Taqueria Elena looks like any typical Mexican food truck in a hotel parking lot, but the food was outstanding. The prices were incredibly reasonable for great quality. I got a pastor quesadilla and a deshebrada (pulled pork) gordita. Both meats were tender and delicious. My favorite was the pastor because I prefer my meats a little more firm. The gordita tasted amazing and had the perfect amount of tasty refried beans. The quesadilla was cheesy and grilled to a crisp. Overall, the best authentic Mexican food truck I've been to. read more

As a student at UH I used to come here at least once a week. They're tacos are really good and pretty big! My favorite is their regular beef fajita corn tortilla tacos. The tortillas are on the thicker side and that's a good thing. Their tortas are really good too. Their picadillo is mixed with nopalitos and it's pretty tasty if you like nopales. Finally decided to try the tacos here since it's close to work. I ordered two tacos de harina. One was huevo con machacado and the other was huevo con tocino. This is just a stand but the food has a lot of potential and it is just awesome I love the tacos and the family loves the fajitas, I have to stop every time I see it it makes my mouth water the salsa is homemade and off the chain I recommend this to anyone passing by it's like high end restaurant quality at a casual relaxing place without spending your whole pay check ! I like trying all kinds of food from high class restaurants to the simplicity of the streets. On my quest to feed my belly I spotted this place on my trusty Yelp. I am always in the mood for tacos so I parked my car and started ordering. They do not have wide selection of meats but fajitas, chicharron, and al pastor are the main ingredients to any of your selections. I ended up ordering 3 tacos and was tempted by trying a gordita. All of this for a whopping $8.25. I should have stopped at the tacos like any sane girl in the middle of bikini season but who cares these tacos ended up being great. I wouldn't classify these as mexican street tacos but rather mexican homemade tacos. The difference you ask? Well mainly the tortillas. These are homemade tortillas like the type my mom makes at home. They are regular sized and not greasy like the small tortillas street tacos are known for. The gordita was amazing and my favorite one I have tasted so far in Houston. The dough was not as thick as other places which I absolute loved that it wasn't. If you want authentic and great Mexican food I absolutely recommend this place just make sure that you know there are no frills here, just great food. read more

I've tried plenty of taco trucks in Houston and I definitely have this one on my top 3 list. The corn tortillas are made fresh by hand, the meats are very well seasoned, the torta bread is soft and aromatic, the salsas are flavorful and spicy but 1 salsa in particular "the one that comes with everyone's food" is a beautiful tomatillo salsa that has small chunks of onion, cilantro, small chunks of avocado and a hint of lime that pairs wonderfully with anything you order, this salsa is unique and it's not that excruciatingly spicy/bitter salsa that most taco trucks offer. My phone was acting up and couldn't produce any pics but I'll be coming back soon, maybe tomorrow :) I love Taqueria Elena! read more

Warning, this taco truck is cash only! I normally stop and pick up tacos on my way home, and three fill me up. Never ever have these tacos let me down. I can't believe I had to wait 19 years since I moved to Houston to taste tacos this good here: hand-made corn tortillas with juicy meats and a great green sauce, and tons of lime juice of course. The 'tacos de chicharron' were my favorites, and I'll have to make it back some other weekend for the barbacoa ones. The truck looks just like it would back home (which doesn't exactly scream 'sparkling clean and shiny,' if you know what I mean), parked in a small lot by Wallmart and the 45-- but what's cooking inside will make you think you're instead on some sunny road on the way to Acapulco! Bomb! Yelp reviews have yet to misguide me. I ordered a gordita with carne deshebrada which was yummy; the masa was thin but not too thin,the meat was well cooked but lacked a little salt. My sister and my dad ordered the gordita filled with bistec; (I took a bite) now that was AMAZING! Top pick right there! My mom ordered a the one with nopales (cactus) she was pleasantly surprised; she really enjoyed that her food was pipping hot and the fact that the masa was not curiosa.
