My wife is from a Mexican family and I can say that this restaurant is about as authentic as you'll find anywhere in the United States. Very impressive overall. Got the taco dinner plate with barbacoa and two other meats that I'm forgetting now but the barbacoa was the stand out. Like I'm eating at my mother-in-laws. The value was tremendous too. The dinner, two cans of beer and tip was somehow under $30. I'm from Minneapolis and you can't find value like this there. Service was overwhelmed by the number of tables for only 2 servers. But, they still did as good a job as possible keeping up with things. I LOVED the space. Very big and they have a large private party space. The food is usually great, I always get something with soy chorizo and I am so happy they have it. It seems the soy chorizo recipe has changed or the soy chorizo itself has and now I can't even eat it. Please bring back how you used to make your soy chorizo, it was one of the only things I could eat I miss it. read more

Finally tried this place on a Friday night around 6pm. Always saw it highly recommended, very authentic, etc. so expectations were very high. The food was underwhelming. Hardly had flavor. I can't believe I paid $60 for a burrito, 3 tacos, guacamole, and a coke. The fish tacos were laughably small. The pic on the menu was significantly larger portion with double tortillas. The guac was okay, but very limey. Also... no queso dip??? Both our stomachs felt unhappy shortly after eating here but could have been unrelated. Service was just okay. Our lady seemed like she was the only one waitressing but there were at least 4 other people working up front. The ambiance... strange. Tables too close together. TV showing a YouTube playlist with some jiggling butts was a hilarious choice but unexpected. And the tortilla machine... omg. They need to stop next door to Harbor Freight and get some WD40. We came with our newborn son, our server offered us our food in to go boxes so we would be able to leave if necessary. I had the burrito supreme, my wife had the taquitos, and my wife's friend had the chicken quesadilla. All food offered generous portions and great presentation, and it was all delicious. it came in about 15 minutes on a busy friday night, and the restaurant was very accommodating of our situation, giving us a table in a quiet back room. 10/10, we will be back! read more

My spicy carnitas tacos were excellent and homemade tasting. Covered in seasoning and the salsa Verde is a must. I was in town and want to try my favorite cuisine. The staff was friendly. I did have to wait for the cashier to teach her staff something. It was a little awkward as the customer should have come first being there was not many people in this large establishment and no one behind me. The wait was the wait. This was the first time we visited this restaurant. My husband loves menudo and wanted to try it. The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely. We were greeted and seated right away. They provide you chips and salsa. What is great, the waitress kept replenishing our chips. My husband ordered the menudo. It came with a side of the chopped onions, jalapeños, and cilantro. He loved it! He said it had great flavor. I ordered the pozole. It was delicious! It came side radishes and this spice that made the dish even more delicious. We saw others order different items and we look forward to coming back to try out a few different food items! Great food and great service!! read more

I made the mistake of only reviewing the positive reviews before going to this place. Those positive reviews that stated generous portions and excellent service were so misleading and probably not posted by actual customers. When I later reviewed the negative posts, those were more in line and reflective of our experience.The service today was very bad. We are a party of 3 from out of town. I love going to Mexican restaurants and have never had a negative experience until I visited el chaparrito restaurant in Lansing. The food and service was so very poor, that we got up and left that place. It began with a bowl of tortilla chips that were not freshly fried. Then the waitress that confirmed our order, she never came back. We never even seen her again in the place after that. I got a waiters attention and he said hold on and went another way. He never came to our table to see what we needed. I called the phone number several times while seated in that place asking for help. Another waitress came and said they had a huge party to take care of and were short handed. Finally they brought half the order with no silverware or napkins. We got no more tortillas while we were waiting about 45 minutes for the food than the cold ones brought earlier. When the waiter brought half the order, I asked for some hot tortilla chips along with hotter salsa. He also never returned. Even though the plate had beens and rice, they didn't provide silverware or napkins. We decided to leave the half order untouched, keep our money in our pocket, and leave that place. Here's what I learned from that experience. Don't just review the positive reviews because those could be misleading and posted by the staff. Always review the negative reviews because based on this experience were actually closer to the truth. We will never come back to that place. read more

I love this restaurant! I was a frequent diner at their small one-room location in Old Town and the owner, Lulu, knew my name. I recommended it to people often. The restaurant moved to Delta Township around 2022 and expanded both their dining area and their menu. The food is wonderful and the staff are extremely friendly. The waitress who gave me my order was so kind and sweet and gave me extra hot sauce! When I couldn't decide between red or green she gave me both !! The homemade horchata was one of the best I've had. You can absolutely tell it is not powder made. The food is great, I would have given this spot all five stars however, I got door dash and they did not send any salsa at all! Which the breakfast burrito was good but it was dry. Food is the best Mexican food in greater Lansing area hands down. I had Al pastor and it was phenomenal. All the food has authentic flavor unlike most other places around here. Service was solid no mistakes. Ambiance is pretty nice inside, don't let the rustic sign out front in the mini mall scare you away, it doesn't do them justice. However personally as a connoisseur in Mexican cuisine, i knew the place was gonna be gas upon first glance. This was my 3rd trip here and to be honest it's my last. They automatically add gratuity whether the server earned it or not. It's relatively nice inside but food was really expensive for what you get and not that great. $6 for a pineapple water that tasted like tap water with pineapple chunks. There were 4 of us and at least 3 had bills over $25 for taco plates. Lansing just isn't known for good Mexican food unfortunately. read more

This was my second visit to this restaurant. I had been here once before two years ago. As before, the food is solid. Unfortunately, I had forgotten that (as before) the whole place smells like cleaning fluid. This was made worse by the fact that they started mopping the floor right before my food arrived, even though it was well over an hour before closing time. First time there with our group of 5, went there on a Monday around 6 pm. Wasn't very busy but service was a bit slow. I didn't see many servers so maybe that's just how Mondays are. We all got cocktails, margaritas and other things from their drink menu. Took a while to get them, and a couple of them had to be remade because they were missing ingredients. For example my margarita was missing way too sour and didn't taste right at all... when they brought me the new one, it tasted like a margarita is supposed to. The food was really good, everyone enjoyed their meals and the menu is extensive with lots of unique choices. Chips and salsa were good too. My only complaint was the slow service and a few small issues along with way, but they were corrected with no fuss. Prices were a little on the high side, but not so much that we won't be back when we are back in the area. I think if the service was better, paying a little more would be more acceptable. read more

So let me start by saying the food was good, and I'm not one for writing a bad review... The service tonight though was the worst service I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. We were brought chips and salsa before waters after we ordered our food. My kids cleaned out the small salsa container with the e basket of chips only half gone. After 20 min We didn't see our server till our food came... she was busy holding a baby... in the restaurant. When our food came, all of our waters were gone, or about to be gone. We asked for waters and more chips and salsa. She brought salsa, and no chips and no waters. We saw the table next to us who got seated after us, not only get their food 10min before us, but also were cashed out and gone, while we still had empty waters. I finally got up and asked her to cash us out. She never offered us boxes even for the leftovers. And the only 1 glass of water we ordered was empty. With a $70 food order! I'm still pretty upset about it. My review is clearly not the norm here, but seriously. I should mention to that this was at 7pm on Mother's Day and they were at about 10-20% of capicity(not busy) read more
