After I wrote the review below a week ago, Dr Doyle contacted me immediately. she explained that the policy was not properly communicated to me and that she was conducting training with her staff right away to dispel false ideas. She is generously offering a significant discount on her premium products to me. More than the offer, I appreciate her candor and straightforwardness in handling the situation head on. I am going to continue to use the Spectacle Gallery as I believe the initial problem was as much my fault as hers. The fact that she is willing to correct it means a lot to me. Most would have brushed it off. 1/7/2020 I went in for an exam - the records transfer was easy and they were helpful. The exam seemed to go fine. There was a little pressure to buy "Shamir" progressive lenses ($700 ea.), but not uncomfortable. I am slightly nearsighted and have been for 15 years. Right eye is worse. The new scrip was for a FAR sighted left eye. I thought - "wow - that's change, must be age" A few months later, I tried to get to the bottom of why I wasn't seeing well with my new prescription. I started closing one eye while I drove and did sports. Left eye was blurry. I called and spoke to them and asked for them to change the scrip as the people who made the lenses would redo at no charge. Answer was "we have to do a new exam" ($170, no VSP) . I said "I just need you to read my old lens - they worked great for that eye". "Sorry best we can do is $70" Some would think that's fair. .I spent 35 years in retail. That's a good way to lose a customer. Why not accomodate? Possibly sell a pair of Shamir lenses one day. - a $700 sale. Draw your own conclusion. read more

I love the Spectacle Gallery. I will only have Dr. Doyle do my eye exams. This is the only spectacle store from which I would purchase; everywhere else in this region only sells rebranded Luxotica mass-produced frames. The Spectacle Gallery only sells handmade frames. My polarized sunglasses are beautiful and my Moscot progressive, photosensitive daily glasses are equally exquisite. Both Dr. Doyle and Lisa are a joy! So warm and friendly that sometimes I just pop in to say hello. I give them five stars because there is no higher rating. You get what you pay for, at least if you know where to shop! read more

I had an eyeglass repair emergency today and called just as the shop was closing. My husband and I were warmly welcomed into the shop by the two young women behind the counter. One of them (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) took my glasses to the back of the shop and spent quite a while fixing them, as the repair was tricky. Meanwhile we chatted cordially with Dr. Doyle and were impressed by her and by the selection of frames on display. When the repairer came back out with my glasses, she cleaned and polished them before handing them back, gave us both polishing cloths, and didn't charge us anything for the repair! I wish this shop were in Massachusetts, where I live. I would definitely get my glasses from them. read more

I recently visited Spectacle Gallery while I was in Sarasota for work. I made the grave mistake of flying to Florida and forgetting my sunglasses at home. Fortunately, my hotel was just down the street from Spectacle Gallery. I was greeted by Dr. Doyle who was very friendly and helpful. She showed me their extensive and diverse selection of top-quality sunglasses. (You wouldn't be able to leave there without finding a pair that suited just about any occasion). While I had gone in just for sunglasses I found myself equally impressed by their selection of eye glasses. I decided it was time for new frames as well, and Dr. Doyle was awesome in helping me find the right pair. She was extremely consultative, and very knowledgeable of every frame type and designer they carried. Dr. Doyle fit me in that same day for an eye exam to ensure I had the right lens prescription. She even called a store where I lived to make sure they could take care of ordering the correct lenses, so I could do everything else locally.
