But if you are being treated for pre-diabetes or diabetes, make sure you tell Dr. Brown from the start because the eye exam is slightly different; it's your eyes so let her know. They have some new technology to look inside the eye and map it or look for abnormalities. It will add to your bill (Dr. Brown does not take insurance) but as I get one pair of eyes, I believe it's worth a few extra dollars.

THAT is what I received here at Gulf Coast Eye Center. We just moved, and second to my dermatologist for skin cancer screening and MOH surgeries, my eye care is of utmost importance. My family and I have had previous issues as well need corrective lenses and contacts. I need screenings for macular degeneration and central serious retinopathy since the 1990s. My wife through HealthGrades whittled down a long list and I scanned Yelp and Google and these folks bubbled to the top of the stack ranked list. Calling the office my wife and EASILY plowed through the insurance and setting up the first visit hassles with Kac who is awesome. Pam was terrific with the exams and laser light show and vision checks. Dr. Steven Bovio earned and proved why his "grades" are so high on HealthGrades and we went off into my history and details and even had discussions about nutrition and eye health and preventative tactics. FANTASTIC doctor and my previous guy in New York for the last 16 years had set a VERY high bar. Out in the eye center Irka dealt with my frugal (a.k.a. cheap Irish bastard) personality and we found some durable, light, and great fitting (for my full figured melon head) eyeglasses AND some protective sunglasses. A HOME RUN!!!!!!!!!!! I almost can't wait for the 1.5 to 2 weeks to get my new specs.....I am long overdue and see with my change in prescription why so many issues!! However, there is a jewel in the crown and that is at 2601 S. tamiami Trail. Her name Jean Austin and she helped me with getting a new pair of glasses. It was easy to make the decision to have her perform my surgery. She explains the different types of lenses in detail, and helps you make the right decision. The minute you meet Dr. Davis, you know you've chosen a brilliant, confident, experienced physician. The pre-op and post-op vists are thorough, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Although Medicare and insurance companies pay for most - if not all costs - make sure you meet with the billing dept. to fully understand the breakdown of expenses. The staff at the front was warm and welcoming, the tech that ran me through the pre-testing was friendly and explained procedures. And Dr. Ashley was wonderful. Super friendly, and explained everything she was doing, as well as the results. This is the one thing that I really valued from my former eye doctor, and am so pleased to have found a new doctor that does this. After dilating my eyes and taking images, Dr. Ashley showed me the images and explained everything she was seeing - this is awesome - I really appreciate that level of involvement. Anyway, I'm happy I found them and will recommend to my friends.

Check and double check everything they try to sell you! Chances are you don't need half and you can probably get a better deal even without insurance. Doc was good, only reason it's not a 1 star. I will do my best to escape VSP insurance so I don't have to deal with Visionworks in the future.

My examination was thorough and once I received my new glasses, the prescription Dr. Shotwell determined for me was right on. Her husband, and optician, Michael, was very helpful and took a lot of time with me in deciding the correct frame for my face and how my lenses should perform for my particular prescription. I have gone to other sources in the past to "save money" on frames and lenses, but what it really comes down to is you get what you pay for in the end. I am very happy with the glasses made for me and with Michael's suggestions, I can honestly say these are the best and most comfortable glasses I have had in a very long time! You will not find a friendlier or better place for your eye care. I highly recommend Dr. Shotwell, I have become a patient for life.

She took a lot of time to examine me and provide clear explanations for her diagnoses. She is quite personable and compassionate. Her husband, Michael, is the on-site optician. He went out of his way to explain how my new lenses would allow me to see more clearly. He was precise in his determinations and measurements to make sure that my new glasses would be appropriate for my facial structure. He also has a good eye when it comes to color of the frames. Holly, Beth and Lindsay were so kind and helpful when I called to make an appointment. I was concerned about a very recent decrease in vision and they were able to give me an appointment the same day! In short, personalized and friendly care, combined with a compassionate and very knowledgeable doctor makes for one amazing optical practice!
