Great ambiance. But the service was terrible. I had made reservations for 12 and they were like "we didn't receive anything" and then I showed my confirmation. But they're yet to make our table. We asked them several times and eventually they did. Our server was also very rude and wasn't even trying to serve us properly, multiple times we asked for water and bowls for appetizers. It took a long time to get those to our table. there was an older lady who was kind enough to help us out. She was very polite and friendly. I would say food was ok. This place was recommended by a co-worker who also lives in the area. And honestly, at first I kind of ignored the recommendation for awhile because one, we have quite a few taco places in the area and two, I didn't really trust the source. Glad to say I was wrong on all fronts. This was such a nice surprise. I feel like taco places are usually either in little grocery stores/trucks/gas stations, or extremely up-scale, boogie, pretentious restaurants where it's $7 a taco. I'm glad to report that this has the perfect feel for a taco restaurant. Classy, clean, high-quality restaurant feel, without crossing the line of being pretentious. And to anyone who knows me well, knows I'm a huge sucker for sauces and spice so when I saw the trio of sauces coming towards the table after we sat down, I was a happy camper. Taqueria Catrina's is a really sweet neighborhood spot with genuinely friendly people. Everyone we interacted with was kind and welcoming, and the whole place has a relaxed, comfortable vibe. This place was divine! From the Dia de Los Muertos decor to the friendliness of the staff to the cooking show on the wall to the amazing horchata and food, I highly recommend this place! We noticed a taco spot nearby our church one day and decided to give it a try. The restaurant is small with limited seating, but the vibe is clean and modern, definitely not your typical taco small shop. What really stood out was the customer service. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating, which made the experience pleasant from the start. Food: Bistek Tacos (5/10): These tasted like steak tacos I could easily make at home - my wife even agreed too. The steak portions were generous, but the large cuts made it harder to get that seared, charred flavor I was hoping for. Chopping the meat finer would have gone a long way. Adobada Piña Asada (4/10): I love a good pastor taco, but this missed the mark. It lacked seasoning and sear, and the two oversized pineapple chunks felt out of place. Instead of blending into every bite, the pineapple was gone in just a couple bites, leaving the taco unbalanced. Now I know this is a hot topic for some people, as they do not like pineapples on their pastor tacos but thats the traditional way of doing it. But this is just not the right way for me. Molcajete Taquero (6/10): A short rib taco that had more flavor than the others and was probably my favorite if I had to pick out of the 3. But the execution wasn't practical, it was basically an entire short rib inside a tortilla. Hard to eat, and it would've worked much better if the meat had been cut up. Horchata (9/10): The star of the show! Perfectly balanced, smooth, and not overly sweet. I'd come back just for this. Highly recommend for a hot summer day. The salsas.... if you know my reviews, then you know I like a good kick. The salsas here were not it! It was very low-mid and a bit watery to me. This did not help enhance the tacos at all. Overall: 5/10 based on food alone. I get that presentation is a big part of dining these days, but I came in wanting authentic, flavorful tacos and this wasn't it. Prices are also on the higher side ($4-6 per taco), which makes it harder to justify. If you're looking for a semi-nice sit-down taco experience, this could work for you. But if you're craving true street tacos, you'd be better off at a food truck or gas station spot. read more

Really disappointed in this place and the reviewers before. Let's start with service, the waitress we got didn't care to be there, gave no recommendations or explained anything in the menu. Willing to look past this, thought the food would be amazing but....I ordered tacos which given the place and reviews would've been smart. The birria was the only piece of meat that was seasoned. The Al Pastor was flavorless if not for the pineapple. The carne asada meat was bland, not even salted appropriately. We also got the arancherra plate and that was even poorly seasoned than the asada. The torta was poorly put together and the enchiladas were bland. The salsas are nothing, smokey flavor with no taste or spice. Please use salt, some marinades. Food WAS hot in temp for sure and LOOKED good but I was let down in flavor. Cute spot with a decent amount of seating, I came in and was immediately greeted and given a couple menus to look over. I decided on the rib taco, adobo pork taco, an order of chicken flats with a guava Jarritos to drink. While waiting for my food, I was brought a free chicken toastada; I wasn't expecting the chicken to be cold but it was still tasty. All my food looked really good and nicely presented, I was excited to dig in. Adobo pork tacos was really good and packed, I was surprised it was so stuffed. The pineapple in the taco was nicely grilled adding the perfect sweetness and the red and green salsa that accompanied the tacos were mild but added a nice additional flavor. The rib taco which I was most excited about had the flavor but was a little tough, I don't think I'd get that one again. Now, the chicken flautas were the best I've ever had! I'm used to the chicken in flautas being super dry and bland but these were not at all and the crema, cotija cheese and lettuce added the perfect bite. I just wish they had a spicier salsa to go with them. The rice that came with the flautas were not good, it had no flavor and was kinda tough like it wasn't cooked long enough. This is a wonderful mom and pop shop. When you come in, you're warmly welcomed with awesome decorations and lovely staff. The guacamole is fantastic. I thought the flavor was perfect, no salt needed. And the portion is HUGE. Even with two people, there were a lot of leftovers. The owner Juan was really sweet and surprised us with complementary chicken tinga tostado. We ordered steak, shrimp, and adobe pork tacos. The flavor just blows you away but the adobe pork has something extra magical. The warm churros themselves came out extremely quick and were just perfect to eat with ice cream after a hearty meal. I cannot recommend this place enough. We ordered the guacamole and chips, enchiladas with rice and ranchero beans and five al pastor tacos. To drink we got the agua de pepino and agua de jamaica. This is a FAMILY OWNED SMALL BUSINESS! The guacamole and chips were really good, they don't salt the guac a lot because every table has their own salt shaker (with really good salt). The chips were thin and perfectly crispy. The enchiladas were DELICIOUS! They shred the chicken and mix it with what I'm assuming is cilantro but I could be wrong, it just wasn't plain chicken which I appreciated. The green sauce was so good too. The rice wasn't dry and had a good flavor, and the ranchero beans were so GOOD!! Highly recommend this meal! Unfortunately the al pastor taco meat was pretty dry and didn't have much flavor, so I'd pass on this. The tortillas are hand made but I didn't taste anything special. I only had one of these tacos and had to force myself to finish it because of how dry it was even with lime. Pass The agua de pepino (cucumber) and agua de jamaica were so GOOD I cannot recommend the jamaica enough. They use real juice from the fruit here and it was so refreshing and tasty. I've been on a mission to try every kind of taco in the area so when I heard about Taqueria Catrina's, I bookmarked it right away. On a nice Saturday afternoon we took a drive down to Carrollton to check it out. We were starving! We kicked things off with aqua de pepino, a super refreshing cucumber juice that you HAVE to try! Then came the guac- it was so fresh and a massive portion. It was served in this cool Mexican clay bowl that made it look even better, and trust me, there was way more guac in there than it seemed at first. For tacos, we went all in - costillas, chorizo, mushroom, shrimp, and cabeza. They were all solid, but the chorizo one wasn't really my thing. We also got the chicken enchiladas Verdes, which were also good. They came with rice and a side of Charro beans that were so Smokey and delicious. The beans were my favorite thing next to the guac. I could eat a whole bowl of those. The servers were super friendly and took care of everything, even packing up our leftovers. Later that night, we finished off the rest of the guac and chips.
