Very bad experience at Target Optical Port Orange. The optometrist there, Dr. Jordan, has her boyfriend performing a test that is not covered by insurance, you don't know this until you arrive for the appointment. It's called a "retinal scan" and it is not necessary for corrective lenses in healthy eyes. However, no $50 fee for his job, no exam performed for corrective lenses. No other places in Port Orange require this. When I complained he told me that "If you don't like it go somewhere else", and that his "fiance has student loans"...LOL. I call it "retinal scam". Avoid this place like the plague. Other reviews say the same, I wish I had read them before. I'm sorry to have to write this, but you brought this on yourself. Should Dr. Jordan have this person working under her? Rude a best, at worst, maybe unethical. Good luck where ever you two land. read more

Doctor,great answered all questions very professional. Target group to so much. Pre approval for insurance only to find out doctor in network Target is not. Ended up very pricey, did tell me they would take both of my coverage charge another eye exam and apply to one pair of glasses. And save me 90 dollars. Do not up charge people! We wanted a simple eye exam that our insurance paid for and was told we would have to pay for a retinal exam or could not get the exam! They also charged a 10.00 copay which we do not have under our plan! This needs to be addressed by corporate. Gretchen is a rock star there. She helps you without making you feel pressured. She found me the best deal so that I could get contacts and glasses. Dr Jordan is very sweet and thorough. The whole staff in general is really easy going. If they were annoyed because a busy saturday, you would never know. I highly recommend going here instead of the bigger optical places.I went last year and walked out if my appt with America's Best. I'm happy I went back to Target. I will be back for many years. I made an app for my 16 year old to have an eye exam. She has been seen here for glasses before. They did not tell me when making the appointment that they require an elective service of Retinal imaging that is $49.99 out of pocket. Insurance does not cover. You may get a slight discount based on insurance but you have to pay out of pocket for this. I tried to opt out of this service since she is 16, no health issues and has been seen by Target before. They refused to see her unless I agreed to and lid for the retinal imaging. We left and went down the road about a mile to Total Vision. The retinal imaging is not mandated at Total Vision. I will not be back to Target Optical. read more

Watch out for this provider. We went in with vision insurance that has a $10 ram copay. Ended up paying over $100 for exam up charges. We feel really deceived. Next time we go back to Total Vision where they care about their patients. read more

Optometrist was awesome. Optician and other staff were horrible. Lied to us about our insurance benefits and insisted we had no lens coverage even though our policy clearly stated full coverage for single vision, bifocal or progressive lenses. When we first arrived they even told us our insurance was not accepted them and that it was our problem if they could not find our policy in their system. Attitudes were horrible so we left rather than get ripped off due to their incompetence. The real issue was that they were trying to push us into buying high end polycarbonate lenses. We went to Blahnik Vision on S. Ridgewood, were greeted by a kind, honest optician who sold us 2 pairs of glasses with frame and lenses mostly covered by insurance and best of all with no lies or bad attitudes! read more

I was given a new RX by an independent optometrist in October in DB. I quickly needed the new RX , just lenses, in my current frame since I was going to NYC for 3 weeks. J C Penney closed the optical on Staten Island & other malls in NYC area &in Woodbridge, NJ . I went Dunlawton Target gave them my new RX frames and they were mailed to Linden NJ Target optical where I picked them up. The quality of the lenses are poor and my depth perception is totally off I right lens . I have never had an issue with lenses from J C. I'm so disappointed in the doctor at Target in Port Orange. My glasses are terrible. The right eye is all wrong. When I called to try to get it rectify, I was told that Dr Newstrom was no longer there. I could come in for a reevaluation but it would cost me $50. The contact lenses I got are all wrong also. I'm wearing the left eye lenses in both eyes and I see great like that. I had another exam just 6 months ago but wanted a new evaluation for contacts. I've carried Humana optical insurance for sometime but haven't used it. So I thought this was the opportunity. Boy was I wrong! Should not have been talked into a trifocal. Actually if these had been right I would have loved them. If I just look through my left eye there great, but the right is way off. You would think Target would have stood behind them and corrected them even though the mistake was "the independent Doctor". I'll just scratch it off as a good learning experience and remember that if it doesn't feel right or look right( the RX was way off) ''speak up".. read more

All of the staff has been, and was wonderful during this COVID experience except Gretchen, the fitting tech. My girlfriend, son and myself all had appointments there in which 3 separate occasions I had been there in the past month. She was horrid to be around in every experience and was obnoxiously rude. Dr Mendez was incredible. I don't want to deter anyone from Dr Mendez at all, however the one particular employee was absolutely terrible. I'll not be returning for anything at all as long as she's there, Walmart has my business again until otherwise noted. read more

Although I have yet to purchase new glasses - Target Optical has been added to the top of my list. Gloria was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the eyeglasses that they offer. They even have an independent optometrist which can provide eye exams for around $60 (which seems to be the going rate for exams). I was pleasantly surprised with the large selection available of frames ranging in different prices, from around $100 and up depending on the brand. The staff and the optical area were above and beyond the expectations. But after sitting with they eye DR she was by far one of the worst I have ever encountered. I mean I was in the Army for 20 years and they were 100 times better. The Dr. was in a rush and not very helpful when it came time to find out what would work best for me or offer any suggestions. I mean no opinion of if I should get glasses, contacts, mono vision contacts, etc. Just in and out and what do you want. All this rushing around and no bed side manner as I was the only appointment she had the entire time i was in the office. She was busy checking her phone during the exam and then questioned me about my phone when it was vibrating from a call. only reason its not a 1 on rating is because the office ladies were the best experience I had with customer service in a while. read more

I have been a very long time client of this location. Although, they seem to have a high turn over for doctors (they are contracted not employees), the main staff is the best! The best staff member (I will leave name off for her own privacy) cashier #955808, goes above & beyond to greet each passerby and not stifle you if you are simply browsing. She called me to tell me that there was a sale on frames I really really wanted. Well it worked & I went in & got my 1st pair of prescription sunglasses at 42 yrs old all because of her efforts! Glasses pick up in October, paid $250.00+. The lenses scratched within 1 month. Took back to Target and was told they just needed cleaning. Returned again in January and was told the scratches were from using hairspray or sunblock, ( I don't use either), "Gina" called 4 weeks ago and stated she would order new lenses, told yesterday they still have not arrived. Took glasses to Walmart and Licensed Optician told me the "no glare film" was deteriorated due to poor quality. I have a pair of eyeglasses bought in 2015 from Walmart and no scratches and no glare film is fine, unfortunately. the RX is not strong enough now. DO NOT use Target for eyeglasses. read more

My daughter and I easily scheduled appointments with Dr. Menza. She was kind, caring, and professional- a rare combination. And the staff at Target optical helped my daughter pick out her first pair of glasses. I had to return, because my prescription fluctuates due to an eye condition I have, not any fault of Dr. Menza'a. She saw me again, and they are redoing my prescription. I visited Target optical in port orange, and selected some glasses to buy. After waiting about 10 minutes for the only attendant, I learned that although they accept my insurance, the web connection was down so I couldn't complete the purchase. I had to come back another day. It happens. I was Ok with that. I subsequently visited the Target in Daytona (closer to my work), but they don't have an optical center. I then returned two days later to the Port Orange Target, but there still was only one associate and the customers were lined up about 3 deep. One customer just wanted to pick up her glasses ordered previously, but was told it would be quite a while. So, for the third time, I put away my wallet and left Target without a purchase. It appeared to be at least an hour before I could order my selection. They are busy and need more help! read more

Just don't waste your time. Optometrist was very good. Optician was the worst ever, supposedly the manager of the optical dept., and the glasses I paid almost $600, I called her, the lenses were not correct and she had an immediate attitude blaming it on whoever the Optician had been. When you call that your lenses are not correct, replacing a same type of lens older pair, the first response should not be "well where did you have your eye exam done?" This is how it started to go downhill. I had it done there. She was to call me back the computer was down, she said. A day and half later, no return call. I called again, she said the computer was still down. I disputed on my Target card the charges. I demanded a refund in full. I had lost all confidence in the Optician. The independent optometrist that works from this location, did double check her Rx for me, I called her and spoke to her about what happened, she was very accommodating, and confirmed it was not the Rx. If you don't smoke and don't want your Optician to be strongly stinking reeking of cigarette smoke while helping you pick frames and make your order incorrectly, be forewarned, this is another part of the lack of acceptable service they provide. Just don't. I did get a full refund for the glasses, but wasted a lot of time. read more
