The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I feel confident I'm getting the best care for my eyes! I see Dr. VanMeter for my regular eye exams. She takes the time to listen to me and makes sure I'm happy with my prescription. She always manages to dig up some samples for me, despite my not-too-common prescription. The exam rooms are spotless. It's a nice, quiet setting that's perfect for folks who experience appointment anxiety. This past year was my first time ordering glasses from the store, and I'd definitely order again. The staff were extremely helpful with my indecisiveness about the frames. They had great suggestions, and I ended up with a pair I love. I initially had some issues with the fit, and they encouraged me to return as many times as necessary to ensure I was comfortable with them. Their selection of frames are on the expensive side, but they seem to be worth the price. Things to note: There's a parking garage in the same building. You can access it through the alley to the left of the clinic. They have convenient online scheduling. They also offer an online contact ordering system, but it's a little confusing to use. I typically ask staff to order my contacts for me after my appointments.

As a Downtown (pseudo)professional, I have the joy of finding convenient places for errands and…read moresuch. With a pair of broken glasses, I stopped into Solomon Optical and had them repaired in no time. The staff is incredibly quirky (in a Seinfeld kind of way), endearing, and helpful. They, usually a staff of three, run a somewhat fly by the seat of your pants ship as they dodge piles of papers, glasses orders, various items from the 90s, and promotional materials. How endearing, I thought. So, I made an appointment with their optometrist who's in once a week since I was due for a check up. With the appointment I made, they didn't charge me for fixing my glasses. On a side note: if you buy glasses from them, adjustments are always free of charge. When I arrived for my appointment the following week, I let them know that I was only interested in getting contacts but they sat me down anyway and had me try on about 20 different glasses. I'm glad they did this for the woman who was helping me knew exactly what she liked and didn't like for my face and coloring - so helpful! They really do offer great service that is honest and upfront. The reason I'm giving them three stars is mostly attributed to the chaotic state of things. The optometrist was a very nice woman and completely capable. The exam room, however, was cramped, inefficient, with outdated/uncleaned equipment, and no sink to wash my hands in before sticking my fingers in my eyes. I just don't know if I can get over the actual condition of the Solomon Optical space.

First impression upon walking in, was, WOW, the clinic is so beautiful, clean, organized and very spacious. The front desk welcomed me graciously as well. Dr. Snyder is great in explaining things and in making me comfortable (I don't like things close to my face). He figured out what was wrong so off to choosing a frame I go. Tammy, helped me with picking the frame and she has a very keen eye on what works for my face and my nose bridge (or the lack of it). ;) She didn't try to sell me designer frames even though what I liked turned out to be one. :) Very highly recommended. PROS: Convenient parking, friendly staff, clean and beautiful clinic, amazing doctor. CONS: none

A general, routine eye exam should not take up two hours of a patient's time…read more A patient also ought not be kept waiting alone in an exam room for 30 or more minutes after having the pupil dilation drops placed in their eyes, wondering when (or if) the doc is going to return to the exam room to finish the eye examination. During my appointment, after at least a 30 minute wait, I left the exam room to speak to someone at the front desk about the excessive wait time (who stated that the doc was with another patient), and then returned to the exam room. Magically, the doc re-appeared to the exam room almost instantly. No apology. This was my experience when I went for a routine exam last month. During this experience, I was reminded how much waiting time I encountered during my previous routine eye exam here a few years prior. It causes me to wonder why, when the office does not appear to be in the least bit "busy", a patient who has health care coverage via medical assistance, is subjected to excessive wait time. Certainly other patients would have expressed complaints about excessive wait times if they had encountered them.
