This Target has the worst customer service from top to bottom.
I was in the market for the iPad 9.7-inch (2018 Model). I saw on Amazon that it was $249.99 and since Target price matches I wanted to use my RedCard to save an extra 5%. Last week I had gone to the Target in Carson on Sepulveda and they said they could price match, but I wanted to wait until today since Apple was announcing new iPads. The entry level iPad I wanted didn't get a refresh so I decided it was time to buy.
Unfortunately, Target Carson no longer had it in stock so I went to the nearest Target that did have it, the Gardena store. I get to electronics and this Filipino lady helps me but says they can't price match for Apple products but we can double check at Guest Services. So she walks the item over, but she takes SO LONG walking because she is on her phone texting. Ok, whatever I thought, I just wanted the price match.
So we get to Guest Services and they say the same thing. I pull up the Target Price Match Policy on my phone
(https://corporate.target.com/about/shopping-experience/shop-with-confidence)
and there's nothing that excludes Apple. I explain this, so they start opening up their binders looking for the policy text but can't find it. So they call up their supervisor Arthur who says they can't do it, no proof or anything, just his words. I explain again about Apple not being an exclusion on their WRITTEN policy but he just says it's corporate policy to not price match them or something like that.
I walk away and call Target Customer Service, tell them about the iPad and the price on Amazon and they said there should be no problems with a price match. So they transfer me to a Level 2 Supervisor who also agrees and then she connects me on a 3-way call with the Target Gardena LOD (Leader on Duty) Adam, who says that he'll take care of me.
When I get there Adam again reiterates the "we don't price match Apple" but since I went through all these hoops that he'd take care of me. At this point I'm eye rolling in my head because two people at customer service confirmed that price matching Apple was okay, but whatever, I just wanted to get the iPad and go.
I thought it was gonna be a breeze from there, but man was I wrong. Instead of helping me himself he instructs a trainee on how to do a price match and goes on to assist another customer. She scans the item and says they can't price match because it's on Amazon Prime. They can only price match Amazon...seriously?!
I explain that Amazon Prime is just a membership shipping service, not a separate store (seriously), and that the price is $249.99 on Amazon whether you have Prime or not. Like you could logout, turn off Prime and it's still $249.99! I guess because the Amazon Prime name & symbol shows up on the website they thought it was under Prime. The sick thing is the LOD (Leader of Dummies) Adam agrees with this. Like come on, how could you be so ignorant.
I am furious at this point. I was on the phone for 45 minutes. In store for about 30. And despite Corporate directly calling the store and taking my side, this dude still won't price match, and on top of that he just passes me off to a trainee despite saying he'd "take care of me" multiple times!
At this point there's insurmountable evidence that the store got the policy wrong. Let's say there was a grey area through. Even then customer service dictates taking the customer's side, especially after making promises and corporate calling and verifying what the customer said!
Anyways, I go home, call Target.com, order the iPad and ask for a price match and they do it. No sweat. Sigh.
All this BS because I wanted to take home the iPad and use it the same day. If only I knew that it would be this stressful I would've just bought it online in the first place.
TL;DR/Moral of the story: Never price match Apple products at Target Gardena because they'll just make up some BS on how they can't price match Apple products. Heck, don't even buy any big ticket items here because if it's cheaper on Amazon they won't price match/adjust that either because they think Prime is a separate store when it's really just a shipping service. Save yourself the time and hassle and do it online. read more
