My first and last time ordering from here....My Peeking Beef was nearly all celery.....So we ordered Peeking Beef....we ended up getting Peeking Celery!( not a real dish just a joke) 95% of the dish was vegetables/celery...note on the pic I added, we did remove all of the beef for dinner and half of what we removed included celery. Place is 3rd generation Dulutians with a history of Union employees before a retard cleaning guy making French fries burned the place down and they relocated to present spot and downsized. It is very hard to do business in Duluith with the leftist progressives making too many demands on small business. Most reasonable price good food has moved to Superior Wisconsin and the rest here are tourist traps. Chopsticks still tries to keep the costs down for working and retired folks to enjoy. Had a take out order for our family. We have ordered from here before with good results, but this experience was so disappointing I doubt we will again. Sesame chicken: chicken was obviously frozen prepackaged food. Looked exactly like Tyson popcorn chicken honestly. The sauce was greasy, bland and for some reason totally devoid of sesame. Lo Mein: pretty sure a lot of this was frozen too. The vegetables were soggy. Noodles sticky. Again, flavorless. Mongolien beef: 90% onions. Literally had to search for beef in it at all. read more

Huie's offers an American-Chinese dining experience that is wholly enjoyable. The first thing that sets Huie's apart is that it offers no buffet at lunchtime. Everything you eat will be cooked fresh for you. My Szechuan Chicken was "Minnesota Hot" (e.g. mild as can be), but its lack of heat was more than made up for by the plentiful chunks of fresh chicken, perfectly fried. The fried rice was light and not greasy, with bits of roast pork adding their sweet/salty goodness to the party. The tea actually tasted of tea, unlike the usual free tea. All of this can be yours for less than you'd pay at Leeann Chin or the local barfet. I later learned that the owners of this restaurant have a family connection to the late, lamented Chinese Lantern. You can still order "Joe's Shrimp" from the Lantern, in fact, and I will probably do that the next time I am here. Pretty much all Duluthians of a certain age remember the Chinese Lantern - hands down the best Chinese restaurant in town. Until it burned down. Instead of rebuilding the owners downsized and opened Chopsticks. Chopsticks is a fraction the size and the atmosphere of the Lantern. BUT. The food is the same! I have not been here for years but on a recent trip home my mom and I were craving Chinese food so we decided Chopsticks would be the place to go. My favorite thing ever is the chicken wings with oyster sauce. It's gotta be a Duluth thing because I've never found them in any other city. They sound weird but they are delicious, trust me. I got them with the lunch combo - wings, fried rice and an egg roll. So good! My mom ordered chicken chow mein and she said it was as good as ever. As we were eating the staff came out and they were eating lunch family style at the style next to us. As they were eating they were speaking Chinese. That's how you know it's a good Chinese place! Don't be turned off by the run down exterior - this place is great. Or if you just can't get past the door you can always get delivery. read more

First, the food tasted fine once I got it. However, for the second visit in a row the English speaking cook was yelling from the kitchen blaming everyone for a problem and refusing to help fix it. Continuing to argue making things very awkward for their staff and more importantly the customers waiting for our orders. He is an embarrassment to Chopsticks and should not be employed with the blatant disrespect to co-workers and customers alike. We been going here for 11 years now tonight was the end and worst expierierience ever at this place son had general TSO chicken and pork friend rice he said it was rubbery and sweet tasting.the cooks came to the table said you pay 30% the waitress called Wendy the manager she waved the cost cooks yelled GO to Hell Wendy my plate I ordered subgum chicken with sweet sour chicken never have they put sauce on our chicken it was also rubbery and soggy my crunchy noodles were swimming in juice and soggy .they need to learn customer service and not yell or swear in a public restaurant. Order Green Pepper steak with tomato, fried rice with egg foo young. Plus other items on menu. It was delivered to a handicap. Service was by a senior citizen who gave wonderful service. The order was very generous with portions. Very tasty. Very reasonably priced. The Chicken fingers were huge and much more then ten piece that I order for my Pomeranians so I can eat my dinner in peace. It was more bang for your buck than other delivered food. Other food is getting so grill tastes of last order made on it. Chopstick inn uses a wok and tasty is fresh and not over done. Huey Family has been cooking in DULUTH for generations and warehouses drivers say they only use top quality items in their purchases. You must get your iPad out to fine what each item is on the menu. I think it was about a dime size smear wallowing in an oily mess in very thick wonton think pasta thick... ~ Nice... uh.... not... Let's not forget about the hair, yes, that is a hair in the food. I first thought... hmmm long stringy vegetable thing and then I kept pulling and pulling... and pulling... wiping off strand... and saw it indeed appeared to be a hair... a real hair! Into the trash bin, it went. I would suggest staying away from "cream cheese wontons" because they really are wantnots. We order from here all the time, usually takeout. We ordered the other night during the coronavirus lockdown. I paid for the order over the phone to simplify pickup. My husband went to pick up our food (no curbside pickup). When he went inside there were several other people standing by the front door waiting for their order. My husband was the only one wearing a mask and one guy was coughing. Not even the employee taking orders and money wore a mask. Been many years since I ate from here. When I first came to Duluth it was one of two of my go to places for Chinese because both were nearby but I since found much better. I have ordered from here twice now in the past couple months. The first time I ordered the Joe Huie's Fried Shrimp to see what people were raving about, and a quart of pork fried rice and had them add extra eggs, onions and bean sprouts. For me, the telltale signs of a good Chinese place is their fried rice and egg roll. If they do those well, chances are everything else will be good. The shrimp were good. Nothing Chinese about them but many people rave so I had to find out. They are served with french fries. They are large butterflied shrimp in panko bread crumbs and a very good portion. The problem was the oil. It obviously had been a long time since the fryer oil had been changed so everything was very greasy. The fries were dark and almost transparent from the dirty oil. The shrimp were also but still somewhat edible. I did eat them all. The fried rice.... I could not taste anything but burned oil. They had the wok oil beyond smoking. Was not a happy camper. FF a couple months and I tried it again. Same order except I ordered a pint of Young Chow fried rice. This time both the shrimp and fries were 100% better. Not greasy at all. Shrimp were well seasoned. Very good. If you like fried shrimp, it's probably the best in town and at a very good price. They have a lunch and dinner portion. Both times I got the dinner portion and there is plenty. I was disappointed in the Young Chow fried rice. It had pork, chicken, pea pods, carrots, onions, water chestnuts, etc. Cooked properly this time but it really had no flavor at all. So now I remember why I searched out and found better Chinese food in Duluth. I grew up eating at the best places in Minneapolis. Nankin, Howard Wong's, Port Arthur, etc. so I am picky. There is much better Chinese in Duluth. There are 2 places I really like. Not quite on par with those Mpls institutions of old, but they are good and better than Chopsticks Inn. If you like fried shrimp I do recommend this place for that. It's on the American menu. Just hope you get there when their fryer oil is clean. If you want good Chinese, there are better options. A few reviews here have this place confused with Chef Yee's which used to be next to the old Pioneer Bar on west 4th St. This place is on the east end of 4th St. Chef Yee's was my other go to place when I first moved to Duluth. They have the best pork fried rice! I liked how my entree was made with the sauce (general tso) on the side. I could dip the chicken (great, REAL, white meat chicken-fried) into the sauce and also pour it on the rice as well. Egg rolls were just ok, and the sesame chicken was under sauced. This was my go to Chinese food when I lived in Duluth. I typically got the mu-shu pork or shrimp, Kung pao chicken or shrimp, or general tso's take out. This place seemed to use better ingredients than most American-Chinese places I have eaten which set it apart for me. One time there was a misunderstanding with an order over the phone and they corrected it for me without any additional charge (allowing me to keep the mistaken item). Well, this WAS my favorite Chinese until they recently hiked their prices by 27%!!! I was going to order delivery tonight, same thing as usual, price is always $24.01. When they quoted me $30.60, I said that can't be right, and they told me that they raised prices earlier this week. I said, no thanks, and canceled my order. I was slightly worried when the cashier was literally unable to suggest any good dishes from Chopsticks. We got carry out and I'm sure it's decent American Chinese food. The general tsao's chicken was actually pretty good, everything else was meh. I went to Huie's Chopsticks in and had a hamburger and french fries which was really good for a Chinese restaurant!! The fries were perfect! I cannot wait to go back and try the traditional food! This is hands down big city America Chinese food. Shrimp fried rice had more shrimp than most places I ate at. Egg Foo Yung was THICK and filling. Not sure at what point the cooks here lost all hope but if defeat was a flavor than the Chopsticks Inn uses it liberally in every dish. To be clear my hopes were never high as any sort of ethnic food here is dicey. With that low bar established...this place gets a solid, richly deserved 2 star review. One of the stars is for service cause someone else took the order and didn't complain about who answered and the order seemed right.. The question you need to ask yourself is how desperate are you? The fried rice was good at first but then the old oil taste started to be more pronounced as it cooled. I had the Szechwan Chicken with the rice. It was not spicy nor was it tasty. Ordered two combination dinners. Mongolian beef and young chow fried rice. These dishes were really great! Unfortunately they did forget the no onion part of this order. But it was so good the person ate it anyway with the onion in it. Kung pao chicken and s/s chicken in the other order. Kung pao was really tasty. Really nice garlicy gravy over the kung pao. Have been here 4 times since discovering while visiting a relative at a nearby hospital . Was visiting Duluth and went there again today.Nearly passed up originally up as the exterior is laughingly dingy (and the interior is old. Star lost on ambience) ) but was shocked at how good the food was. VERY good egg rolls and hot and sour soup. Don't know if it's still the case but one of the (ancient) ,original, cooks from the Chinese Lantern was still working in the kitchen. This is standard but superior American Chinese food..................... They do serve a little bowl of chow-mein noodles with the hot & sour which is odd. Odder still is the comment about "instead of crackers".... This isn't clam chowder and have never seen ANYTHING served with H&S anywhere else. .In any case you don't have to add them, after all. ....Not sure where all the haters are coming from and maybe some did hit a bad day but for what it is (and price) think Chopsticks Inn is being grossly under-rated . Nice waitress who's been there forever as well. PS-Just my Dad a, myself and two parties that were clearly Chines eating there today and a steady stream of people getting take-out. I ordered delivery at 8:00p, and the lady on the phone said it would be 45 minutes. Called at 9:30p, and since they were closed they didn't answer. We didn't receive our food, although my card was charged. My boyfriend even drove down there to figure things out, but they wouldn't answer the door.
