Chips and salsa are absolutely fantastic! And we went on a soft serve margarita night, and those were exceptional! Food was nothing super special to write home about unfortunately. The service is what really sucked unfortunately, waiter was busy which I understand. But he took our orders, got mine wrong (asked for enchiladas and got the saddest looking quesadillas instead) then disappeared for 30 min and had to hunt him down to get water refills, more chips and salsa, and the bill. It was decent enough I'd go back and give them another shot, but was not overly impressed on the first trip. read more

This is a shame to write as we were fans of this venue. My wife is a huge Mexican restaurant fan. Margaritas and melted cheese? Sign her up! For me, it's always a gamble. Acapulco has been a go to for us. Always clean. Beautiful restaurant on the RIGHT, oddly so-so on the left. Like a makeshift holding room for bigger parties and over load. Try to get to the right. A whole different world esthetically. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon right about 5. It wasn't busy. So we thought it was gonna be great. We walk in and waited a few minutes. Then a gal came up and started to walk us in but kept stopping to talk to other employees a couple times on the way. It was a little awkward. Then we were seated. The waiter came quick and we ordered drinks. I bought an ice tea and my wife a margarita. He brought it back and took our order. We had a hard time with it because EVERYTHING was over $15.99. Most a bit higher. And we are talking about Mexican food. Which is a lot of lettuce and maybe cheese and the like. I don't remember it being this expensive. But we thought ok... inflation. Tariffs. It took a while for the nearly vacant venue to bring the meals. My wife was nursing her very small regular margarita. And when it did, it was one of the most plain Jane presentations I have ever seen from Acapulco Grill. Mine was a little cold and my wife's burrito was on the plate with green salsa and nothing else. YIKES. Incredibly garish. No presentation. No garnishments. She was able to eat half of it and boxed the rest. Mine was ok. It just felt like something was going on elsewhere in the restaurant and we were a side project. The bill came it was close to $60. Our meals were $16.99 each and $10 for her baby size regular margarita. My ice tea was 5.99???? Well it was probably 2.99 as it was listed as 2 instead of one. (I found that out after I paid). The credit reader immediately starts the gratuity at 18% as the waiter holds it and watches as you tap. I hate that. Albeit, MOST restaurants start at 20/25%. No matter what your experience was ...you are going to pay a quarter of your servers wage. This was a first for us here. The experience left us feeling jerked around, and cold. And it's a shame. We came here on a Friday night with a party of 8 with no reservation and we were seated immediately. Raul was so incredibly helpful and a wonderful server. All of our food was great and they sang for my friend for her birthday. I would always recommend this place for social events of this nature. I wish I wasn't writing this review because this place has been our go-to for years. the wait staff is always amazing but the food the last couple times wasn't very good, plus it keeps getting worse. the salsa tasted like prego spaghetti sauce, the cheese was different and not the old good kind that made you want to shove handfuls of it into your mouth. it tasted like plain mozzarella. the queso tasted the same. the fajitas were bland, the beef tacos had no flavor either. even the chips and taco salad tortilla bowl had no flavor. the best part of the meal was the water. on-top of that we got crop dusted when we left lol. Best Mexican restaurant in Lansing! It doesn't look like much from the outside especially since it's basically in a strip mall situation, but don't let that fool you. We've been here a few times since we moved to the area, and it never disappoints. You start with a basket of chips and salsa. Then the main courses are so good. My husband loves the spicy foods. I doordashed a fajita quesadilla and asked if it would be possible to get a cup of the birria consome on the side at an extra charge. I would not have been upset if they did not include it, but I think they may have poured it in my quesadilla. When I went to eat it, the quesadilla was so soggy and limp it fell apart and was completely inedible. I ended up scraping the meat and veggies from the quesadilla and eating it by itself. First, this place was packed when we went so it's obvious people around here like it. That said, if you are like us, from Southern California...this isn't it. If you are looking for Mexican close to SoCal style, keep looking. And if you find it, let me know! I had the carne asada plate and what I got was a large piece of steak that wasn't seasoned and very fatty. Was hoping it would have been cut up. Rice and beans were blah. Rice was beige. Needs some tomato sauce/paste/bouillon. Husband had a burrito and it was covered in red sauce and was ok. Sons had the chicken and rice plate and they said the sauce on the chicken was oddly sweet. The salsa that came out with the chips- my son said it was more like marinara. The hot sauce that came out with the food was much better. Customer service was good even with it being so busy. When we arrived, it was steady. We were seated and given a menu that was an interesting read. We were given chips and salsa, and the waiter showed up to take our drink order. Several minutes later, the waiter returned to take our order, and we ordered Enchilada verde and Chili Rellenos with shrimp. I thought that the Chili Rellenos was very good and hot, lacking on the shrimp (only had 5 medium) , the sauce tastes pretty good, and the rice and beans were spot on.The Chicken Verde, golden brown, warm,had very nice taste, beans and rice were good also. The ambiance is a typical (what we are lead to believe) Mexican restaurant with bright colors, oranges,blue's, and reds, which do make the restaurant pop. Fun place for Mexican food. Went on a Friday night and it was busy. Lots of big parties. It was noticeably very loud in there so not a great place for people sensitive to noise. It was hard to hear my dining partner across from me in the booth. However, the food was great, the service was quick, and the server was awesome. Decor is nice as well. My dining partner had the Acapulco Taco Salad, which he really enjoyed but it's definitely not an actual "salad." Just a little shredded lettuce at the bottom. We were shopping at the mall on Sunday and craved Mexican food. We went to Acapulco because it was nearby. It was busy but our waiter was excellent. I had the Acapulco burrito to be safe and it was one of the best I have had over chains. The wife and daughter had shrimp dishes with more than they could eat. First of all when I walked it smelled strong of bleach or some cleaning supply. Which could be good or bad to me it's over coming. I ordered the burrito bowl thinking it would come with tortillas I asked for 4 tortillas when waiter walked by to which he brought 3 The waiter himself was a very nice young man very polite The burrito bowl was good size and I ended up taking a good share home. First time at Alcopocos. We are huge Mexican fans. The chips are warm and very nice with slight spiced salsa. My wife had the choice your own combo asking for carnitas taco, which was a dollar extra. She asked what the server liked for enchiladas and he said he would surprise her! She got shredded beef and liked them. She was not too fond of the rice or beans, because they were spicy but the taco was to her liking. I ordered the pa Burrito, which is a comab intation of several meats. They are finely cut and the onion and peppers we sautés with a great flavor! I absolutely recommend it. The scoop of guacamole is great. Beans were also in the burrito.
