I happened to pass by the Santa Clara Target today, which I don't usually go to. While shopping in the electronics department, I had a gentleman on the floor assisting me with my purchase. He was very responsive and had great customer service. I was looking to buy Beats Studio headphones and when I looked on the floor, there was a Target floor tag that listed the item on sale. The tag listed that the item was $249.99, which I was extremely happy to find. Wanting to pick up a set for myself and for my dad, I asked for two. Everything was going great until it came time for checkout. When the gentleman who helped me rung up the two items, they were listed with the original price of $349.95. To my shock, I asked him about the sale tag and he looked and realized the sale price should have been implemented. He called over another gentleman who assessed the situation and came to the same conclusion that the sale price should be used. I asked to speak with the manager as they weren't able to make a decision. Upon arriving, she sounded extremely agitated but asked me what the issue was. I explained to her that I had been waiting about 20 minutes to buy two sets of Beats Studio headphones, but the sale price was not being implemented when scanned into the cash register. She looked at the sale tag and the item and realized that the tag, although listing Beats Studio, was placed in front of the wrong item. The item I had picked up was for Beats Studio3. The tag was placed in front of the Beats Studio3, and listed Beats Studio for $249.99. When I asked her about the pricing, she said she could not fulfill the request for the sale price. I told her that as the customer, when I see a tag with a price, I assume the workers for the store are putting the tags on the right item and that as a manager, they should be doing their due dilligence to check and ensure accuracy on the price of their products. At that time she said she'll be willing to give me the sale price for 1 set. I asked her if I could take a look at the policy or procedure that details how this situation should be handled. Before I could finish, she raised her voice at me and told me I needed to lower my voice. When this happened, the customer behind me chimed in and said "but he's not even being loud." She continued and used inappropriate and unprofessional language saying "dude, [sigh] I'm not going to have this conversation with you," and rolled her eyes. All I had asked for was to see their policy, so after her comment to me, I repeated my question and she avoided answering initially. After repeating my question again, she yelled "NO, DO YOU WANT THE ITEM OR NOT." I told her that I wanted both at the sale price per the floor tag. At that time she threatened me by saying "If you continue, I will call security and have you escorted out of the building." This comment was unnecessary as I had continued to use the same tone of voice as I had with the gentlemen who had helped me prior and all I was asking for was to see the policy so I could get my items and leave. Being yelled at by a department manager made me feel extremely uncomfortable and the two people in line behind me had decided to leave because they saw how the manager was treating me. I asked if I could speak with her suprior, but she quickly exclaimed that her suprior was not there. I asked her what we could do to help remedy the situation while adhearing to the policy and she said "You can do whatever you want." In that moment, I figured it wasn't worth it to continue going back and forth because I had already been dealing with the manager using inappropriate language and attitude. I agreed to take the 1 item at the sale price under the condition that the sale tag get moved to the correct item so someone else does not have to have the same false information given to them and deal with the department manager. I thanked the 3 employees who helped me and as I turned to leave, the manager muttered inaudable words under her breath and the friends I was with told me after that she was not only saying inappropriate things, but also offensive things. All in all, this experience was rather unfortunate as I usually love going to my local Target, however, this is a wake up call to avoid the Santa Clara Target - Electronics Department specifically. I do want to specify that the two gentlemen who helped me were extremely curteous and patient with the situation, it was strictly the manager who I had an issue with and I hope the unprofessional acts she committed does not rub off on the other employees. read more
