Shady store, shady manager...... zero stars!!!!! Bought these items that were on a promotion to get a gift card back with purchase, made the purchase, got a gift card. Shopped at a different target closer to home a day or two later and was told that the card was empty, that manager went to check on something and came back n told my wife to go to the original target we got the card at. Went back and they boldly told my wife that she lost the card, manager went in the back to "view the security tape" and told us that she saw the cashier scan the card hand it to us and my wife placed it in our shopping cart... only problem is that we didn't even use or have a shopping cart.... wtf target, accuse my wife of lying and then boldly lie to her, im at a loss of words!!!!! shadiest experience ever, bad business sad thing is this store will still thrive because of the lack of superstore options in the area read more

Was just in there tonight looking at shoes. There were two associates in the shoe section organizing it, when I accidentally bumped into one of them. I immediately apologized and she replied " you can't be reaching over people like that, so rude. People trying to work here." First off I apologized, second this is a retail environment, I myself am a retail manager and if I heard ANY of my employees talking to a customer that way they would be receiving proper coaching. Ruined my errand trip for the night, walked out without buying anything because of the blatant disrespect this employee had. I will make a point to not visit this target from now on. I'm not sure why this Target got so many low reviews! My fiancé and I are actually pretty big fans of this place and visit fairly often. We always find what we need and the store is intuitively organized. The parking lot is also HUGE, so we've never had an issue finding a place to park. I think it's probably the best Target in the DMV area for its convenient parking lot. I've never had a bad experience at this Target and we will continue to visit as long as we're in the area! After going to Wal-Mart a few weeks back, a Yelp friend offered me the friendly reminder that I should always go to "Tar-jay". Taking that sage advice to heart, I made a trip to the Potomac Yards Target to pick up some stuff. Target has ample parking which is always a positive in this town although it does get a bit chaotic on a Saturday afternoon. So, I try to hit the place on a weeknight. The store looks like pretty much every other Target across the country. It's well-lit, relatively clean given the customer traffic, effectively laid out for ease of shopping, and usually has enough check-out lanes open to prevent an overly long wait to get out of the store. Probably, the best thing about this (and many other Targets) is the normal, if not attractive, clientele. Hey, who hasn't noticed the occasional hot soccer mom in full shopping mode at Target? Unlike Wal-Mart, you won't see a website like this one http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ dedicated to its customers! I want to get my shopping done...no muss, no fuss. Busy Busy Busy. Parking is not great, by the time I park I need to pull out my GPS to find Target again. If you went in to grab one or two items, you might as well keep your phone out and play angry birds because your going to be there for a while. Service is usually fine. I think this is the closest Target to DC, and it served its purpose as a one-stop shop to get everything from laundry detergent, an iron, and a bunch of frames. Tons of cashiers for a Saturday morning, it seems like the ones closest to the doors were the least crowded. read more

I'm a fan of this Target for one huge reason: The dude who stands at the checkout area, directing customers to the most empty checkout lane and generally keeping the checkout process flowing quickly even during the busiest times. Also, the cashiers are very friendly. The parking lot is HELL on weekends. I prefer to walk. They don't seem to have the selection of other Targets. But I can walk to this one. So I disagree with other reviewers in one regard: I have experienced great customer service here, especially in the last year. read more

One of my nail polishes was broken and had spilled all over my already purchased items in my bag. I immediately went back to customer service and the woman working behind the counter called for someone to help. The guy replaced all of my items, returning with purple polish all over his fingers. I really appreciated that and I wish I remembered their names. read more

Malaka at Target has the worst customer service ever! I came to pick up a TV and Apple Watch I ordered online, I was told I was at the wrong store, go to the 6601 address, I get there they say, half your order is back at the store you just came from, I go all the way back, I ask about price matching Sams club, they said we don't price match, I show them their website policy, after waiting and waiting they said, oh "we do price match," they adjusted the price, everything is done, I'm about to leave, Malaka rushes back and says "the item is out of stock on Sams website, I need to void adjustment. It's Christmas time, the dang on watch was in-stock on Sams website when I came the first time and they sent me to the other store!!!! I ask her to call Sams, because it was just in stock, she ignored me, just rude. All the back-and-forth/waiting not one apology for the inconvenience, or and acknowledgement. No one knows what they are doing there, and their customer service is awful. I liked this target because it's big, but I will just avoid it going forward. read more

Agreed with other posters, it's often a madhouse, evening, weekend, whenever, and there are never more than a few people checking. More than once I've set my cart aside and walked out without buying anything because of the long wait. That said, they have some great deals -- I go about once a month and check on the clearance things on the ends of the isles. Some really great deals. Pros: 1 - Big parking lot 2 - Sells groceries 3 - Lots of staff Cons: 1- The parking lot is idiotically divided by a huge full-length berm that you either have to lift your shopping cart over, or avoid that half of the parking lot. The cart returns are stuffed in a single row instead of divided throughout the parking lot. 2 - The groceries are Archer Farms which have not produced anything notable (or edible). 3 - The check-out staff are tragically sloooooooowwww. If you have lots of time, it's hilarious to watch these guys ring you up, and bag your items. They have to be playing some long-running joke to see whose arms can move the slowest. It's almost sloth-like, and can not be real. Seriously folks who work at target, get it together. It's a tough job market, and Target seems to be a great place to have employee discounts. If anyone from headquarters were to do a surprise inspection, I can guarantee you would all be on notice. Take that extra step, and give a little more even when there is nothing to gain; it's called customer service. If you are actually in charge of this location, bulldoze a couple of pass-throughs in that stupid berm. Sue the landscape architect who is responsible for that atrocity. P.S. - When you drive out of the parking lot at the back of the building, why is there a No Right Turn sign? Why?!? The exit driveway path curves right, and quickly leads to an access road to Route 1. Who made that parking lot?! read more

January 6, 2008: I've been shopping at Target long before the chain arrived in the East. The Alexandria location is the most convenient to me but it's the worst Target I have shopped at. Almost every time I've gone there over the past 4 years *something* happens that leaves me angry: out of stock on inventory, even simple items (sometimes a product remained out stock for weeks) clueless and unfriendly employees, from floor clerks to customer service desk messy and unorganized This is SOP at this location; these issues are not one-offs. It's just a poorly managed store. I avoid the Potomac Yard Target at all costs. The Skyline store a few miles down 395 is much nicer and it has an expanded grocery department. I have communicated my dissatisfaction with this store to Target HQ long ago but it apparently has fallen on deaf ears as nothing has changed as of the last time I foolishly gave it another shot. Let's hope the new DC location on 14th Street will be better than Alex when it opens later this year. *Update: April 27, 2008 In the interest of fairness (and convenience, because I was driving by) I decided to give this joint another shot. Silly me. I got a preview of my visit as I cruised the lot hunting for a parking spot, being careful to dodge the ill-placed shopping cart corrals. These things are STILL centered improperly - instead of being placed evenly with the parking spaces, the railings jut out into the traffic lanes. No one notices this after years and corrects it? Don't say I didn't warn you. Having successfully dodged the obstacle course, I bravely entered the store. Wonderful! No hand baskets to be had in the empty stand (but a fresh supply of carts had just been pushed in). As I made my way deeper into Target #1076 Hell, I recognized my "nemessyisis"...messy and disorganized (and the people - customers and employees alike - SCARY!). Merchandise on the floor, instead of hanging on or on shelves in the aisle. Nice. How about that lovely spill in the shampoo aisle waiting for someone to clean it up! Maybe someone can spill some conditioner too so the floor doesn't tangle. This sorry excuse for a Target didn't have what I came in for so I did something rare in a Target. I like this Target because of its location. It's in the Potomac Yards shopping center and so it's near other stores (Best Buy, TJ Maxx, etc) and a movie theater. I've always had a good experience here. It's never too crowded except on weekends (but that's anywhere you go). There is plenty of parking but sometimes that means having to park a little farther from the entrance on the weekend. All in all, not a bad Target. Good location too. Get there early if you go on the weekend! read more

I live in DC and I can get to this Target in about 15 minutes - I love that. I also love that they are generally well-stocked and this store has been my go-to for over 5 years. What don't I love? They keep moving things around (please stop that!), long lines (especially over the last year), and a new one from yesterday evening as I was leaving the store... mice inside the vestibule. This is mainly for the electronics department. First, we went and bought a tv last night, only to get it home and the screen was completely cracked. We took it back tonight, and decided to see about getting another one that didn't have the damage. My husband waited around while 3 guys were basically just hanging out and chatting and not paying attention to customers. 10 minutes later my husband asked what was going on, if they had found the tv in the back. The response he got? "My bad dog, there's one back there but we can't find it." Seriously?? Were they not going to let me husband know? Awful customer service. This Target sticks out like a sore thumb in the Potomac Yards mall. Most of the stores in the mall are nice and well-kept. The nicer stores and the convenient location make up for the huge, heavily trafficked parking lot. But this Target is dark, shabby, and poorly stocked as these stores go. While numerous employees seem to be walking around, no one offers to help (again in contrast with other Targets), and employees are not always helpful when approached. I would think they would want to upgrade the experience at this store. It has the opportunity to anchor a huge mall In a growing area. Someone said this store is similar to a Walmart. I don't have much experience with them, But perhaps I will date myself by saying it seems like a huge five and dime. read more

Your typical Target Store... this one is conveniently located with plenty of parking. The store is usually well stocked, clean and tidy. The grocery selection is very good and they seem to do a good job in maintaining the shelves/inventory. The produce is usually fresh. The one issue is that the cashier staff are not the friendliest, they could use a lesson in that regard, it would make for a much more pleasant experience. read more

One of the worst Target staffs around. There are never carts in the front of the store - they must be all out in the parking lot. Therefore, I only buy what I can hold in my hands. If others do this, this Target is losing some serious revenue. There is never an employee around to ask a question. If they do walk by, they rush by without making eye contact to any customer. Checkout is painful and slow. I actually watched my cashier start reading the back cover of a book that the person in front of me was buying...while he was ringing her up! I mean, it's a Target in general so that makes it nice. However, it is the most crowded place I think I've ever been in. Parking is hard to find - you'll always be in the back of the 5th row you drive through. EVERY aisle in the store is crowded with carts going in all directions. There are a lot of kids around which yell and scream too. I think they practically could build another Target at the other end of this shopping center and it would make this a way better Target. read more

I know it sounds stupid but sometimes my girlfriend and I just go to target to just walk around and enjoy each other's company. I love the guy section of all the Kool Star Wars shirts and all the comic book shirts. I spent over $160 on nerd guns the other day. I've had it with this particular store. I received my email saying my items were ready for.pickup. I'm currently at their customer service desk 30+ minutes after arriving. I was told my items wouldn't be ready for another 30 minutes and that I should "just go shop for a while". Target. Fail. Done. read more

This Target is terrible. The poor service and crowded store are not worth the traffic on Route 1 or the terrible parking lot. Go down to the Bailey's Crossroads location or Springfield Mall. They are both more convenient and better locations. read more

It's a Target, so as long as you don't have to interact with an employee (besides checkout, which is shaky), you'll probably be fine. Customer service is terrible at this store. I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable shopper; I know Target's policies on everything from coupons to returns. Unfortunately, the employees (including managers) at this particular store don't know the policies and make up their own as they go. It gets resolved with a call to corporate customer service, but what a waste of time. The seasonal clearance selection at this store is probably the best in the area, but I've seen several employees hiding the "better" clearance for themselves, so that blows. Save yourself some sanity and shop at the Richmond Hwy store down the road. read more
