past I've had their sandwiches and those are very excellent as well. Can't go wrong with the seafood dip and pita, it's very tasty and light. YUUUM. (It's stupid good) The Korean bbq chicken has the perfect charred pieces, it's sweet, it's savory, it's crunchy--it's all the things you'd want! The Cuban shrimp was also very light and flavorful. The beet and goat cheese salad was good, it comes with a vinaigrette which isn't sour or overwhelming. My husband and I split the cookie pie for dessert, it's delicious. It's a soft warm cookie with ice cream and whipped cream--buttery and sweet but not in an artificial way! They do have a standard drink menu with reasonable prices. Wines, cocktails, beer. Etc I've never tried their sushi but it looked really good--some parties next to us had sushi and from what I could tell--they enjoyed it! Our server was very attentive even though it was so busy during our recent trip. She was fast and made sure we had everything. I got to try Taste while visiting South Haven with some friends, and was pleasantly surprised at the experience! I wasn't sure what to expect from the small little beach town restaurant, but was happy to see the variety on their menu! The name definitely says it all: Taste. Each thing we ordered were definitely taste sizing bites - shared amongst 4 - we got 6 items and it was not enough haha we should have gotten 2 per person at a minimum. I was a little disappointed in the Korean Chicken BBQ because there were like 3 bites of chicken total, but the flavoring was good. We tried to order the hummus but it was sent to the wrong table and our server was apologetic, but bummed to hear that the hummus we ordered was out so they would make a new chef special (it included cheddar? We ordered hummus because we wanted it to be dairy free...) so unfortunately, we did not get to try it. We also had a few servers come to our table with food multiple times that we didn't order, so it was a bit disappointing that we could have had a great experience but were left unattended and hungry. However, don't let the 3 stars fool you - I think the quality was good, just know you're getting tapa size items, and if you're hungrier, just order more. I will say though, I enjoyed the experience, just wish the service was more prompt and we could get the food we ordered in a timely manner. While, I do want to try it again to see if our experience is better next time, I think we'll have to gauge our hunger level before placing orders. We could have ordered more, but due to the initial food wait time, we didn't want to bother. read more
