We have been enjoying Beijing Restaurant since the early 90's when we would come to Duluth. It was always our go to meal when we had kids cause they loved the broccoli in the chicken with mixed veggies It had been years since we've ordered from Beijing. We were thrilled with our old favorites! We had our chicken with mixed vegetables, and sweet and sour chicken with sauce on the side along with their sesame sauce on the side! Soooo wonderful! Very good choice for inexpensive Chinese food. Both of our entree's were excellent and there was plenty of left-overs to take home. I had the shrimp egg foo young and fried rice; both were quite good. We were the only customers in the shop, and service could have been a little more attentive; the staff was distracted by (very important to them) family things. And the interior (formerly a Pizza Hut) is relatively shabby, but clean. We live several hours north and will likely get carry-out in the future to bring home and enjoy. read more

Many years ago this place was solid, back when it was at the location across from Super One. We are talking hangover cure for the college student in me. I tried it the other day after 20 years being absent and the noodles tasted like they expired long ago and the inside of the restaurant looked like it had not been cleaned in six months. Really did enjoy this spot in Duluth and I look forward you stopping in again when I return to town. They were operating and doing take out only due to the lovely COVID and slammed as can be. This place was hopping with phone calls and customers waiting to order as well as pickup. You never would have known by how awesome the staff was and how efficient they were WITHOUT losing their friendly demeanor. They found out we were from Oregon and took the time to offer up a bunch of spots to see while in town as well as places that would be good to eat our takeout. I was totally impressed with this team and knew I would be back, all without having tried the food yet. The food was good, just as I expected it to be and the portions were huge! Absolutely excellent food. Huge portions. We try and eat in although they have carryout and delivery. Staff is tiny so need to order from the counter. Interior is very spartan and could use significant upgrading. Little Chinese ambiance. Wish they had better beverage selection (everything in cans and bottles) including fresh-brewed hot and cold tea. And a little beer or wine would be nice, too. My "go to" restaurant since moving to Duluth. I've tried several items but my favorites are the egg rolls, happy family, house fried rice and house egg foo young. Great prices, large portions. Sometimes they are so busy you can't get through to place an order. Online ordering option would be great! Placed a delivery order and service was quick and friendly. Portions are large and we were pleased with the quality of the chicken (we ordered sesame chicken and sweet & sour). The food was packaged in heavy duty plastic containers, which was a lot sturdier than your typical takeout paper containers. Fried rice was just okay, could have had more flavor. Ideas for improvements: 1. Egg roll was very heavy--would have preferred a thinner wrap so it didn't feel so greasy 2. Shrimp in fried rice was not deveined. I'm guessing this is typical for restaurants in the area, but just a word of warning for anyone who's a little squeamish about chowing down on a shrimp's digestive tract. I've been a loyal customer of Beijing's since they were on east Superior St., and they've been a consistent, strong contender in the Chinese food category. Last night, however, elevated them in my experience to inspire me to write this review. I ordered takeout from about 1 1/2 miles away last night at about 7:30 p.m. I ordered two pork eggrolls and their pork Lo Mein, and the food arrived HOT, FRESH, AND 15 MINUTES LATER!!! the eggrolls were fresh and crispy on the outside with a fried donut-like, creamy soft inside with the right amount of filling to set it off. The Lo Mein was equally fresh, with tender noodles cooked just right. The vegetables in the Lo Mein were also fresh and crispy. My only caveat in this review would be the heavy oil in the Lo Mein-- they could hold back a bit. Next time, I may order 'off-rush hour' again, and get a giant order of their Krispy-Kreme-like, cold weather-satisfying egg rolls! Highly recommend. My go-to chinese delivery place. Just be aware that their "Diet Special" section (and maybe others, I'm not to prolific in my menu exploration) comes as three separate containers of Rice, Steamed Ingredients, and Sauce. You have to combine them yourself, don't be expecting a single container of Main and Side that you can just mow down on. But for all their other menu items, have chopsticks will travel. read more

I don't understand the positive reviews because my experience was definitely not positive. The food was so so and it made my family ill. Positives: 1. The portions were massive relative to the cost. 2. The food came pretty quickly. Negatives: 1. The cashier with the pink hair had a negative and rude attitude. 2. There was no waiting service yet they expected a tip on the receipt. 3. The setup was generally awkward. I would describe it as a poor attempt at casual dining. 4. The tables and seats were filthy and duct taped seats. 5. The meal was unbalanced and was purely fat, carbs, and salt. I had three small pieces of broccoli. 6. Beijing used to the gold standard for Chinese food in my book. We ordered there for the first time in over a year today and it was so disappointing. TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE!!! I am not the most picky of eaters, but this place was AWFUL!!! The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way about the place was that they only take cash. (I mean, come on, it's 2012 already!) The man behind the counter un-apologetically told me that I had to go to the ATM in the grocery store across the street first. Maybe with all the traveling I do, I have higher standards? I have no idea why ANYONE would rate this place 4 or 5 stars. I ordered two appetizers, the General Tso's chicken and the duck. All of it was mediocre to terrible! I have never been more disappointed by a place in my life. The service was lousy, (you just order at the counter, but they were not at all friendly or helpful,) the atmosphere SUCKED and the food was terrible! I even had to spit out my fortune cookie! (The cookie tasted rotten!) I immediately left and drank several beers to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Perhaps the people reviewing this place well were employees or owners of the business? My 1 star might seem hypocritical since I do eat here often, but that is mostly related to the lack of good/cheap Chinese places in Duluth. PROS: It's super cheap, their Gral Tso's Chicken is good, their portions are big, they deliver, their menu is extensive, they have a lunch menu and half order sizes. Their food is actually ok to good (at least most things). CONS: This place is uuuugly, it looks shifty, it doesn't look very clean at all and I have gotten pieces of plastic in my soup twice. Also, for the love of God don't get their duck! I got a box of assorted bones with a little bit of very stale duck meat.. it was kinda gross. So, for cheap takeout or delivery... there are really not that many similar options around here, so I take it. read more

Been here a few times within the past few months, ordered General Taos chicken with house fried rice every time because it tastes great. The restaurant is in an ideal location. The food portions are ginormous. Expect to have leftovers - in fact, the left overs taste better than when immediately served. The place is small but efficient wouldn't be able to handle large groups of diners consecutively. The service makes it feel like it's a fast food restaurant. You basically are serving yourself after you pay before you eat. Which I felt the tip I paid for before my food was delivered was too much for the neglected service I've received. The waitresses were unprofessional (teen girls wearing very short shorts) and didn't approach our table once after the food was brought. When they were at their first location on Superior St, I LOVED their Kung Pao Chicken! I ordered it time and again. It was perfect! I don't know how or why it is that in their new place on London Rd, their food tastes terrible! The Kung Pao Chicken is no longer spicy enough, and where's all the chicken? What happened to the chopped peanuts they used to put on top? Maybe it's in there buried under all that rice? It seems like a watered down version of its former self. The General Tso's chicken is better tasting than my old favorite, and it is spicy enough, though not as spicy as at their former location. All that chicken is breaded and fried, and underneath all that batter, where's the chicken? That's not appealing to me, so I can only give them 2 stars. Before the pieces were smaller with seemingly more chicken since there was less batter. AHHHH Beijing!!! Not the most quaint place to eat and the owners could do a lot to bring their "class" factor up (ie: clean the bejezzes out of the place) but the food is EXCELLENT! Do not let the atmosphere deter you - go in during lunch and see that every table is full - the public gets it! Their food is as authentic as its going to get in Duluth and they DELIVER!!! If you're put off by the location, have a picnic at the Rose Garden or delivery and eat at home. Their steamed dumplings and ginger sauce are to die for!
