This is how our soup was served to us. (The container was full though)

We usually stop at Taste of Saigon when in Canal Park. We didn't realize they had changed to a no service establishment. You order at the counter, give them your name and either take-out or sit in the dining room. We ordered wonton soup and egg rolls since the menu had changed and some of our favorites were no longer available. We sat in the dining room and were surprised when they called our name. Our food was on a tray, soup in two plastic take-out containers, with no plates or bowls. The soup broth was good but the wontons were filled with a pasty, flavorless filling and so large we had trouble cutting them apart since they didn't provide knives. We had to cut them apart with the plastic soup spoon. It was awkward eating the soup from a container. The egg rolls were not good so after a few bites we put them back in the cellophane bag to throw away. I don't like giving bad reviews of places that are family owned but I have to be honest with this one (if it is still family owned). The gentleman taking orders was friendly and tried to explain how they don't have servers and are short on kitchen staff thus menu items are limited. Not sure if they will make a go of it or not. Sad because it's in a convenient location in Canal Park.

Service is super fast, so fast in fact that all of the food (appetizers, drinks & main course) all came at the same time. Food was really hot and fresh but the taste was just ok, asked for spicy but dishes didn't have much of a kick. It's in the heart of the downtown shopping district so it has a lot of traffic and seems they are used to serving and moving big crowds. Not a bad place if you're really craving Asian food.

Pho was better than I thought. A bit on the bland side though. Loved the shrimp cashew dish! That was a favorite of the night. The spicy chicken lemongrass was also good. The only disappointment was the lo mein though. As for the Vietnamese food, Taste of Saigon was more like a Chinese restuarant with a few vietnamese dishes on the side. It really is only a small taste of Saigon.

I wish I could give this place a better review, but I was so disappointed. I was looking forward to good Vietnamese food, but their menu is more Chinese. They only had one bun salad, so I went with that thinking you just can't go wrong. The salad only had 4 ingredients: vermicelli noodles, eggrolls, ice berg lettice and the sauce. What an upset. I expect cilantro and mint in my bun... cucmber and pickled carrots & dikon all seem standard. The eggroll was really garlicky to boot. :(

Run of the mill Chinese restaurant. Food is what you'd expect, but the service, price, and portion sizes were excellent.

The food was...edible. Avoid the mystery meat egg rolls and the General Tso's. Maybe it was an off night. Great service though!

Their food is top notch and their service is excellent, always very consistently fresh and prices are very cheap, $20+ for two dinners.

Look, I really don't want to be harsh, but I have no idea how this restaurant has so many positive…read morereviews AND repeat customers. As an Asian American, there is absolutely NOTHING remotely authentic about this menu, in fact, it reeks a bit of cultural appropriation and borders on offensive. The fact that they use the term "oriental" to describe their cuisine speaks volumes. I ordered an array of items to try, and each one was more disappointing than the previous one. It seemed like the chef just put popular dish items on the menu and then whipped up whatever he/she had back there. At one point, I honestly thought I was being punked...that some of the dishes were a joke. See photos of my food items to judge for yourself. The "chow mein" is especially embarrassing. To add insult to injury, each dish is upwards of $11, and you could pan fry some top ramen noodles that tasted better than these dishes. The entire restaurant staff was Caucasian, including one of the chefs, who I saw come from the kitchen to hand deliver a take-out order. I have a hard time coming to terms with believing that this is what Midwest folks think is Asian cuisine, let alone GOOD Asian cuisine, especially when you have a decent Chinese buffet down the street. I have NO problem with restaurants serving "homemade" food, but don't try to pawn it off as anything remotely "oriental" when you haven't even made a basic attempt to recreate anything with any semblance of Asian flavor. I will say this - the staff was extremely warm and friendly, and the customer service was great. But sadly, that's not enough to get me to return.
