We had catering ordered, and we picked it up. It was delicious! Chicken and steak fajitas, tray of cheese enchiladas, rice and beans, tons of guacamole, and sour cream. A large amount of pico and salsa, and chips. We had nine people and barely made a dent in it at all. Ordering again. All at a reasonable price. Nanette is always so good to my kids (they ask me daily to get ice cream from there) the chips are always warm and She always goes above and beyond and she's definitely an asset to her team. My brother, sister in law, and I ate here twice in two days. There was a short wait for a seat, but the service and food was top notch. Great guacamole without a lot on unnecessary add ins. The shrimp fajitas were just chocked full of perfectly cooked shrimp! You can get a huge margarita here. (The glass is bigger than your head!) This is not a fancy place. Come as you are. Who can mess up Tacos but this place? The tacos had NO flavor at all and were just ground beef (no seasoning) with a shell and that's about it. The decor is HORRIFIC like being in a Casino where you want to divert your eyes and not look at the walls because it's just bad with a capital B. Other food was ok but this is not a REAL Mexican restaurant but just microwaved food you overpay instead of cooking REAL MEXICAN food at home. HOW can you mess up Tacos? *Sigh* read more

Just had a carry-out during the pandemic. Had one of the two Covid 19 specials and 2 lunch specials. It was all so fresh, tasty and packaged nicely. Delightful and delicious in this difficult time. No food pictures tonight. 4 stars for this place. A group of 8 of us came here. The place is small and clean. The staff is friendly and courteous, however it is obvious when they want you to leave they quit bringing drink refills and stop offering alcohol. No biggie we stayed and had a great time. The menu has many options at not that bad of prices. We ordered beef quesadilla however after we ordered it there was only 1, but the menu clearly stated two. The server said it is two if you separate the halves..HUH... for $6 I expect 2. For this reason I gave it 4 stars . I have not been in here for a bit now. And as always the food was excellent!!!!!! But I will tell you, our waitress "Miss Janet".... yes that is what she told us first thing like we were kindergarteners in school.... she acted like we were a bother to her. We forgot to ask for guacamole, and if looks could kill we would have all been dead. Remember she was waiting on three former waitresses.... and it is not like we had asked for something free.... she was condescending and just plain ole rude. Disclaimer: The three stars is a relative three stars - three stars for Owosso, two stars at best here at home. I went with my mother and sister to El Potrero for lunch this past week, and there isn't really much to say about it. It is your typical American Tex-Mex fare, albeit in appreciably large(r) quantities. I had only a tamal and a flauta, and both were pretty acceptable. Personally, I prefer my tamales to come still wrapped, but that's just splitting hairs. Overall, reasonable service, prices, and food make it an OK destination for Mexican in Owosso. read more

We have been patrons of el potrero since they opened the location in Owosso. Over the last few years we noticed a decline in food and service. Yesterday 3/5/23, we decided to go for lunch since it had been awhile. We were greeted (loose term) by the host who acted like we were a bother. Only 3 tables of patrons at the time. Our server was awesome! Friendly and courteous. We were promptly served our food. My husband ordered shredded chicken enchiladas and I ordered the taco plate. His shredded chicken looked and tasted like it came right out of a can. No seasoning with a metallic taste and barely warm. My taco meat was only half cooked which I discovered half way through the meal. The margarita was good. Later that evening and into the night we both started experiencing stomach problems. Let's just leave it there, more description isn't necessary. As I write this review we are still experiencing food poisoning symptoms, but on the mend. Do yourself a favor!!! Of the few Mexican Restaurants in Owosso, this one is definitely the best. My husband and I both consider ourselves experts on TexMex cuisine, since we both hail from the Southwest. Although the sauces are not up to our standards, we found the salsa to be fresh and tasty. Margaritas were generous and adequate tequila in them. Tacos standard fare and enchiladas subpar due to sauce and seasonings ( or lack thereof). Shrimp dish above average. Need more cumin and Spicy flavors overall but will return read more

02/13/19 Updated review. Apparantly this place has gone downhill. I had my wife bring me home some take out last night the Shrimp in the spicy red sauce. The chips were great, beans were just fine and the sauce was nice and spicy. Then I bit into the shrimp...they tasted funny...after a closer look they were not done in the center! How the hell did this get out the kitchen! If I'd been dressed and it was earlier I'd have taken it back but 9:30 and cold I just ate the chips and beans and tossed the rest. What a difference a few weeks makes. So I docked my previous review three stars. We've ate here for years, since they first opened in fact but this really shook my faith in this restaurant. like the first review, this is a relative review for owosso. taco bell is not mexican food, so el potrero was a pleasant surprise. I had a simple quesadilla and it was delish (how can you screw them up you may ask, but places regularly do!). I enjoy going to El Potrero. The portions are large. The menu has lots of Mexican food options. I had the Polo loco. It comes with rice and beans. The sauce has a nice spicy bite to it but not too overpowering. The chips and salsa are good. Not sure if the salsa is freshly made but it doesn't tasted like it is from a jar. When they first opened I had food from this place many times, it was great, fast service and yummy food! We decided to get food here last week since it had been so long since we'd had it. I was soooo disappointed! First, the lady who answered the phone could barely speak english. She was hispanic and I could barely understand her or make myself understood. They said it would be 15 minutes for our food, which seemed a bit long for tacos ordered around 4 pm, but I thought okay, and waited the right amount of time then drove in to get my food. When I got there, after 20 minutes actually, my food was STILL not ready! In fact, I have the sneaking suspicion that they didn't even begin making my food till i got there. Very annoying! Finally got my food after a ten minute wait. At home I discovered our tacos were barely warm. The beef was bland, hardly any taste at all and the cheese was slimy. So gross! The nacho chips which are usually so good tasted stale and bland and the salsa tasted mainly like pickle not one bit of spice. I didn't even finish my food, I'd rather get Taco Bell! This is my favorite place to get a chimichanga and have a margarita. The staff is always friendly and the serving size is plentiful. The salsa is a bit too hot for my taste but if you ask for mild and then mix the two together it's just about perfect.
