**WARNING** This is a lengthy review and you WILL be hungry after reading!…read more Just outside Perth and a short detour from the A9 lies Tibbermore (I know, cute right!), a typical 'blink and you'll miss it' kinda place, but really, just don't blink cos this place is awesome! It really does have it all - fresh fruit and vegetables all leafy and colourful, a gin lovers corner, wonderful cheese and meats deli, health foods section including a variety a GF flours, breads and oatcakes (try their own oatcakes, completely different from the brand that sounds like Talkers but sooo much tastier!), tray upon tray of freshly laid eggs...I could go on but you get the idea! And that's just the food section! They also have a glorious gift section where I could've easily spent a small fortune. Everything from kitchen gadgets to picnic baskets, kiddie gifts to Emma Bridgewater pottery and everything in between. I spotted a few local producers too which I loved as I always like to see locals businesses supporting each other. Then there's the café/restaurant which has a few outdoor tables but plenty inside if they're taken; the day I visited it was glorious but somehow we got lucky and got a table outside (my shoulders can prove that #scottishtan!...). The menu has lots of tasty options incorporating as much of their own produce as possible - I opted for the Homemade Chicken Liver pate while my parents both had the Smoked Ayrshire Ham & Gloagburn Curried Banana Chutney sandwich (Dad went hunting for the ham to buy later he was that impressed!). Once decided, we had to go inside and order at the counter; I'm not sure if this was due to us sitting outside or standard practise as when we asked for a second round of coffees (and some more oatcakes for me as I'd ran out!), a waitress came over with one of those electronic hand-held thingys to take that order so I wondered why she couldn't have done that initially, anyway, not really a star-affecting issue. Pricewise, we were just shy of £10/head for a sandwich and coffee (exc our 2nd coffee round), a tad steep but it's all fresh and local produce so I don't mind paying that when you know you're getting good quality (and it really was!). Given it's out-the-way location it's a busy wee place but worth the trip as you could easily spend a couple of hours here eating and browsing. There's plenty parking available and even a small play area for kids. Farm Shops like this don't come around too often, which is a shame as they really are wee gems of places!

However the only one we did not like surprisingly was the carrot cake. It was just weirdly dense not cakie and like juicy its a bit weird to explain but just wasnt our favorite. Everything else though awesome and the food is just superb! I think my favorite was the vegan fry or haggis toastie if you like a bit of sweet and salty combo! Having had brunch here previously, heading here for lunch was something I was excited about. It was very busy this time round so service was understandably a little slower. We did have a short wait for a table but it really wasn't long till we were seated considering it was peak lunching hour. Oh my word. Sandwich heaven. I had the bacon and mozzarella baguette with hot salsa and guacamole and it was absolutely delicious. Lots of cheese, lots of bacon, lots of yum. The Hideaway is just the perfect spot for tea and cake, I definitely want to sample their baked goods soon. Very, very soon!

It was not too late! I think we both went with the "Wee Yin," which was only £6 and came with an egg, meat (lorne sausage for me), bacon, a tattie scone, beans, and toast. I don't think I have a small appetite, but this was plenty. (The "Big Yin" adds additional good stuff for £2.5 more: haggis, black pudding, and mushrooms. I'd have to wait till the next morning to get some haggis and black pudding...) This was simple but hearty eating, and very satisfying at the midpoint of a drive from Skye back to the Edinburgh area. Spean Bridge is a charming little place, and this spotless cafe is colorful, has plenty of natural light, and a cheerful air to it. At one point, a couple of the young servers picked up instruments (acoustic guitar and accordion) just behind us, and I thought we were going to be subjected to acoustic jam versions of pop songs, just like those dreaded at a certain chain sandwich shop in the States. But this was pretty great, just an interlude of a couple of sprightly yet gentle instrumentals, and then they were back to their tables. Excellent spot.

*This is actually a review for the Perth store*…read more So we decided to have one last meal before the weekend ends so we decide to drive through Callendar and head to Perth's Frankie & Benny's. We get seated almost straight away by the assertive hostess next to the kitchen (my favourite spot) We decide to have the usual - burgers. I chose the bacon cheeseburger and my partner chose the construct my own cheeseburger (sometimes it's like dining with a 5 year old). It took all of five minutes for it to come out and be served to us and it was delicious! I even enjoyed the relish which was mixed with a sweet BBQ sauce and the fries were cooked perfectly. My partner ordered the cheeseburger with the salad on the side, along with chips and relish. The chips were piping-hot - an apparent rarity in most restaurants nowadays (why is it so difficult to ensure food reaches the table at a satisfactory temperature??) where the standard offering is lukewarm coffee served with a portion of yesterday's nachos. These chips had a slight crunch then a perfectly fluffy filling - excellent! The salad was fresh and tasted fantastic with the relish - I'm not even sure what was in the relish but I wanted more. Lastly the burger; something I've failed to be impressed with at F&B's previously! The burger was cooked to perfection, the cheese melted into the meat - the flavour of which seemed to be intensified by the relish. Almost cleared my plate if it wasn't for that pesky bun! We then decided to have a sweet and deliberated over the four different types of waffles: chocolate and honeycomb, mint, banoffee or cinnamon... but then we were faced with another impossible choice... what about the cheesecakes??! My kryptonite! There was: vanilla, salt and caramel or peanut butter cheesecake. So we decided that one of us would choose a waffle and the other a cheesecake and we'd share (I'm nice like that). Now for the hilarious part. I asked the hostess if I could charge my iPhone somewhere as I had a hundred mile journey and was at 16% left! She agreed to charge it at a counter for me. Just before we ordered our dessert I went to "check on my phone", but really I was making our amazing waiter Jordan (shoutout!) aware that it was my boyfriend's birthday and he said "say no more". Suddenly the lights went out for a third time to celebrate someone's birthday and my partner says "oh who's next? That's the third time!" Unbeknownst to him it was for him! His face was 'not-amused face emoji'! But I was 'crying with laughter-faced emoji! We chose the mint waffles which comprised of a cinnamon waffle with two scoops of mint ice cream and the peanut butter cheesecake with peanut butter ice cream - amazing! Lastly, I ordered a coffee and being the coffee fiend that I am, really enjoyed it, I've no idea what blend it was but it tasted different to anything I've had in any local Frankie & Benny's. Jordan was so nice when getting our bill that he took my partner's meal off of the bill as a birthday treat! Fantastic service and well-worth a visit the next time you're passing! A really good end to a perfect week.

Pricing felt a little steep, but the amount of food that came out put my mind at ease. We both enjoyed our food immensely, including the fries. My club had a chicken breast which was a nice surprise. My only complaint was that the bread was slightly dry - so my mouth feels scratches at the moment, but it was still a good sandwich.
