Twilight zone time!!!!! We drive up to what we think is the diner and the big sign in front says "Dorothy and Debs Redneck Diner" and that they have moved to a new address and listed the address. "Y'all come back diner" was written on the glass which was covered with aluminium foil. It looks like a happening place with all the cars parked outside and people are coming and going, but with aluminium covering the glass you can't really tell so we go looking for the other place and it wasn't there! So.....we go back and decide to go ahead and walk in.... Sure enough it's a diner!!! Aesthetics are definitely not a redneck priority. Freezers out in the open and everything in disarray. The menu was not updated (Dorothy and Debs) and listed the hours on front and closed on Sunday, but we were there on Sunday!! But......in spite of all the confusion, it was the best breakfast we've had in a long time. Everything we had was great!! Eggs and bacon cooked to perfection. Sausage gravy and biscuits.. excellent!! We loved Y'all come back diner or Dorothy and debs...whatever your name!!!

The hours have expanded I'm pleased to report and the food is just as good as it ever was. Some employees are not here anymore and they probably retired but the ladies working here work very hard to make sure the customers are always full. The circus posters on the walls, the period dresses the servers wear, and the table cloths and curtains add a note of nostalgia and send you back to a simpler time. Keep up the great work and I will keep coming. I drive 80 miles to get here and have been for 20 years. So I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Well the first round they bring out is a whole chicken (tasted just like Brookeshire's chicken) then they asked exactly how many pieces you want after that. Mind you we had a full table of people so we needed another plate but it felt as if we had a limit. The greens are from a can. The chicken and dumplings are made from leftover chicken the day or so before. Also you have to get your own drinks and clear your own table. It's a neat experience for travelers but as a local it's a one time deal.

A Little Southern Soul Food Stop in Orange, TX!…read more We stopped at Real Southern Cooking while passing through Orange after hearing it was a great spot for good, old-fashioned Southern Soul Food cooking. I had a couple of sides, while my friends each tried different menu items. Everyone agreed the food was tasty, flavorful, and definitely worth the stop! It's always nice to discover a local small business along the way, and I'm so glad we decided to stop in. I especially love supporting small businesses whenever I can. Definitely adding Real Southern Cooking to my list of places to visit again. If you're passing through Orange, on a weekday, it's worth making the stop! We'll definitely be back!

Real Southern Cooking appeared to be the tiny self-proprietor choke-and-puke that I love. Well, I tried it today. The Hunny and I have been married for 21 years, and between all of the choices, this is the one where we went for our anniversary. Real Southern Cooking looks more cafe than restaurant. Not fancy at all, just a few tables in a small area. The entire menu fits on two 8.5x11 pieces of paper on the wall. It appeals to those who say "I just want good food at a low price" - um, like me. It felt down home, too. We were surprised to see a Hispanic mama & her son behind the counter; service with a smile. The black man I expected in the back was seated at a table, finishing his lunch, and he was not only informative about the spice on everything, but friendly after witnessing us praying before eating. Some utility workers came in too, "I wish I could order everything!" It appears to be a place with a daily clientele. We both had chicken: the Hunny, chicken spaghetti, me, fried chicken. She liked hers, but found it a little spicy, like the chef included Rotel Tomatoes in the sauce. I had three small pieces, and it reminded me of extra-crunchy skin at places like Krispy Krunchy Chicken. The meat was tender and not too hot. 2 sides are included, and the amount of red beans & rice I got was larger than a mere side. Real Southern Cooking is indeed one of those places that fits the Southern diner stereotype, including the good food at a low price. Not totally Texas, but totally Southern. If you're traveling on I-10, it is located downtown, a few miles off the freeway. A few more items on the menu would take it up to 5-star territory; as you see, many Yelpers have it there now. Enjoy it now, ya hear?
