Anytime I do a review I try to take in the experience as a whole. Not just focusing on the food, or if the service was bad. So why did I give The Acapulco Mexican Grill a 3 star? Let me explain. The place is conveniently located downtown Charlotte with plenty of parking. If there's no street side parking out front, there's a big lot out back too. It's a good size restaurant with lots of seating inside, but there's also an outdoor patio if that's your thing. The menu has just about anything you would typically want from a sit down Mexican restaurant, and a sizable drink menu also. The place is relatively clean and the restrooms are usually kept up. I've never had a meal or bad service. Sounds like everything you'd want in a restaurant. But honestly, that's how things are supposed to be. I expect the place to be clean. I expect the staff to be polite. I expect the food be good. These are all standard things. A 3 star review is just that, standard. Anything higher would be above and beyond. I just don't think this place or the food is above and beyond. There's a couple other Mexican restaurants nearby, so I'd figure they'd step their game up a notch. Unfortunately I don't see it. I'll eat here again, because I like it. They are in fact better than the other places. But the other places lessor reviews don't automatically add stars to this one. We were pleasantly surprised to see a new restaurant in Charlotte, especially one that we frequent in the Lansing area. This restaurant has a welcoming ambience and plenty of nice, comfortable seating. My only complaint was that it was very chilly inside. We visited on a perfectly sunny day, so my husband and I were wearing shorts and t-shirts. The A/C was too cold, and the vent blew directly into our booth, so our food didn't stay warm very long. We ate hurriedly to get back into the warm sun. Perhaps we should have asked for outdoor seating, which looked inviting as well. This location is definitely nicer than the Lansing location, but the food was not as good. We had the lunch specials -- Burrito Acapulco and Lunch Fajitas. We will try something different next time as they were just okay. read more

I am not normally a big fan of Mexican food, but my hubby loves it, so I went here with him. I was very pleasantly surprised! The food we had was so delicious! We had chips, salsa (complimentary) and cheese dip. The cheese dip was so good, I was scraping the bottom of the bowl. I got the fajitas and they came out hot and sizzling. I got a lunch portion and it was very big! The beans and rice were fantastic, I normally don't even eat them, and I ate them all! My husband got the chili relleno with shrimp and said it was delicious! Service was great and quick! Cute and comfy restaurant with delicious food. We will definitely be back! read more

The manager was rude, and, the food was only so-so. The manager - who doubled as our "server" (notice the quotes) - never offered refills on coffee. The food tasted like it had dishwashing liquid in it. Ambience? What ambience?? Half of the dining room was torn up. read more

Our visit here was September 5, 2024. We like to try Mexican cuisine restaurants because we are a vegetarian and vegan group and have had great meals at other restaurants. The Acapulco Mexican Grill is not the best choice if you have vegetarian or vegan guests. After trying to find something suitable on the lunch menu, we opted to order from the dinner menu as the server told us that we could substitute chicken or beef, but we couldn't substitute vegetables on the lunch menu. (What?!?) We ordered a burrito that was vegetarian. It was very obvious that the vegetables were a bag of frozen California blend, heated on the grill without much seasoning. It was very disappointing, especially at the height of garden season when it is so easy to get fresh veggies. Our three year-old granddaughter ordered the mac & cheese and french fries from the children's choices. The mac & cheese was the box Kraft type. It was not good. The french fries were cold and she didn't eat any of her meal. We had a party of seven and everyone was served before her. I would consider it better service to serve the children first or at least when the rest of the meals arrive. After our server dropped the check we never saw her again. We will not return. We have tried more than once and nothing special here. We prefer other Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

The plates are not disappointing and these guys absolutely are the nicest people. They even had a sense of humor when I tried my Spanish on them !! We have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant to eat at and have found it! This place is very clean and the service is outstanding. Our drinks and chip basket were never empty. The food was delivered very quickly and was delicious! Amazing queso dip with just the right consistency, grilled chicken quesadillas were perfect, and the grande burrito was the best my husband has ever had. They also have monster size margaritas that are magnificent! This will definitely be our regular spot. read more

I have heard great things. I ordered and ended up having plastic in my food. They did take my meal off the bill and offer to make me a new one which I denied. Once you have plastic in it you don't want to eat. ‍ They were very apologetic though. My sister and mom both enjoyed their food. My sister got Birra and loved it. Oh my God!!!! I don't know where to start. My wife drags me to Mexican Restaurants a lot. Most of them all taste the same. This place does not. This place stands out on its own. The food is delicious. If you like Enchiladas or Burritos, get the Acapulco Burrito. You will not be disappointed. The Mahi Mahi Tacos are delicious as well. The servers, usually male servers in Mexican Restaurants are just going to bring you your food and you'll never see them again. These guys were right on point. I was even in the back of the restaurant and I had two different servers checking on me and my family. These guys are nice as ever and are right in the job. If you've never been here, you have to try it. Yummy. Better food than the other Mexican Restaurants. You'll thank me, so will your belly. Maybe not your bathroom. Lol. read more

I was visiting family back home and my father recommended coming here. He got the fajita burrito that came with a cheese sauce that was to die for. I got the carnitas plate and it was cooked to perfection and had a nice flavor. The meat wasn't overly fatty either. It is great to see a nice restaurant come into Charlotte. It's been for a while. The food here is on par with the Frandor location. They have Corona Premier which most Mexican restaurants do not. Service is generally good, but I had to ask for a water refill. Otherwise it was just fine for a late lunch, and I would return if in the area. read more

First time there. My meal was very good. My wife's meal, not so much. It was a taco salad that was just mush. Not good. Went there because someone had said they had good margarita's. The Margarita's were not that good. They are made in a machine. (you know, like a slurpee). Not a good mix and very little alcohol in them. We rarely have been spending money to eat out lately. Although today, we decided to splurge and order take out from here for the first time. $49 later we expected to have some delicious food that everyone in town raved about. First thing we tried was the guacamole. HOLY HELL! I love spicy food, but this was so spicy it felt like the depths of hell going down my throat. Next we opened the Steak Mexicano. Which is suppose to be Ribeye steak and vegetables. That was the cheapest, worst cut of meat and should never have had the title "ribeye". The worst part of that meal, was the vegetables looked and tasted like they were nuked in a microwave. There is no way they had saw a flat top or skillet in their poor sad existence. We thought, that it surely couldn't get worse. We spoke too soon. When we opened up the Filete De Ajo. The same poor vegetables sat next to the shrimp & RAW fish, all topped with almost raw minced garlic. I won't even tell you how disappointed we were with what you like to call "street corn". We won't EVER be giving our hard earned money to this establishment again. We will save half the money, and receive 100% better food down the street at Don Tequilas. At this point the amount of times our orders have not been correct, I cannot give it more than 3 starts. The last time it was wrong, they acted like it was no big deal even though I went all the way home then had to come back. When you order something and say no meat and there is a ton of meat on it and they reply with "if you don't want meat on it what do you want on it?" like it was odd that someone ordered food with no meat and there are no vegetarians in the world. I guess anytime I come here I will have to anticipate not getting my order right as the baseline of their service. read more
