I don't do much shopping at this target, but I have personally seen this store get robbed twice. It makes me think they have a serious issue. The first time was maybe 2 months ago, some guy bolted out the front door with something from the electronics department. He was able to squeeze around the shoplifting detectors at the entrance due to a sizable gap on the side by the Starbucks. The second time was tonight. A big mob of teenagers, probably around 30 or so, walked in all at the same time being very obnoxious. They overwhelmed the staff and ended up stealing various items. Some of the staff were chasing after them, but couldn't catch them. Target really needs to invest in some security personnel checking receipts as people leave. It would prevent criminals from coming to the area and it would help Target's customers feel safer. Other than security, I think it has a great selection for being a convenience store. Obviously you will have to make a trip to the Roosevelt Target for many items, but if you live in the area and need to grab something quick, they do a great job. Just expect the selection of a convenience store, and you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

Beware! If you buy stuff from another target or online they probably won't accept it, even with a receipt. I had bought curtains at the South Canal store, and was in Hyde Park so decided to return them and they rejected me. The supervisor would look me in the eyes when she said, "you'll have to go to another target and return this." read more

I'm about to return an item purchased at target.com to the Hyde Park store and looked up an email I received awhile back from Target Guest Relations when I complained about this store not accepting a return. Hopefully, this message helps anyone else who is told items cannot be returned to the Hyde Park store. "Thank you for contacting Target Guest Relations. Online items can be returned in the store whether the store carries the item or not, the item can still be returned to the store. As long as you have the receipt and item there should be no problems. This target is too small! They don't have the varieties that your average target would have. It was like going into someone's house and they have jelly but no peanut butter or kool aid but no sugar. Then to top it all off it was disturbingly cold in the store. read more

You know who this one-star review is directed to? That super grating, smug voice inside the self-checkout kiosks. I want to beat her mechanical self senseless with my shopping basket every time she tells me to stand tight and wait while an employee comes to verify that I haven't illegally moved around the items I'm trying to scan. Even before scanning items has started, she's already messed things up, asking that I wait while an attendant verifies my bags. There's no way to fix this problem, because no matter what size or heft bags I've brought, she can't seem to feel it on her pathetic, measly, sorry excuse for a scale. Then, while I'm scanning items one by one, each scan is an unnecessarily suspenseful moment as I wait to see if she'll take pity on me and acknowledge each item was scanned. If I move too quickly, and put items into the bag before her pitifully slow system can process the item to display on the screen, she punishes me by making me wait, again, for an attendant to verify my items. If I move too slow, she punishes me as well, by asking an attendant to verify why I haven't yet placed the item into the bag. I can never manage to fit all items in a space-saving manner inside the bags I bring, because any attempt to move around items already placed on the scale results in another penalizing wait-for-the-attendant-to-verify. Just when I'm about to escape her nefarious, artificially unintelligent clutches, she always makes sure to say- smugly- that she hopes my Target run was a pleasure. But you know what, robot lady, no. You ruined the experience for me. Every time. I know that when the robots take over, she'll come and seek her revenge on me just for this review. But it's worth it. The people deserve to know how annoying she is. read more

Super busy for a target, most of the available registers are self check which slows down checkout time, I guess this is the byproduct of the smaller locations. Peak times are open to close now that U of C is back in school. read more

This Target is very small compared to the usual Targets you see in the suburbs or even the one in downtown Chicago. However, my experiences with floor staff has been nothing but pleasant and they are always willing to help me find what I need. They won't have everything you're looking for--mostly the essentials-- but they seem helpful and will let you know right away if something is not in the store. This Target usually has 6 self-check out lanes and 1 or 2 people who can checkout people with alcohol. I have no complaints about this Target since I've have never had a bad experience with anyone here. read more

I love having this Target right in the neighborhood no it's not perfect it's small but the staff here is very friendly and helpful.

This is by far the world's smallest Target. It is pretty much a CVS with a small ladies section. No selection, no help, which is bad since everything seems to be just not in any order. I was so disappointed. Honestly I wish they would have labeled it a Target Express or something to let us know that we should go elsewhere. read more

Slightly disappointing selection that was offered at this target. It really should be labeled a mini target. The staff was overall friendly. I had a huge fight with the parking garage trying to exit. Although they do validate the first hour complementary, the exiting strategy is not user friendly. The wind made it nearly impossible to scan the ticket, and was very not user friendly. read more

Needed to pick up toilet paper. This is a neighborhood target so they do not have variety of items on hand, they try to have at least one of all the other targets. They didn't have the normal size I buy but they did have the same brand so was fine with that. If you need to shop at target this is not the location, this is I ran out of something let me go to the neighborhood target. read more

No customer service. Under staffed with aloof workers. There were no crowds and barely anyone around to provide assistance. I chose not to purchase anything at all due to their poor service. Sadly this neighborhood Target had always been a great disappointment to me. read more

I was excited to move into a building with a Target so close by, until I went there and realized it's basically a "Target express." It's not a full scale store and often doesn't even have basic household items. So very disappointed. read more

I wish I could leave no stars, but that's not an option . Anyway anyone that has been in this Target knows the layout. They have about 4 or 5 cash registers, and about 4 or 5 self checkout lanes. Of course no one is at the registers, so your forced to use the self checkout lane. Every other item I was getting a message saying " REMOVE ITEM FROM BAG", then a "MANAGERS APPROVAL NEEDED" message. When I finally found a human being they had an attitude like I was disturbing their urgency of stocking a shelf. By far a horrible experience!! With so many Big Box store options, leave this Target alone, it's the worst!!! I can order what I need from Amazon at a fraction of the cost and I'll have it the next day for free! Target really needs to check this store! Definitely has lost any future business from me. read more

I like shopping online and decided to ship some items to the closest Target in Hyde Park. A mini Target for sure they only carry the basics. Not a problem since I was picking up items. My order was shipped in two parts. Two trips..okay I thought there is very little parking in Hyde Park luckily they will validate in the attached building lot..but I learned this week that's only with register generated receipts...the trick was because I purchased online there was not a voucher.. Trip 1) someone grabbed one of the many vouchers littering the front of the store for me. Trip 2) was to pick up the balance of my order only to find out it had shipped, but wasn't there yet.. Again, I parked issue with getting a validation for parking..3)Third time is the proverbial charm right? picked up the balance of my order.. I asked for a voucher again the young lady said that's only for purchases.. Well I did purchase I say and as she walks away she says only in store purchases.. Okay maybe it's me, but if my money is going to Target does it matter if its instore or online? My total order was over$100. Target this issue was more hassle than it was worth.. you might want to work on that and a little customer service training for this store couldn't hurt either.. Especially since everyone is competing for online business.. Amazon... Wayfair.. this from a frequent Target instore shopper. read more

I have to wonder how long this Target will last in Hyde Park. The reviews that I am reading show that this store has a limited inventory and parking has to be validated. i guess you have to visit this store a few times to get an idea of what they have and do not have. Then you can decide if you should go here or the store on Roosevelt Rd. I will choose the Roosevelt store as I can run other errands while I am out. read more

So, this is a small neighborhood store that I think is a good addition. My biggest complaint is with the parking structure. It is downright SCARY! Dark, secluded, brick walls with NO glass. I would rather just go to the store on Roosevelt Rd or just pay to park!! read more

Now to improve your selection ...maybe use your mined data to see what your shoppers who live in HP purchase at the other targets (I.e., south loop, Damen, etc). Target, target, target.....I'm happy to have you here in Hyde Park. When I need something quick, it's convenient to pop over. And once you're use to the parking situation, it's not so bad. I am disappointed in some of the limited selections, but you are a smaller version of your sister stores. Customer service does seem a little lacking. Consistency in training of your employees is super important. My biggest complaint (aside from still having to go to the south loop if I want to actually shop) is the horrible execution of the self check out! It's seriously the worst especially when you have only ONE employee in the front who is not only trying to check people out but also tend to the machines that constantly act up. It's frustrating. Please give a little more space for the bagging area. When you make practically EVERYONE self check out, (you don't have a choice when you actually did a little bit of shopping here but to use it unlike other targets where you can not use the self checkout) the space cannot accommodate the purchases. God forbid I purchase toilet paper AND paper towels. It'll never fit!!! And the machine won't let you continue until it recognizes that you actually did place the item in the bagging area.
