This Target was located conveniently close to the MBTA Central Square station. However, even though it was 2 floors, this was one of those smaller Targets, so the selection wasn't quite as extensive. However, I was here only to buy some snacks and a gallon of water, so I was able to easily locate what I needed all on the top floor. It was also very easy to pay for my items using one of the self-checkout kiosks. Prices were pretty standard for the area. read more

This is probably one of the smallest Target stores, and the store seems to be broken at multiple places recently. A large portion of the first floor is walled off, quite some shelves frequently run out of items, and the self checkout machines often stop working. This place is the worst. Complete mess. Every aisle is always blocked by huge carts full of boxed product (no one is ever stocking shelves though). The check out lines are a complete mess and no one ever knows whats going on. Half of the self check outs are always in need of associate service, yet no one is ever around to tend to them. It has never been different. I have been several times at different times, on different days. Same terrible place every time. I'll make do with Walgreens or CVS from now on. read more

My cashier, Shana, rolled her eyes as far back as they would go, have me a look as if I was trying to both rip off the store and ruin her day, walked over to the shelf, realized that it was Target's mistake, then finished checking me out. I've seen photos of better-stocked grocery shelves during the final years of the Soviet Union than what I just witnessed at the Central Square Target. I have a small list of items I needed; none were in stock, my basket was empty throughout, and now I'm en route to Brothers Marketplace. Keep your inventory replenished, and you won't lose customers to your competition. In addition, I glanced at the self-checkouts and saw the coin and cash payment systems were sealed off with masking tape, as they were in March 2020. One of the worst Targets in the country. Staff here are not only indifferent, but hostile. A lady asked an employee nicely if she knows where the restroom is. She replied without looking at her, "No." I asked the same employee, "Are there larger sizes of the shoes?" "No." "Will you be getting more shoes?" "No." "Could you tell me anything about your shoes?" "No." "Do you know..." Then she interrupted and yelled at me, a customer, "Do you know about shoes?" I reported these to the manager, who gave me a cold look and said, "thanks for letting me know," before walking away. read more

This Target is a bit surprising because of it's location and size (in comparison to other locations). It's definitely conveniently located - directly in Central Square - and for that I am grateful to be able to stop in quickly or browse when in the area. For such a small store, they have quite a lot to offer. For the same reason, though, I feel like it could be better staffed.. not in terms of quality of service, rather, it would be helpful to have more people working at any given time. The other thing I've noticed is that the sales prices don't always ring up correctly. It happens for at least one item every time I've purchased something from there. For this reason, I always check-out at the main register, rather than at the self check-out section. (For anyone visiting, be sure to keep pricing in mind regardless.) Whenever this happens, most of the staff are pretty understanding and willing to correct the error immediately, while others can seem unbothered in general. But the latter seems to be how many sales associates function in the Central Square area regardless of the business. Target is by far held to a higher standard with kinder staff members. The store is always clean and easy to navigate. It's a lovely addition to Central Square. read more

This review is in significance of visiting in the middle of this COVID19 pandemic and a serendipitous visit from a couple of days ago. This location is not that big so if you are looking for something very specific, you might be hard-pressed to find it here. The ground level contains the grocery/food and some clothes sections while the downstairs level contains electronics, stationary, toys, and most importantly the first aid section. I can't tell if I arrived at the right time or if it was because MIT/Harvard spirited away almost all of their students, but this is the place to go if you need facemasks or vinyl gloves. Limit of 1 per person for each box of gloves but when you can get it for ~$11 vs. $20 something and potential shipping fees online, you can't complain. Couldn't find isopropyl alcohol so that was a bummer, but this is probably the place to go for some PPEs right now. read more

New residents of Boston: Don't repeat my mistake and make this the first Target you visit after moving. I knew life in a bigger city was going to be an adjustment, but I wasn't quite prepared for what this Target had in store. Microscopically small. Empty shelves. Ransacked aisles. Two (slow) cashiers. "A little of everything" but too little to be even remotely useful; I couldn't even find a container of salt. This Target proved one thing: it's finally time to accept Amazon as the future-- and if you really need something in a pinch, just go to your local convenience store. They'll actually have it and heck, it might even be cheaper. read more

This location is an unmitigated disaster at checkout. It's literal mayhem once any sort of line begins to form. The self-checkout machines regularly break - I don't think I've ever seen them all in working order at one time, somehow. And if there's any sort of human error when inputting information, an alert goes off and one of the cashiers has to run over, decipher what went wrong and fix the issue and then run back to their register to take customers. This frustrating-yet-comical display happens every couple minutes (because human error), which eventually leads to the register line becoming backed up. I noticed that they did recently add one more self-checkout machine, which merely sidesteps the actual issue that nobody is manning the self-checkout area. All this does is add one more machine for your poor cashiers to run over and fix, resulting in even more of the aforementioned mayhem. smh. read more

I went into target to buy new shoes before work because mine got soaked in the rain. They had no women's shoes. What kind of target doesn't have shoes? I ended up buying men's shoes instead. All they had was flip flops for women....in the middle of February, makes total sense. read more

This store carries a little bit of everything. Food, clothing, office supplies, kitchen supplied, home decor, crafting, sports, health/beauty, etc. But it's a small store. And the little bits that it does carry don't cover the gamut provided at other Targets. And it's ugly and the layout is terrible. I guess I was expecting to see items "targeted" to the local needs. Take groceries, for instance, despite the cheaper groceries, it's something that Central Square is not in shortage of (Harvest Coop, HMart, Star Market ... even CVS and Walgreens has food). But perhaps selling food at convenience and price for patrons is good business? We'll see when other stores start to struggle (but I hope not). Now, kitchen. Some of the kitchen stuff isn't totally necessary in our hood because we have local Ace Hardware. Beauty supplies -- head to CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, HMart, Star... Crafting -- come on, Central Square has a couple of the best crafting sites, including Artists and Craftsman, and Blick. What needs are WEAKLY addressed here? Clothing -- of the formal/business category, seasonal (bathing suits); unfortunately, the selection is limited due to space. What we're missing here is infant/toddler gear. Housing decor -- fun pillows, blankets, tapestries, seasonal Sporting -- would love to see more outdoor yard-game options. Lots of green space for that! Kids toys -- yes, it exists here, but this is a HUGE disappointment -- geared for children, not for infants/toddlers (yes, I have one...!); plus, the character toys are primarily advertisement for the latest movies, princesses, and other popular things MISSING COMPLETELY? Items with educational/developmental value: books, tactile toys, motor skills toys, things that kids would actually need all those helmets for...???, imaginative play (kid kitchens, tool boxes, bags) Also, the layout is terrible and handicap accessibility inconvenient... try to get anything on wheels past the main entrance and you have a large column + security to deal with... getting to the mechanical lift (different than an elevator) by going down a tight aisle and squeezing between the door and the end of a shelf is not the easiest... and finally, the checkout area is practically barricaded by an oversized and (unnecessary??) ATM! The stairs themselves, an enormous feature is an architectural proportionality oversight and feels too wide for the space or necessity (put IKEA stairwell in CVS and there you have it.. I've been a Target fan most of my life; it is the true shopping mecca for both suburbanites and urbanites, a retail melting pot if you will. Living in Central Square I have been excited for this opening for months now. Everyday on my way home at work I would stare longingly into the shop windows during construction, dreaming of the day when I could finally have a Target of my very own. Signs around the building have been advertising a March 12th grand opening, so I naturally cleared my schedule for that day. However, on the eve of March 7th, my life changed. As I was walking home with a friend, I stared into the windows as I normally do, but this night was different. What was different, you ask? Well besides the traditional Target employee sea of red and khaki, there were others there, dressed in street clothes! "It must be a private, special event," exclaimed my equally confused friend. We walked towards the entrance, nervous, but hopeful. Once the electric doors opened, we were greeted by an employee who instantly handed us tote bags with 'Cambridge' printed on them, as well as the iconic Target bullseye logo. "I thought you were opening on March 12th??" I asked. "March 12th is the grand opening, but tonight is the soft opening," the employee exclaimed. Well in that moment I realized I know know what it is like to be on cloud 9. I walked around the store, tote in hand, exploring the aisles, basking in my new reality. The store is clean, inviting, and filled with everything you could possibly imagine. In addition, the employees were also very friendly and created a warm, welcoming environment; A+ overall. Disclaimer: My review is based on comparison with other Targets. This is, understandably, a smaller "city" style Target. Central Square desperately needed a big box one stop shop store. I lived off of Amazon when I didn't have a car when I didn't feel like trekking to the mall, so I know residents will appreciate this new Target. However, compared to other Targets, it is truly very limited. They have mini departments with few choices. It's between a CVS and a Target. I would probably continue going to the full sized Target in Somerville, even though it's a hassle transportation wise. When I go to Target, I want options and a place that merges department stores, grocery stores, and CVS, but this location just doesn't cut it. (Also, like others mentioned, the layout is awkward) read more

This review is for Target customer service in general, but related to this store. I tried to order some items for a friend's baby shower online to be shipped to this location for pickup. They were simple items: a onesie, some baby socks, a pack of diapers, and a box of formula. I received an email and text stating that my items had arrived and that I should pick them up within roughly 48 hours. Within that time frame, I received a second email saying that my order had been cancelled because the items were not in stock at this location. I called Target to no avail and ended up just ordering different stuff on Amazon. But I'm still at a loss as to how something was delivered to the store and then magically became unavailable. read more

It's at convenient location but Make sure you double check your prices. The computer scanner will scan your price twice if you're not fast enough or the prices are not accurate. I got charge one bag of potato pop for the price of two. Next day the price went up and I complain to the manager and he say he can't do anything about it that we should complain last night. I go here because it is close to me. That's really the only redeeming quality about this place. You can't buy real food here. The meat which I bought twice was bad and the produce is underwhelming and expensive. This target is only good for a few select frozen foods or snacks. Or if you need toiletries. Just go to a REAL Target. This should be called "Target Jr". No, seriously. There should be a different name from what this is. This is the most un-Targety Target ever. It's a small store with an awkward layout and is horrible for wheelchair accessibility. The elevator to get to the second floor is more like a "lift". They should have more furniture items for students and transients moving to the Harvard/MIT area for school. But there's not much to choose from. read more

This target seems to serve a pretty good purpose. It is a small store that I can walk to and pick up some basic things such as eggs, milk, bananas or toiletries. Some of the most basic grocery items are pretty inexpensive such as Bananas ($0.29) each, eggs (under $1/dozen) or milk ( under $4 per gallon). I'm not sure why they waste valuable floor space with their clothing section. Does anyone go to a city target like this to buy a cheap generic T-shirt? read more

Hate this target it is the WORST. I remember shopping here while on the phone and being followed by an employee at the store. I was fed up after being followed for a whole 5 minutes and just shouted, "Quit following me I'm not stealing, I literally work up the street!" And they quickly turned the corner!!! As if I hadn't seen him. Second time I made a pick up order for some intimate items. Unlike the South Bay Target, they don't put discretionary items in bags so the ratchet bunch of employees just ogled my business the whole time. Also the big black employee woman or man (I'm unsure) was horrible at conversation, even though she/he started it with me! Jesus, fire everybody and get a new team and better ethics. read more

I was very pleased to hear that a Target was moving into Central Square, and eagerly went there this week to check it out. I was hoping that it would focus on providing a range of household goods that are almost absent from Central Square...the kinds of things that I venture over to Target in Watertown to shop for. Unfortunately, there seems to have been little research done or imagination used by Target planners when deciding on merchandise selection, and layout. The location of the checkout out counters is to the right when you walk in; it's a basic tenet of store layout that shoppers almost always turn right when they enter a store. But, here you had to turn left through an odd assortment of clothes to get to the rest of the store. The entry space didn't work as a helpful, inviting transition to the store. It did provide a comfy place for several "shoppers" to hang out and chat--they were there when I arrived and still there when I left. Negotiating my entry & exit (my first and last impressions of the store) felt confusing and difficult. I was dismayed to see that a substantial portion of the first floor was given over to food. There are a couple of decent food stores in Central Square, and another small assortment of basic food stuffs doesn't appeal. But the worst part of the first floor was the large wall dedicated to a extensive selection of Boston-themed (sports teams and colleges) t-shirts, etc. Really? It felt like a tourist destination not a neighborhood store. Downstairs, the selection and quality of household merchandise I was seeking was disappointing. The selection was small (exactly one toaster oven compared to all those t-sihrts!), quality was tacky, and displays were uninviting. Target folks would benefit from a field trip to Tags in Porter Square to get some badly needed inspiration. Overall, this store reminded me of the dorm-room section in a college book store. Merchandise seems aimed at grad students living in off-campus housing, and no one else. Central Square is the most diverse neighborhood in Cambridge, but you'd never know it from this store. read more

This Target no longer seems to sell eggs. Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that the eggs shelf is always empty. When I complained to staff, the response was something like: "we stock the shelves with eggs every morning, and they sell out by 1pm." Who shops for groceries before going to work? Or "this is the 12th complaint we've received this week." So why is this Target not doing something about it? read more

Trucks unload at night and in the wee hours of the morning, leaving their engines idylling the whole time. Their presence has seriously diminished the quality of life of nearby residents by adding to both environmental and noise pollution. read more

The store wasn't the neatest but I could find most of the things I was looking for. It's an easy location to get to by public transportation.
