Because stick with the Al Pastor tacos and you'll have a 5-star experience. --- --- --- We were on our way to lunch, but my friend drove us past this place and immediately remembered that he'd had great experiences here and that we should just go in really quick and order a couple small tacos. So we did. We ended up ordering 3 things: Carne Asada taco: 3.5-stars. Fine, but the steak definitely tasted a bit on the lower quality end. When I dressed it up with onions and salsa from the bar, things improved. Al Pastor taco: 5-stars. One of the best things I ate in Utah. No notes. A perfect taco. Cake: 1.5-stars. I don't know what these were, but they looked appealing as they sat next to the check-out counter. At the last second, I opted to grab one. I took a couple of bites and immediately regretted it. It tasted like it possibly had been sitting in that case since Christmas. I'd happily come back here again when I'm back in Utah just for that Al Pastor taco, but I'd probably opt to try a couple others too. read more

Been here twice now and it's fantastic! Their al pastor is amazing! Sometimes they put fresh pineapple on it, which makes it even better. The chile verde is amazing and so is the carne asada! The cabeza is alright - it's flavored nicely, but left a film in my mouth that I normally don't get when eating cabeza. Menu-wise, they have a lot of meat options for tacos and they offer tortas and burritos. Occasionally they might have something else, but it's pretty limited. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but they have a lot of seating inside and have a nice salsa bar. The workers are friendly. read more

Tacos lengua (x2) & cabeza (x2): both delicious, both tender. Avocado salsa: LOVED the flavor. There are plenty of other salsas/condiments at the condiment bar, but I only got/love me some avocado salsa. Plenty of seating in low traffic times, but there were quite a few customers at around 3pm on Saturday. I'm guessing it gets pretty crowded during normal meal times. Definite recommend. read more

It's a bit of a divey place - very dim lights and in the corner lot without any other buildings. They speak Spanish but are very kind and prompt. We got our tacos pretty quickly - even though it's a bit of a sketchy location it's not too bad. They have a salsa bar with diff salsas & spice levels - including cilantro, onions and grilled onions. I wanted to love all of it - just wasn't certain that it was fresh and we did notice the meat tasted a bit weird. I'm not knocking them just know when I'm eating quality ingredients and I didn't get that from here. read more

Honestly, I was beyond surprised with the results of these tacos. I was pretty skeptical of the location but I'm glad I came here. These Carne Asada tacos were soooo yummy. At first look of the condiment bar, I could see they were out of their red sauce, i was disappointed thinking I'd have to settle for medium sauce. Let me tell you. When I got home and dumped this "medium" sauce all over my tacos, I was sooo pleasantly surprised that it was actually hotter than medium. I literally fell in love with the sauce. $6.60 for 6 tacos? Swung in here on a whim. I sure am glad we did. I'm not completely sure if the setup, as there is a guy cooking outside and then another inside. The first thing you see is the salsa bar (I'd call it) where there a few different salsas, lime wedges, chopped onions and cilantro too. There is also a creamy guacamole that tasted really really good . The drink selection is extremely limited, so much so that I didn't even get anything. The tacos hit the spot, the Pastor was well prepared, served hot with a sweet pineapple garnish. The Carnita tacos we're super good. Tender with a crispy edge. If you are cruising to or from Ogden this place is worth the stop. Don't let the outside fool ya. The food is good. read more

While in Ogden for some errands, we were looking for something yummy to eat and stumbled on reviews for this place. Based on the previous reviews I was expecting a taco cart or a truck, but we were surprised to see it was a fee standing building. Inside is small but cozy. They only take cash so be prepared. They have all manner of tacos and tortas. They don't make burritos. They had a toppings/salsa bar that was adequate, with all the usuals. I really enjoyed their salsas. We were told on the weekends they do handmade tortillas and also have authentic birria (made goat meat) and menudo. I can't wait until we find ourselves up this way on a weekend. read more

I had a friend in Ogden who would invite me up from SLC and then wouldn't show up; yup, awesome friend. This taco shack saved my life, cuz even if I got stood up I could go here. Good thing it happened on a Friday cuz that's when they pull out the authentic al pastor; you know, with the hunk of pineapple on top just soaking that beautifully seasoned pork with sweet, sweet juice. It's the real deal. But they only do it on the weekend nights if I remember right. Even if you can't experience this, all their other stuff is just perfect. We were looking for great tacos and tried this place one saturday afternoon. The tacos were spot on and the best part... crazy inexpensive. Between the two of us we tried 6 kinds of meat and all of them were full of flavor and tender. The salsa bar was well stocked and the salsas had fantastic flavor and a good amount of heat. Yeah!!! Something authentic and great in Oden!!! The place looks a bit suspect from the outside, but the inside is quite inviting, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. My wife and I ordered ten tacos; they were so good we ordered six more. Chicken, beef, al pastor, carne asada - all fabulous. Unlike pre-fab Mexican places, it takes a little time to get your order, because everything is done on the spot by this nice family operation. These tacos are absolutely amazing! The steak tacos are my faves. They have amazing juicy meat. It is wonderfully seasoned and placed on 2 corn tortillas per taco. The condiments are a nice addition. I personally prefer the mild sauce with a small bit of the medium, cilantro, onions and a squeeze of lime. The hot sauce is a creamy green, almost like an avacado and sour cream mix. Just know, it is really hot, at least for me. They have taco wednesdays where you can get 2 tacos for $1.50. It is CASH ONLY! The inside is fairly small and they aren't worried about making it look fancy. But the tacos, the tacos are amazing. So who cares about the decor. Taco Wednesday, two tacos for $1.50, just the invite I needed to try several different types of taco. I ordered up two each Chile Verde, Carne Asada, Al Pastor and Barbacoa. I tried to time my visit at a time that might not be too busy, I failed, the place was packed. There was one table open, had I known they would take my order at the table I would have taken it, however, I was a newbie so I stepped up to the counter to order. They have a vast array of different tacos and I opted for my gotos as listed above. I paid with cash since it was the only option and went to find a seat. While I was ordering the one table filled up quickly and now there were, even more, people and no open tables. They did have a counter in the back corner where I was able to find a seat, uncomfortable as it was, and wait for my tacos to arrive. My tacos came out quickly, about 5 minutes, quicker than I thought they might as busy as they were. I was happy about the quick delivery because it was a warm day it was warm in the restaurant. They have a generous condiment bar with several salsa options, limes, veggies etc. It was pretty ravaged at this point since it was during/just after the lunch rush. I would have taken a picture but there were too many people and it was not at its best, visually. The tacos... Chile Verde - good but not anything special Al Pastor - OK, I have had better, spicier, saucier with pineapple is my preference Carne Asada - This is my go to taco and I found these disappointing. They lacked tenderness and flavor even lime juice and salsa failed to elevate them to an enjoyable level. They were lean which I appreciated. Barbacoa - I typically don't order these but because of others reviews I thought I would give them a try, I am extremely glad I did, they were the best by far, very flavorful and juicy. I tried a few of the sauces, all that I tried, Red, Green, and Avocado were flavorful and inviting. The avocado was especially good, I typically shy away from this one at taco shops in favor of red and green but I am glad grabbed some today. Stopped by this gem while in town on business. I'm currently from Los Angeles and was looking for a quick bite when I drove by this salacious taco palace. First, it's not appealing from the outside. It looks old, dilapidated and has a corny paint job. The taco king himself was outside on a portable trailer cooking up some goodness. Typically street tacos Tijuana style would not draw me in but I guess I had a hankering for seasoned meats that day or i wanted to gamble with my guts ability to remain in tact. Either way, i went for it and was not disappointed. I entered the establishment and was greeted in Spanish. Yes if you come here bring some cash (cash only) and Espanol with you because you'll need both. I ordered off the menu behind the register and took a seat. The drinks were located in a cooler just next to the seats and adjacent to a salsa bar. I grabbed a Mexican coke (a glass bottle coke with real sugar) and waited....... After about 10 minutes 4 tacos came out. They looked good, they smelled good. I dove in. Wow. Meat was tender tortillas were soft, salsa from the bar was spicy. Perfection. Look, I've had a lot of tacos here in LA from trucks, street vendors, resturants and my grandma but these tacos may be top 5. I'm glad to see the amount of reviews for this hidden gem! We used the free frontrunner last year to go to Ogden and found this while looking for street tacos. We've been back twice on our visit this year again using the free frontrunner. The exterior has character and they have the BEST street tacos ever for a great value! My favorite is the very flavorful barbacoa! They've got limes, onions, cilantro and different hot sauces in a bar that you can pile on at will! El Paraíso is appropriately named. The tacos are paradise. No frills, seriously good, actually Mexican street style tacos. No cheese, no flour tortillas, just pure grilled meat goodness on two small corn tortillas to be pulled high at your own discretion at the toppings bar which includes guacamole, cilantro, limes, diced raw onion, grilled onion, whole pickled jalapeño, whole grilled jalapeño, and three or four different salsas. (The dark red one is smokey and hot and you have to try it!) Ordered the al pastor today and I don't know if this is usual but today he topped the tacos with fat shavings of fresh pineapple and I can't think of anything else that would have set off that smokey saltiness better. It was heaven.... or paradise. Add to all that that you have all this goodness for $1 per taco and I don't know why anyone would eat anywhere else. DC and I paid a grand total of $7.53 (plus tip) for a completely satisfying dinner for two. Actual mexican food that isn't just rice, beans and shredded lettuce! In fact, the tacos I usually get are "street taco" style with essentially just meat. They are cheap so get a fair amount. 4-6. Also the salsa bar has always been very stocked with just the right things. A handful of salsas of varying spice, grilled onion, cilantro, raw onion and limes. The al pastor was super good and the chili verde was good. They have a great salsa bar where I loaded up my tacos with a creamy jalapeno sauce and cilantro.
