I've been to this San Jose Costco location a few times, and my experience has been the same each time. Parking is impossible. The lot like the store is super busy. There are never ending lines of people. The warehouse has a larger variety of items compared to my Sacramento warehouse. A much better floral selection, meat section, and produce can be found here. They even have an abundance of holiday decor. I found the warehouse staff to also be in abundance throughout the warehouse, which is not the norm in most other warehouses. The selection was typical for Costco and generally good. The checkout line and receipt check were a bit slow. They seemed a little too careful, although maybe we just caught them on a bad day. The parking lot is one of the worst I've seen in the Bay Area. The only way in and out is through a roundabout, and both the warehouse and gas station require going through it. It's a fairly small roundabout, and a lot of people don't seem familiar with how to use it. I thought the Sunnyvale Costco parking lot was rough until today. read more

Costco is, well, Costco! It's that place where you can find great deals and also bulk items. However, the many Costco Wholesale locations in the Bay Area have made me realize that not all Costco locations are equal. I live in Palo Alto; and, the Mountain View warehouse is one of the easiest local Costco warehouses to quickly get in and out of. However, the Costco in Santa Clara has items that are unavailable in the Mountain View warehouse. Consequently, I periodically will make the drive to this warehouse in Santa Clara (near the airport but opposite SJC terminals). The Good: This Costco location has the cheapest gasoline in the entire Bay Area. Last night, I purchased gas in Palo Alto at $6.19/gallon. Yet, it's actually just $5.25/gallon today at this Costco location! In addition, this Costco has plenty of items that just aren't found in Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Redwood City, Foster City or other Bay Area locations. The Bad: Customer service at this location isn't as exemplary as you find at some other Costco locations. In turn, the members/customers aren't as "empathetic" with one another as you normally find at many Costco locations. I personally think that it's because the customer service (or the inability to see many warehouse workers on the flood) allows people to be rude or problematic. The Ugly: The parking at this location is oddly designed. However, the presence of a roundabout inside the driveway is just....weird. Bay Area drivers seem to suffer from an inability to figure it out. It doesn't help that the roundabout is central to everyone coming in and out of the parking lot and/or going to the gas station. Verdict: Overall, this is a good Costco with wide selection of products; but, it has a weird driveway/parking experience and employees that probably need a bit more training and visibility. read more

Love this Costco so much. It is way less crowded than some other locations I've been to. Especially if you come at the right times. They always have a fun selection of products and great deals. Pizza is always on point and a whole pizza for $10, you can't beat that. These Costco workers are pretty chill and not rude. I don't love the parking lot situation, only 2 ways in. I was very disappointed with my experience at the Costco Food Court. I waited approximately 20 minutes for a pepperoni pizza and a churro, only to be told by a staff member that I would either have to continue waiting, request a refund, or settle for a cheese pizza instead. I had already paid for a pepperoni pizza, so I did not feel it was appropriate to be told to accept something I did not order. What made the situation worse was the dismissive attitude I received when I was simply asking about an order I had already been waiting a significant amount of time for. What concerned me even more was witnessing the same staff member pull another employee aside and speak to her in a way that left the employee visibly upset and crying. Although it seemed like she was attempting to have the conversation discreetly, it was still noticeable to customers nearby. It was extremely uncomfortable to witness an employee being brought to tears, especially when the food court was already busy and the employees appeared to be under a lot of pressure. I completely understand that the Costco Food Court can become extremely busy and that delays are sometimes unavoidable. However, there is a professional and respectful way to handle those situations. Customers should not be made to feel like an inconvenience for asking about an order they paid for, and employees should not be reprimanded in a manner that causes them visible distress in front of customers. I sincerely hope Costco management looks into this situation and provides better leadership and support for the employees working in the food court. A stressful and busy environment makes respectful and professional management even more important. read more

This review is strictly for the optical department. I was unaware that the employees don't help the customer with anything. After looking for a while or trying to (too many people shoved in the same area to see much of anything. I found a pair of frames that I liked. I walked up to the desk and let the gentleman know that I was ready and to please put me in the invisible line. I couldn't tell who worked there and who was visiting the people who worked there??! There was one gentleman who told me go pick out what you like and come back here so that's what I did. Unfortunately, he wasn't there, but there was a gentleman who said "give me your prescription, What do you want? You want progressive lens, thin, then he looked at me and said those are too big for you. Go find something smaller and I said would you mind pointing me in the direction where this shape might be? I guess three questions was too many so he then pawned me off to Amara who did explain a little bit, but she was irritated with me as well because I didn't understand the protocol. She was saying you need a 52 what the heck is a 52? I am used to having the optical tech know what they're talking about and graciously help the customer. That IS their job! Costco is such a zoo there was no organization or any rhyme or reason as to how to go about getting what I needed, so I left. I'm very disappointed! Many of my friends and coworkers have purchased glasses at Costco and were happy. I've heard good things. I will try my luck at another Costco. Maybe go earlier when they open before the employees have a chance to get impatient and stressed out. Because of the noise level, the employees have to shout at you, which adds to the unpleasant situation! I was on my own. Douglas was so so kind to come to my aid with a box to hold my things. He even put them on another belt (a closed register) for me until I got to the front of my line! Food Court. $7.99, chef's salad. Signage says Rotisserie Chicken chef's salad. The chicken is not Costco rotisserie chicken, but rather some sort of mystery processed chicken roll. The five mini tomato's were beautiful on outside, but inside of tomatoes was pure mush. I'm returning it tomorrow it was awful. individual packets of dressing, shredded cheeze, chopped bacon and dressing along with croutons still in sealed packs. I like this Costco, however the roundabout is in the worst place possible. Everyone coming in from Coleman thinks the only way they can go is "right". This backs up traffic as there are pedestrians crossing and cars trying to merge from parking. Not to mention people don't understand "yield" and STOP to let everyone else through. There are never enough people working in the food court and the foil is left on the counter for you to wrap your own food. This is so unsanitary and I'm not sure how they even get away with this. I have since been to Almaden and Sunnyvale and neither of these stores leave the wrap out. I recently purchased a Strawberry Shortcake Sunday (yum) and it had vanilla ice cream. Not much problems if you are out before 3pm, but if you're remotely thinking of being theirs past 3pm on a weekday, you better be patient enough to leave very slowly. The selection of products is the same as any Costco, and as with any Costco, you should only go if you REALLY must. Value lost in time wasted and having to deal with crappy people outside in the lot. Less "crazy," although it looked like they changed the entrance with a roundabout and caused a little bottleneck/confusion during the time we were here. Just glad I am a good driver, and caught on easily. This one is slightly smaller than the one off of Lawrence, but it was still consistent enough for all my needs. Atmosphere - Consistent. Departments - Food court, gas station, tire service, pharmacy, optical, hearing aids, etc. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 7pm or 8:30pm. Service - Self service, but they do check your receipt here right after you ring yourself out. Price - Overspent as usual... Glad they have a good return policy. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location since 1985. Congrats on all your success since 1976, since Price Club. One of the worst store management of all Costco's in the area. Bought a special item that required a staff member to go into their vault to get me the item. A few weeks later when I came by to do shopping again, they blocked my account saying that they gave me the wrong item but similar item. That other item was already gifted to a friend and so they gave me the ultimatum of canceling my account and removing me while it is their fault that they gave me the wrong item in their storage vault. Poor customer service and managers act like they walk on clouds without ever apologizing. read more

I would steer clear of Costco for tires. Workmanship, customer service and value are all 0 out of 10 I got new tires from Costco. I arrived they could not find the tires I ordered. The tire center worker told me it would take 90 mins, it took 2hrs 15mins. I made the appointment a week in advance before a sale. The worker told me I could get the discount when I had my appointment. When I asked about getting credit they told me no one was there would give me the discount and I would have to come back. After finally getting my car back the wheels were extremely scuffed, dirty and the tire was cover is glue. All signs of poor workmanship. I have gotten at least 5 sets of tires from Costco in the past but this will be the last time I get them from Costco. Other tire shops offer similar discounts as Costco. read more

Short Story: A good Costco next to the SJC airport. Long Story: I have been here a few times for the years and this Costco has all the essentials. It is not as large as Fremont nor does it carry all the high end items in Mountain View. But it will have all your staples. The unique thing about this Costco is that it shares a parking space with a nearby McDonalds. This creates lots of traffic and frequently there are cars trying to get in/out. Be sure to be patient! There was plenty of traffic driving here as expected, a line to turn on Brokaw then Wondo Way (a plaza with McD's). But at least it was moving when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. Costco does have a few unique things of decent quality, but not a lot of variety for specific items (sometimes just the Costco brand, or Kirkland). They seemed to group some random stuff together, ie. lego flower bouquet, zebra writing pen set, omni telescope, acoustic guitar, and pokemon tins and card sets, all in a row on one aisle. My favorite part of the store is the fruit section, cuz this I can actually finish, even in bulk. Unfortunately, they don't do fresh produce in small enough sizes to fit my needs. A few items I got this past weekend were halos (cuties), milk chocolate almonds (I prefer dark chocolate, but this is all they offer), and a new windpro umbrella (I know it's hardly necessary in Cali, but I lost mine and don't have much else to use my gift card on, so why not). Using a gift card without a Costco membership wasn't too complicated, entry was instant with a wave of the card, and I was able to pay at the warehouse self checkout line. However, the worker had to punch in a bunch of codes to allow me to shop with my gift card (due to no Costco membership). And only a specific worker could approve this, not just any employee. I was able to purchase a hot dog from the checkout line too, but again, the worker had to punch in a code, scan his badge, etc. I'm not sure how difficult it would be trying to use my gift card to make a purchase at the actual food court since these specific employees who can approve it are not readily available and are hard to identify, but I'm gonna try ordering from those self-order kiosks next time. Though Costco is the only place I know that has a ridiculous line to exit which they are very strict about, luckily it went quickly at the Santa Clara location. Still, my recent experience reminded me of why I don't shop at Costco (crowds of senseless people, giant shopping carts taking up so much space and making me feel claustrophobic, the parking and traffic scene, etc.). Even though it wasn't horrible this past weekend, shopping in bulk doesn't really benefit me, so it's not worth it. I've come to this location for years and had no issues until today when they violated ADA rights. An employee came up to my partner to ask about her service dog with many invasive questions. When explaining to her what questions she is allowed to as per ADA guidelines, she stated she didn't want to argue and got her manager. The manager diffused the situation, but she is still employed there with no disciplinary action. This is really disappointing and we will not be going back until the situation is rectified. read more

I never imagined that trying to buy a car battery at Costco would end with me crying in the parking lot. 4 weeks ago my husband's car broke down at work. He couldn't start it and asked if I could go to the home nearest Costco to get a battery for him so he could drive home. Since we usually buy tires and car related products from Costco, it seemed like a natural choice.And He had a spare phone so he asked to logged into his Costco account, I took it and headed to the store. At the entrance I calmly explained to the greeter that I was using my husband's account, and that his car not working so I need help him . I wasn't sure if Costco allowed this kind of purchase under hunsband 's membership, so I wanted to ask first. The greeter was kind and led me to the membership counter to get clarification. Then something happened that still feels deeply wrong. I was mid sentence explaining the situation when the man at the counter, without asking or saying anything, took the phone out of my hands and immediately logged my husband's account out. He simply said, "You're not authorized to use this account. Sorry" I wasn't there to hack anything. I wasn't trying to cheat the system. I clearly stated: If this isn't allowed, I'll leave and go buy a battery elsewhere. But instead of giving me an answer, he treated me like I was doing something wrong like I was untrustworthy. And he acted like he had the right to take my phone and log me out. I couldn't stop thinking: if I were a 6-foot-tall white man, would he have done the same? Or was it because I was an Asian woman, alone, looking like someone easy to dismiss? I didn't argue. I just left, sat in my car, and cried. Later, I called Costco and was given the phone number for the store manager. I explained the situation. The manager said they would "look into it. they also not agree what the staff done. " It's been a month. No follow up. No apology. Nothing.I will never return to that store. It's not about being denied a purchase , it's about how deeply humiliating it was to be treated like I wasn't even worthy of basic respect. With just coming back from travel and wife unfortunately sick and having to stay in bed, made a Costco run to restock and prepare a meals for my wife. When arriving I attempted to use our Costco card only to be rudely rejected by the host and manager. Even though the membership card is tied to my credit card, because my name was not on the membership (only my wife) I was turned away. I explained the situation even woke my wife up from needed rest to FaceTime to even show that this was something that could not have been prevented. I understand they were doing what they felt was right but no option was given for the extenuating circumstance. There could've been options to provide a temp memebership, but to repeatedly just saying my wife needs to show up when I clearly explained how she couldn't physically do that is just beyond frustrating to the point where it gives such a sour taste that I'll be cancelling membership. Very pleasant staff, reasonably well-paid & treated by management, unlike places with initials W and SC. I have no problem asking staff for assistance about items not seen, and where to go. Many shoppers at Costcos need to pay more attention to where they're moving or stopped, but I never get angry about it, but try to look before I move, and park my cart at the edge of the aisle. I couldn't believe my eyes when the price per pound of swordfish was less than the ahi! I hadn't had swordfish in decades because of the cost. Sometimes the ahi has too much connective tissue, and it's passed by. I found their rotisserie chicken to be bland--but the sandwiches at the food court are pretty good. I enjoy the 'roadshows' of individual producers when they're present. I enjoy the variety of "ethnic food" found here. The large muffins you had to buy by the dozen have been discontinued, but there's a deadly addictive new cookie (haven't got the box up here) with cinnamon chips with an odd name, smelling like a snickerdoodle, but texture of a mini scone. You'll find them on one of the bakery tables. I think we're on our third or fourth container. I encounter many nice and interesting people there, often falling into random brief conversations. Now if only a bus would go by there! I think it would take me three buses, or two with more walking from and to the one on Automation Pkwy! There is a reasonably good spot for dropping me off/picking me up to the left of the main entrance, nowhere near as messy as the area to the right, where most of the traffic and pedestrians accumulate. read more

Im sure a lot of it had to do with it being people's first time on earth and not knowing the flow of traffic (no only in the car but on foot). They should dedicate some of the employees who are wandering around in the parking lot on their phones to direct traffic, it was a free-for-all. Wow! I'm not sure what's going on at this location, but this was not a good day. The employees all seem very disgruntled. The first thing I heard was an employee discussing with another employee how her supervisor spoke to her when reminding her about being on time. I walked a couple more aisles, and the next interaction was an employee yelling at the Sample lady that she was not making the samples correctly. He was relentless on the poor woman making the food. The lines were super long like when people were stocking up before Covid. They were wrapping around into other aisles and when I finally got up to the cash register, one of the ladies said to the cashier are you all on your own and he said "Yep as per usual." It really felt like these employees were not very happy to be at work today or being supported by the supervisors. The people working at other Costco's locally seem a lot happier. Even the sweet lady that o love to interact with at the exit seemed a little less cheery today. I thought I was done until I got out into the parking lot and the cart guy was dropping F bombs left and right while having a conversation with the other cart guy. Sad to say, I won't be coming back to this Costco again. 1) The employees do not display the usual Costco helpfulness. At all. I spent $300 today (my usual) and the checker acted all weird and put out when I told him I did not want one item as I had not seen the price. 2) The lady doing the bagging grabbed my big corned beef without telling me anything, gave it to another guy and told him to grab another one due to it not having a price sticker. The guy took forever to get back, I was already done checking out and paying and then he brought me a tiny one. I said that's not mine! Where is mine? Answer...sorry there wasn't a sticker. What?! Totally unacceptable. Are you kidding me? 3) Got 2 cantaloupes and cut into one tonight and it's gross inside, super over ripe and inedible. I WILL be asking for my money back. Last time I was at Costco they had overripe persimmons...still the same big price tho....this is shameful!! 4) In the milk section while looking for eggnog they had big gallon eggnogs that were expiring TODAY. Seriously? I did not realize Costco was now Grocery Outlet but with giant inflated prices. 5) I recently got sliced cheese that lasted only a short time before I noticed mold on it! I've literally never had cheese from Costco mold on me...this was a first, and shows me they are stocking old product that's ready to go bad. Buyer beware! As a long time Costco customer (been shopping at different locations for over 30 years!) I am very disappointed at this particular location. I will not come back to this store again, even if it's the closest to me. I will drive further to get better customer service and produce and products that are not expired!! Soon there won't be a choice, the only way to go to this Costco will be on foot, and not being able to carry anything back home lol. It was like trying to enter The Shoreline at 1pm on a Thursday. Costco Warehouses this location is off Coleman Ave. I often go to Costco where areas I am in or near. Food court, and other needs of in warehouse shopping, and Costco ages station at times for my vehicle. Since 2018 I have been driving 2 different Honda Oddysey Vans Silver, and Gold which both have utilized this Costco off coleman for gasoline fueling. Location has a wide lot, and open space parking areas. I am comfortable shopping here in store warehouses for every day needs essentials. I do have my own Costco membership card which all purchases of Costco either in warehouses or online purchases are just intended for myself and household only. Not intended for any other persons. Membership department sometimes are interacted with if needing either returning items which i do primarily use English in communications. So as friends, family and Co-Workers (Yeah Jodi, Chris and Jenn I am talking about you!) ) will attest we have a obsession with Costco. So much so we have a set of Costco Rules we live by (after the review). This was a rarity, a location in our area we had been too once, but never bothered to review. It is set up much the way almost every one is setup, electronics by the entrance, the center area is filled with seasonal items, furniture, and clothes, and the rest of the U shape is filled with household items, food, baked goods, then medicines etc. Why 3 stars? The same reason we avoid this one even if we are in the area. It is a nightmare to get in and out of if its busy. They added a turning circle which would be great if people knew how to drive. The Rules 1) NEVER EVER go in hungry. That 25 gallons of dill pickle chips is much easier to resist on a full stomach.... true story there. 2) Avoid the free samples. People seem to lose their minds with this stuff. They abandon carts with crying babies, block isles, etc all to get that tiny portion of hummus. I have been shoved aside by someone desperate to get a free piece of cheese. Honestly I have seen more dignity from actual starving people in a disaster zone but I digress. 3) Avoid the weekends like the plague. 4) See #1 5) Go often. Costco uses alot of psychology and the fear of missing out is one of them. Odd items you must have pop up then go never to return. I CAN'T MISS OUT AGGGGGGG 6) Know your codes: At Costco any price ending in 0.97 means it has been marked down.
